tallen4392 71 #1 Posted March 13, 2023 Should a 312-8 have a safety switch to turn off the blades when u get off the machine i just picked this up for my son would like to make it work again if it came with that feature. Thanks
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,389 #2 Posted March 13, 2023 It probably should have a seat switch. The way they work is the seat switch controls the ignition when the pto is on. Operator leaves the seat with the pto on and the motor shuts off. The 312-8 has numerous configurations so a tractor model number and serial number required to get the correct setup.

CCW 1,365 #4 Posted March 13, 2023 My 312-8 had a seat safety switch that was disables by PO. The PTO safety switch still works.

They should work in tandem. The seat switch only matters when the PTO is engaged. In other words you should be able to dismount the tractor with it running, but only if the PTO is disengaged. The PTO switch (some had single switches, some had dual depending on engine ignition type) performs two functions normally- the start circuit will complete only when PTO disengaged, and in tandem with the seat switch to disable ignition while running. tallen4392 71 #6 Posted March 15, 2023 I was looking at it today there is a switch under the seat that does what it should only if u push it and release it there has to be some kind of adjustment so when u get off the seat it works i have to get off and lift the seat a little to make it work

You describe exactly how my 312-8 safety switches work. Looks I misunderstood. I thought the seat safety switch was suppose to operate any time you dismounted the tractor. Handy Don 13,683 #9 Posted March 15, 2023 Did the research on the 520-H seat switch... To run either: - seated or - PTO disengaged and neutral (so if motion is not in neutral and operator leaves the seat, regardless of PTO, it stops the engine)

You might be able to adjust the position of the switch down a little or adjust the springs to lift the seat a little
