Red Iron 1 #1 Posted July 25, 2009 I'm just curious if anyone has ever replaced the friction disc on the clutch hub. The friction disc is riveted to hub, the rivet heads are almost ready to scratch up the outer half of PTO. Routine maintenance on PTO was done, but I think a little excess grease seeped into the clutch lining made it slip on long/heavy grass. Cleaning the faces with brake cleaner helped alot to regain traction. But those rivets are tooo close to tearing me up. I've worked on many brake systems at work, seen alot of different friction rings used, I'm attempted to find one close to my size, carefully drilling it to match holes and rivet it. I'm aware that these discs are nasty to work with (dust VERY bad to health) or should I forget the whole idea? Would the later versions PTO fit, the ones with half round bar toggle as used on 300 series. I'm adaptable! Otherwise, my PTO is in pretty decent shape for it's age! Have a ST-374 snow blower I'd like to bring back to life.
bitten 134 #2 Posted July 25, 2009 You can purchase and replace the disk and the rivits. Not that hard to do.
