WHX??

Got a pic of the one you are trying to replace bro? If it's the one l am thinking should be a dime a dozen. In any case it should just have three terms. Two AC in and one B+ out.

Can you post the model and code numbers off the B&S engine?

Not the original engine.

1988 252-H tractor model 22-13KE01 using Kawasaki FB460V-AS26

1989 252-H tractor model 22-13KE02 using Kawasaki FB460V-BS26

Both of those numbers are on a decal under the left side of the seat and belong to the tractor - model number and serial number.

There has to be numbers on the engine that will identify it so we can look up the parts for it.

What makes you think it is a Briggs & Stratton engine?

@mike avad having  had previous electrical  gremlins , has also made me detail a separate specific , solid grounding lead to that . frequently say , DO NOT COUNT ON ORIGINAL GROUNDS , corrosion , paint and other factors enhance electrical  failures . often use mechanical electrical lugs , from a bolt point as a wire hook up lead . really like a battery cable from , battery ground bolt point to engine corner  , then from there to rectifier  with 10-12 ga , wire , insuring connection , have that simple  addition on my 3 horses , amp gauge snaps to attention and consistent , charging , all lights are solid bright .  just a suggestion , pete
