Fire_rescue_18 0 #1 Posted July 26, 2009 My 310-8 has started surging periodically. I replaced the fuel line thinking that maybe the fuel line was sucking shut. replaced fuel filter and put a nw H10C Champion plug in it. It still surges periodically. I sprayed ether around the carb with it running and it rev's when sprayed around the throttle shaft. It is a little bit wobbly. I Guess my question is how wobbly is too wobbly for a throttle shaft?? and should I just replace the carb or bush the housing??
Fire_rescue_18 0 #2 Posted July 26, 2009 Could the surging be another problem???
Duvall 0 #3 Posted July 26, 2009 Any bit of wobbling from the throttle shaft can cause an air leak and could make the engine surge. That would be the first place I would start.
Fire_rescue_18 0 #4 Posted July 26, 2009 I fixed the problem with an inine electric fuel pump. I put a see through filter inlin and could see thatit was running out offuelmaking it bog down. I ordered some throttle shaft bushings and will do that next.
Fire_rescue_18 0 #5 Posted July 26, 2009 I guess I need to learn how to type and or proof-read!! :thumbs2:
Duvall 0 #6 Posted July 27, 2009 Be careful with an electric fuel pump. The needle and seat in the carb are not good for much more than 5 or 6 psi If you start getting a flooding problem you will know why.
Fire_rescue_18 0 #7 Posted August 2, 2009 It is a 4-6 psi pump for small engines but thanks for the advice just incase I had not known or maybe someone else would have used a higher volume pump. What I don't like is that it is a magneto engine so I had to put it on a toggle switch rather than the coil. I was unable to find a wire that was hot when only the key was on.
