ber-vac snow blower - a small problem found

Recommended Posts

so last week when we got the snow that was like wet clay. I was going along and noticed one side wasn't reaching pavement like it should. I finished up what I needed to then once the weather was a bit better, I pulled the snowblower off and flipped up to find a bit of a problem.

It was only after seeing the rot, that I also noticed a broken weld on the auger. going to cut out the rust/rot and get some shiny new sheet metal in. thinking of extending the cutting edge down about a 1/2".

the cutting edge is worn so but it looks like I can just flip it around.

From the top, it didn't look bad and it never dawned on me over the summer to flip it up and check for rust. a little background: I always kept it off the ground on a pallet. I bought it in 2018 but didn't use it until 2021 when I was finally able to find a reasonably priced and somewhat local 520h for sale.

last week I got more cut out and some new sheet metal cut and fitted. got it mostly welded in today - mother nature decided to stop cooperating by getting windy. just threw some paint on it for the time being to minimize new rust.

got it all welded back together yesterday, put some primer and white paint and planned on getting some red or orange this morning. the weather forecast yesterday, didn't show snow for this area.... they were wrong. so the correct color will wait until spring.

the black stuff is some stuff that's like the black fluid-film. also included a pic of the custom magnetic-mount chute rod holder.
