John2189 535 #1 Posted April 1, 2023 Ok the original ignition was bad so I did the Ford rear brake sensor , gm ignition module and 12 volt coil from a youtube video. It runs great until you get to over 1/2 throttle then it starts back firing really bad. I just read another post about an engine back firing and one of the suggestions was to replace the condenser. Well the video said nothing about a condenser. Is it needed? Where does it go? On the positive side of the coil? Would any condenser work? john 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

If I'm reading this right you don't have points, you've made it in effect an electronic ignition. Since you said it has a 12 volt coil you can try putting a condensor to the negative terminal of the coil & see if it helps. There are two kinds, one for magneto systems & one for coil systems. The condenser is there to quench the arc that is formed at the points when the points first open. I know nothing about the components you have used so can't give a well documented answer. The condenser on a Kohler battery ignition system connects to the negative side of the ignition coil and should be Kohler part # 230722.
