Can’t get Onan P16 in 516 H to turn over

Recommended Posts

I finally received the micro switches for the PTO and installed this week.  I’ve sorted through the “rats”nest of wiring ( most of which was disconnected and in a ball). and believe I have it routed correctly.  The neutral safety switch appears to have been  jumped as does the seat safety switch.  I’m thinking there should be another safety switch at the brake or parking brake but have not spotted any wiring or mount points for a switch?

At any rate I get not action to the starter when turning the key.  I can get the starter to turn if I jump the solenoid.

I confess I know just enough to probably get myself into a bit of trouble!

Anyone have a suggestion as to what I should be looking at?

Thanks for any help!

In the wiring Demystification is a set of drawings for each major circuit with one being the starter. Easy to follow what is necessary for it to work so download that file.

This is the file name to download - p7-127 1988-1989 516-H 520-HC Color.pdf

The safety switches for the parking brake and the motion lever are mounted under the plate,

Up date on 516 H.

Did get it running, very smoothly I might add.  Finally traced the problem to the neutral safety switch which the PO had jumped with plug in connectors.  Connectors appeared to be clean and in good condition but one side was obviously not.  Replaced  the connection temporarily and it fired up as expected.   Now have to source a female connecter to finally wire into the existing neutral safety switch found on the underside of the plate as mentioned.

Thank you all for the help!!
