Skwerl58 763 #1 Posted October 11, 2022 After a little work and a tremendous amount of help from here I got the 1970 gt14 running. It ran about a minute and something internal broke. I had serviced, rebuilt the carb, changed ignition switch, rewired it and I am sure I missed something I changed out. I was adjusting the carb and it had just smoothed out and then it rattled lightly and nothing but free spinning crank. The governor worked and it had excellent throttle response and was running about 50% when it broke. I will tear into it later since I do have a 1054 to try to get going. I am hoping for a blown head gasket or something like that but want know until I take off the head.
Handy Don 14,049 #2 Posted October 11, 2022 Best of luck, but that doesn't "sound" good.

Tuneup 1,452 #4 Posted October 15, 2022 Maybe a 'light' rattle is a good thing in terms of minimal internal damage. You can remove the head and see if the piston will move without the crank moving making it a variable displacement engine as the youtuber says. Good luck! With a free spinning crank shaft you may as well unbolt the engine block from the oil pan and take a look inside. Hope there is minimal collateral damage besides the connecting rod. Heatingman 971 #7 Posted October 21, 2022 Would think if something major broke it would have been loud.

I had one broke a rod bolt and just came of the crank, no unusual noise, just quit and didn't hurt a thing except my wallet.
