LarryF 1 #1 Posted December 26, 2022 So I am new to this piece of equipment, purchased it for its snow thrower. Not sure about the controls. I know the PTO controls the snow thrower but not sure what I should engage other than drive in in low . There is a lever next to the PTO with a 0 and 1 , how do I use that , where should that be when blowing snow. Also noticed that the front wheels will plow rather than turn if the wheels are turned all the way driving slow. It it because there isn’t enough weight on the front, didn’t think it would be that because of the blower would add weight. Also I have about a 15 degree incline, chains and wheel weights, it struggles at time to negotiate that incline. I have a gravel driveway and keep the scraper above the gravel approximately 3/4-1” . Thanks for reading.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,510 #2 Posted December 26, 2022 Welcome to Red Square. Can you find the data decal that has the model number and serial number on it? With those we can direct you to the correct manuals.

doc724 925 #4 Posted December 26, 2022 You need more weight in the back. On my 520xi, I had cast iron wheel weights and 6 suitcase weights (the John Deere variety, painted black of course). I would always blow snow in low and nothing would stop it. The Xi series machines also had a speed sensitive steering so that when you turned the wheel, it would bleed off speed to the transmission. It was designed as a safety feature to keep you from rolling the machine at speed in a sharp turn. A PITA, disconnect it. I do not remember any lever next to the PTO switch. However, on my model which was a 2002 year machine, there was a key switch under the seat. After you engaged the PTO, while you were sitting on the seat, you reach between your legs and turned the key (it only went one way). So long as you stayed in the seat, the PTO would not shut off when you backed up. It was handy when you were blowing snow and cutting grass because you did not have to keep pulling the PTO engage button. Finally, the front wheels will do that because a blower loaded with snow sort of goes where it wants. Same thing with a plow once it is loaded with snow. I loved my machine and dry snow would blow 50ft.
Pullstart 67,006 #5 Posted December 27, 2022 As for the front tires plowing instead of steering, some fellers wrap a link of #50 roller chain around each front tire, creating a center rig to grip the ground. Otherwise, more weight at all four corners will be your friend. The Xi series machines are BEASTS! One issue I found is the front axle pivot. It would be a good idea to jack the tractor up by the frame and inspect the axle for tightness. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/92609-xi-series-front-axle-pivot-repair/
