Drive belt length.

I have a GT1800 that I have swapped an M14 into.  The original drive belt is too long for the Kohler.  I tried a 7473 belt and that was too long.  I'm guessing I need an 81" belt.  Does anyone know for sure?  I'm thinking it should be the same length as a 314H?   I'm trying to avoid multiple trips to TSC with the price of gas.  Yes, I do have the correct hydro pulley on the Kohler.  Thanks.

That means the engine shaft is now in a different location than the original shaft was if you're using the same belt. The belt guard might not fit correctly to allow for proper belt slip when clutching.

Is it possible to reposition that shaft? Like shim it up if it's too low and / or bigger holes in the frame to slide it forward?

Make sure the pulley on the engine is the same diameter as the old one. Also you can buy 3 or 4  different length belts at once, find the belt that works, keep all the other belts and sleeves clean and return them on your next trip out.

Hi Bill D.    Whenever, I need to determine, the length, of an unknown belt, I take an old #14-3 or #12-3 round extension cord, with M & F plugs removed and wrap it around pulleys, whereever the end, meets the other side, of cord, I put a piece, of masking tape and draw a line. Then measure, from the end of the cord, to the line, on masking tape, thats the length, of belt, you need. You can also use a length, of rope, but I like the extension cord, its stiffer, easier to hold and measure acurately.
