Red Iron 1 #1 Posted July 14, 2009 This is after I did some work, the headlight is actually for a combine, it was great for mowing at night. Original headlight was broken, took it out (kept it) There was a hole drilled at top of the iron nose ( I presume someone likes hood ornament?) where the big light is. I did not cut that hood for the AUTO sized battery to poke up like you see here, I bought like that, except I redone the battery tray to secure it properly, the volt regulator was installed in the original battery box. It came with turn key start, just like your auto does, separate solenoid system. That is a fishing boat seat, I know color doesn't match, but yet it does pivot up to refuel and very comfortable to sit on! That's my 244-H sitting off to right. Now, here's same tractor again, I did not put that taillight there, the original one was already converted into a cigerette lighter, now there's an adaptor I made to light up that flat bed trailer for night driving on rural country roads, taking kids for rides! Hard to see, in between light switch & key switch, there was an empty hole, so I added a horn button with horn relay set-up, used a Cadallac trumpet horn behind the front grill (can't see it) Notice meters in dash, left was VOLTS and right was AMPS, I didn't put them there, but they did work. I didn't change anything, only improved wiring after one broke off key switch once, using wire ties as needed. I never drilled any holes in this tractor, only made adaptors I can remove later. I did these things as it was my daily worker. I did rebuilt the K241 engine (threw rod!), new piston/rod and reground crank pin. Everything else was cleaned up, new seals & gaskets, re-used bearings. Tranny locked up twice, only needed to polish the groove for a new detent ball & spring, new seals and needle bearings. Tranny showed no rust whatever in there, so I must have been one of the luckier ones?? The hydraulic pump was reconditioned, simply replaced lever return spring to make it work right, new case seal and that's was all to it. I used Citgo AW-46 Hydraulic oil without any problems, no leakage anywhere, even the cylinder's piston did not "seep' by (by-passing oil), but rod showed slight film, but maybe drip once or twice a month-nothing serious to worry about. It surprised the heck out of me, when I had the snow blade attached with a solid lift bar (1/4" x 1" HRS) and would lift front wheels off ground several inches. Yeah, she was a working beast, even pulling 2" thick grape vines out of pig wire fence, well, took some fence with it too. Even if the tractor was slightly butchered, ran strong and proved it. Ooops, you can see I had accident with spray paint, spray can valve stuck open, but it was wrong color anyways, (Tractor Red), only used it as touch up.
