stevebo-(Moderator) 8,034 #1 Posted July 22, 2009 Guys, A few technical questions for you motor guys. It seems there is a difference in the length of the crank shafts in the Kohler KT17 series II. The one in question is about 1 inch too short however the diameter looks right. Due to this the PTO will on the C175 is not fitting right. The question I have is this. what is the best way to fix this situation? There is a fair amount of money invested in this motor so my friend is not looking to start over if possible. Can we add a center stud in the end of the crank and add a 1 inch extender to the shaft? I would assume that the extender piece will be drilled and tapped and then threadlocked on the stud. Has anyone ever done this or is there any foreseeable drawbacks to do so? I have people I know who can do the machine work so that is not a problem. Thanks- Steve Bo
big mike 13 #2 Posted July 22, 2009 Steve, check out a KT verticle crank. The verts use the closure plate as an oil sump and therefore the crank is longer. I would not run a crank that has been extended but that's just me.
