IH cub cadet (original cub) Steering knuckles

The steering knuckles are damaged on this machine.

They are similar in design to what wheelhorse did on my B-80 and I imagine many others.

but the shaft size is 7/8” which is fine, but Im having issues finding bearing solutions for typical front wheels with 1 3/8 bore hubs.

The hubs on the rims are jacked too. So I need to replace those. The spindles I can repair. Add filler metal, then grind back to tolerance or close enough anyways.

Wondering if anyone has ever transitioned to trailer type hubs.

Like these: Which I can press in a 7/8 bore bearing5A3B0873-04FF-4833-8F34-F8C8901312E4.png.736d7f16082902383c805183803ae9a8.png

Handy Don

The roller (or the smaller needle) bearings rely on a hardened area for the races--both on the shaft and in the outer bore. Ball bearings come with both races hardened.

Well, got the spindle straightened out good enough for me.

Ordered the 4 bolt hub, and Im gonna give those roller bearings a shot.

found the bearings for 6 bucks each, made for Bobcats.

7/8 id x 1 3/8 OD x 2.5” long

Spindles are 3” long, and I’ll cut a little off the hub to account for that.

Think it should work out well. This machine will mainly be for putting around when its done.

That copper coupling is 7/8 ID.
