Locking the differential

Hello.

Is it possible to lock the differential on a 8 speed transmission. or rework one to improve traction.

To the best of my knowledge, the only 8 speed that has any kind of a traction improvement was the units in the Raiders. These were concidered to be a "limited slip". All the others were just an "open" differential. I have been working trying to make a locking diff for these, but I just haven't had the time to really get into it deep.

Just read you reply and was wondering about the "limited slip". I also have a raider 12 and I have never notice it to be a limited slip....when it loses traction on one wheel it will spin until I shift my weight or change direction. So if they all have it,meaning the Raiders, than how do I go about fixin it cause that would be a great advantage since I live in the hills of TN. Thanks

The LSD was in more than just the Raiders, most of the "six speed" tractors had them, and I just pulled apart a 1973 14 Automatic that had one too.

Dont expect a night and day difference though. I wish I could drive a NOS one, my 40 year old ones will still spin just one wheel most of the time.

You can easily lock the 8 pinion differentialby putting all the pinions the same way up instead of alternating them. But I bet the tractor wont turn too good, and will tear up your grass.
