This whole pipe dream started a couple of years ago when I went to visit my sister a few hours away. I figured while I was there I was obliged by my addiction to surf the local CL for errant horses. I found one real local to her place and went to check it out. It was a real sorry excuse for a tractor. Very mistreated and hobbled by someone and the engine horribly disfigured. At the time I was thinking a cheap parts tractor so for a Grant I rescued it. Now the 1055 is not a tractor we see a lot here. In fact the only other guy I know who has one is Dick Schmidt. Very few pictures in the gallery either. Just don't hear much about a big block in a short frame unless it's a custom. So a few months later in keeping an eye on CL another local 1055 popped up. Now I am not particularly real religious (recovering Catholic). More spiritual these days but I says to myself surely this has to be a sign from God. So I gotta go look.... another sadly mistreated and maimed one. Barely recognizable as a 1055. Apparently some misguided PO must have thought the Ponds were wrong and that later C-series parts should be on a 1055. Good grief. Fortunately the motor was mostly original and I knew right away there was a possibilities of getting one tractor out of two. The seller was convinced that this girl was right up ther with Fort Knox in terms of worth but a reminder that his kids needed shoes and a non running tractor is 100 tops I loaded her up for a Franklin. This winter was her time. Not exactly an original, not a custom but certainly not a franken horse. She's really not quite done yet, mostly just details, getting her dialed in and minor things so forgive the seat till Bob E. takes up recovering this style. Runs like a swiss watch tho & plenty of 241 power so the time in the motor was well worth it.

After a day of work I like to sit in the garage put some music on and have a cold one and look at these tractors. I am always amazed how simple these are made, but engineered very well. I have seen many other brands and how they are made but they are not like Wheel Horse. I am not taking away from the other brands but just the engineering or how they where made. Enjoy the site. If you wanted the wheels for that tractor Jim, I don't think they would have worked without using different spindles. Your wheels look like the ones on my 857 and the 604 wheels had a longer spindle. If you need more voltage from my plug wire. Remove it from the plug and hold the terminal to your tongue whilst cranking the engine. Keep cranking until you get the terminal good and wet then reinstall.

Motor work: Bore to 20 over & 10 under rod with shortened dipper. Balanced crank. New valves with ported & polished intake/exhaust. Block reliefs. New main bearings.

Yep, thought about the same thing last year when some spare parts ended up laying by each other. I want to figure out how to use an extra hydro i have here for the drive so i can have hydraulic dump on the tub!

Yes John, the real question is how much snow will your non-custom bike remove? I know, I know, it is a snow plow frame, but I don't think too many of us plan to win a "Theme Adherence" award anyway!

Believe it's snow removal equipment for the feature this year. Not the most exciting thing in the middle of summer. Looks like Dick @953 nut thinks it's customs again too! As your first show you must take it off the truck and get in line for the parade. It's something you should experience at least once and it gives us the opportunity to hear all about that tractor when Wild Bill interviews you.

Well everybody I’m officially a wheel horse owner. The seller agreed on $600. It needs a few things and a good bath and she’ll be doing work in no time. The hood is off of it because he said the fuel pump is bad. It’s gravity fed now so it runs and it sounds great. Runs really smooth and no smoke. The oil was pretty clean too. It came with a spare engine that he said is completely rebuilt and never ran. I might rob the fuel pump off it just to get it going and get another fuel pump to put back on the spare engine. I also noticed the bearing in the mule drive is bad so I’ll have to get one of them. But I’m definitely happy with it. Everything works good and it runs great. It has the original tires and there’s no dry rot. He said his grandfather bought it brand new. It’s always been garage kept. I also noticed it has headlights!

Added a new to me 2006, 78345 42" SD deck to my 416-H. And then I cut the grass.

I know one you’re bringing and it’s it junk!!! Emory has reminded me that he didn’t get to bring his hot rod, so I’ll defintely be bringing it and his work horse this year. Can’t disappoint him two years in a row!

It's not just you.I am a fan of rugged and simple machines.I think the Wheel Horse fits that bill.

Not gonna lie, the gold is gonna have to grow on me.......but you made a real nice tractor outa two!! I so wish I had yours and a lot of others here, energy!!!!!! I move slow!! EDIT......I just now saw the lights on the front, nice!!! Randy

Although I'd flushed the tank when I cleaned out the carb on the C-121, this morning I thought I' recheck the fuel lines. Disconnected the pipe from the pump, putting the end in a clean jug. Turned on the fuel tap and let the petrol drain through. No dirt came out, but a very small amount of water. And I mean small. Little drops at the bottom of the jug. So that's the pipes cleaned out. While I was at it, I decided to check my fuel cans. The 5ltr ones I emptied. No particles in the first one. The second one had some bits in and looked the same as the ones I got out of the carb. I gave that a good clean out till I was satisfied nothing was left in there. My 20ltr which was nearly full, I gave a good shake about, then poured some into the jug. The spout, it's an ex-services can, with a filter on the end of the spout, produced no particles. I checked the spout filter and that was clean. So hopefully any problems with dirt in the fuel should be banished. For sometime any way.

^This^. Standard base setting for all small engine carbs that I am familiar with is turn it in until it stops, then back off 1 1/2 turns. Adjust as needed from there. Going right leans the mix, going left richens it.

Heres another piece that will help you get it adjusted. It's also possible when your boy fiddled with it he just knocked a piece of varnish loose which was bound to happen anyway so go easy on him. A good carb cleaning & replace fuel line/filter is always recommended after sitting in a fence row for ten years. Carburator Reference Manual TP-2377-E.pdf

Putt Putt has been no-start again lately. I filed the points and set the proper gap, but it seems to be sparking too far btdc. Last time I pulled it over I ended up with a handle in my hand with no rope. It also needs a steering pinion gear. Whether or not Putt Putt gets on the load, Frank will be my pride and joy this year along with my girls joining me. They’re a pretty awesome bunch and I’m super fortunate that they enjoy these things (almost) as much as I do. Jada will have Barney Fife and Rylee will have big wide Screamin’ Jimmy. I’m going to try to convince her we can pull the cement wheel weights, but that might not happen. We’ll see!

Jim, looking forward to meeting you. Most of us will have an extra chair or two under our shade tents, and the B.S.ing is non-stop. Looking at the tractors is great, but meeting the people is the best.

A good starting place for the top adjustment screw is 1 1/2 turns out from bottom. Count how many turns in when you bottom it out & record this as a reference. A bad ignition condenser can also cause issues when running faster speeds and under load. A bad condenser will give similar systems that will act like a fuel problem Glad to see that you are bringing it back to life!!

I have to pick up some fuel line today for my pressure washer and I was gonna get a few extra feet so I can change it on the tractor too. Where is the best place to get parts? I see there’s a diaphragm in that little pump. There’s a place about 20 minutes from me that sells non ethanol gas. When I can’t get that I always mix in the ethanol additive from Lucas and always run 93.

Have fun and enjoy the show is the proper etiquette. The first show is like data overload. They'll be so much to take in and meeting lots of friendly people that time passes way to quick, almost like time traveling. It's hard to explain but you'll see what I mean after you leave. Just make sure you get in the group pic too. They usually announce it over the loud speaker when it's time.

Here's a quick idea for the shifter. Had that same exact idea but the build turned into a little 2 seater clown car. Made 2 of those but never did get to the "pickup" build. The chain link to connect the long rod to the shifter will allow swivel and movement for moving it front and back in the neutral slot but it's stiff enough for the lateral movement side to side into the gears. Some creative welding on the ends of both the new rod and the shifter can make a strong connection.

Continuing my war against the Mole Army in my yard, and be cause of a nice heavy rain this morning I decided to flatten out the lawn again this afternoon. This time my C145 got to get some exercise. Of coarse my trusty co pilot Sophi had to come along for a ride. Best yet while I was flying around at glacial speed my wife strolled up along side me & said "this job looks like it requires a mixer". Score!! This prompted me to slow the tractor down & she had to chase me down 2 more times with a refill. Such a good woman I have! .

I would like to bring all of my tractors but I’m going to need help getting them all there. My trailer only holds four tractors and I’m about 400 miles away!!!😂

I have to admit, I was back and forth on putting that on the tractor or the kids' PowerWheels. In 8 years of home ownership I have only once had to start a tractor in cold weather, or at the end of winter, and it didn't go right away, even without them. And at that point the battery was 5 years old already, so I figured that was a good run and just replaced it. I gotta charge that PowerWheels battery a few times a week.

Quicker throttle response while having 2 hands to hold on. Doesn't make any sense to have one for a worker tractor but I had one on a fast hot rod tractor.

Bring a rain coat or other items that will keep you dry. AT some time during the 3 days there will be water falling out of the sky. You have to visit the Mash Pole and Howard.

Why do I get the feeling that I will be at home and lost in the crowd at the same time?

You may not realize it now but someday you will understand that you cannot go around expecting everyone to act or think the way you do. That will only set you up in life for disappointments and aggravation. Some of those that annoy you may simply have different objectives or perspective on things. Be patient and tolerant of others and their different ways or thinking. They may also not have the knowledge on a certain subject that you may have.They may in fact have knowledge or experience in something you do not. Rather than criticize try to respectfully enlighten them if the opportunity arises. It is easy sometimes if we are knowledgeable or experienced on a certain subject to be a bit impetuous and arrogant about it with our opinions and suggestions.I too been guilty of that too many times. Listen to people before you get the urge to speak, for when you are trying to speak you are not listening. I also was your age at one point and still remember some of the same way of thinking. Lucky for me I was always a young man surrounded by old men who showed patience and tolerance while cultivating the God given talents I had. Be mindful of that, for you may not be so lucky.
