Are you following the procedures in the Onan Service Manual?

Did you test the voltage regulator to see if the correct voltage is being supplied?

Is the coil wired properly?

I have something to try and it is a really cheap part.  I had this happen on. Steiner with the same engine.  Look for a little circuit breaker under the dash.  When that thing went bad it would run a few minutes until the breaker got hot.  Then, it would shut down.  I went through everything you just mentioned.  Put a new circuit breaker on and it never did it again.  It made me sick because the circuit breaker is less than $10 compared to the time and money I had invested.  I hope this helps.  Will
