BellaB 7 #1 Posted November 14, 2022 Tractor was running fine. A few days later I had to crank it a lot before it started. When I shut it down it backfired. Next time it cranked a lot but didn’t start, a little smoke out exhaust. Starter fluid got it to start but it was running rough! then it backfired out the carb, air filter caught on fire due to starter fluid, then it died. Just trying to get an idea of what might be wrong. How serious is it? 1
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,267 #2 Posted November 15, 2022 Why won't start? Is it a fuel problem or ignition problem?
Ed Kennell 40,628 #3 Posted November 15, 2022 Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. May be a clogged fuel cap vent. Loosen the cap and try it. May be a failing fuel pump. Remove the fuel line at the carb. Crank the engine and see if you have a good spurting fuel supply.
953 nut 58,153 #4 Posted November 15, 2022 Fuel starvation. Probably has a build-up in the carburetor preventing it from working properly. Stay away from the starter fluid, it is dangerous and can be harmful to your engine. Have you been using gasoline with ethanol in it? That has killed many fuel systems over the years and may the cause of your problem. You should drain the fuel from your tank, replace the fuel hose and filter and rebuild your carburetor to give your fuel system new life. Only use real gas without ethanol in any small engine, this site will show you where it is sold, https://www.pure-gas.org/
