biltno 32 #1 Posted December 23, 2022 Merry Christmas Everyone I have been following Redsquare for a few months and really like the range of topics and see alot of good people My "herd" right now only consists of a 1989 416-8 I bought new with a plow and 37" mower with grass catcher. I stumbled upon an older single stage snowblower that isnt attachamatic but bolts on easily. He threw in another snowplow that looks to be identical to mine,all for $150.00 Last summer I bought a 1989 520h which I really like. It uses no oil the hydro trans seems ok except I need to do a common adjustment on. The only thing that doesnt work is the vacuum guage and I will see about replacing it after i give it a good going over this winter. After taking somewhat of a good look at it it looks like it has been serviced at a dealer all its 650 hours ,about the same amount on my 416. Members can post pictures pretty easily and I think it's worth the cost. You can post a few pictures without being a member before you exceed the storage limit BTW i stand corrected about being a member. i meant being a supporter. which involves paying a fee for some extra benefits. The vacuum gauge issue is usually one of two things: the tubing that connects to the carb is off/cracked/broken or else the nipple where it attaches to the back of the vacuum switch has broken off. Horse Newbie (not the original poster of this thread, sorry to highjack…) Two ways to fix that I know of to deal with the broken sensor switch nipple: 1. @lynnmor (who has a shop full of amazing machine tools ) made himself a metal plate and new nipple that he sealed onto his existing switch. 2. I did find a source for an equivalent vacuum switches ($$) that I’ll dig up and post -- too busy today. Vacuum -- just a heads up to be aware of the difference. On the 518 and (I think) 520’s, the switch goes to an indicator light. Intent is that if the vacuum reaches too high a level, then the engine is being starved for air and the air filters need changing.
