Well it's been awhile and the trailer hunt was put on hold most of the summer and fall. A month ago I started back into looking and learning. As much as I liked the aluminum units they all had weak side rail systems. This summer I threw a strap around the end rail on my Big-Tex trailer and with a come-along dragged a C-141 with a loader onto my trailer. No aluminum trailer I looked at could have handled that. The rails would have been destroyed! So I focused on steel trailers again and every trailer I looked at was not up to the standards of the Big -Tex trailers. The big box store trailers are visibly cheaper and the way the gate is locked into place didn't impress me. So I bought a brand new 12 X 6.5 Big-Tex. Yes it's heavier than an aluminum trailer but my HEMI powered Dodge has always pulled it effortlessly. And of course going steel saved me $1000 plus!!

Well, the boy and I headed out early this morning to get the parts. Had to go early since we were celebrating his 3rd bday this afternoon and the boss lady had chores for us before the party. The guy had a great collection. (6) 520s one with a real nice quickway on it, a 417 and 418. I wound up getting the boards, tunnel covers and hood. The hood is off a newer anniversary 520 but it was cleaner than the other one. The parts aren't perfect but not bad and considering what's on it now I very happy

Hello all, Saw a 7kw constant / 12kw surge genset with electric start... runs only on choke. Scored it cheap with a junk parts unit... then was talking to the guy and got 2 Briggs Intek V-Twins with pushrod issues and a Vanguard horizontal . Plus a 42cc Poulan Pro saw with carb issues---with a brand new bar and spare chain. Finally a Husqvarna yard tractor that Ive already got running and sold for enough to clear my entire bill. One of the two V Twin verticals will bring my Craftsman GT back to life... A great day all in all. Tony 20180210_141107.mp4

About the same with me, gassed up the 68 Commando 8, checked the oil and went out and spent a couple of hours pushing the snow back off the 1/4 mile driveway, it's 40 degrees out this morning and rain and warmer temperature are expected this week. So might as well take advantage of some decent weather while I can. The woodchuck said an early Spring. So let's hope he's right. I'm about ready for a good old thawing out

Well I went out this morning and changed the oil and did a little greasing and such on my suburban. Then got some seat time in plowing!

The hydraulic pump on my Raider runs off of the fly wheel instead of the PTO shaft. One thing that was left out on this add on was a guard for the pumps drive belt. I did not like the unprotected belt & pulley sticking out where a some one could easily get injured.. Here's a walk through on how I made the belt guard. After bending a 90 in a piece of sheet metal I took one edge of the metal and worked it with a shrinker/stretcher to make a radios curve forming a U shape. Next I cut out the piece for the face. I don't have a tig welder so this process is rather tedious to do with my mig welder. To keep from warping the sheet metal, welding is done by tacking a few spots. wait till it cools, then tack a few spots, repeat, repeat, etc. The resulting weld is not pretty but nothing warped. I ground the welds down. A light coat of filler and the guard will look like a solid stamped piece. Before any filler work there is still the task of getting it positioned where I want and weld the mount tabs on. The sheet metal screws will be replaced with 1/4 - 20 bolts and I will install weld nuts inside of the fan shroud.

Back in 1973 went cat fishing with the 1SG and company clerk. We set up on a sand bar in the Red River just outside Ft Campbell lawn chairs coolers the works. the drinking err.. fishing was going well until a push boat with a string of barges came upstream. First off their head light blinded us so badly we didn't see the bow wave that enveloped our little sand bar, it washed away much of the beer...err bait. We quit and went home I never fished again...

I finally got around to cleaning the points and double-checking the Gap just under .020. Started with a file that was fundamentally garbage so I switched over to sandpaper. Cleaned off the cover and checked the bottom vent hole and put it back together.

Storage is not a hassle and we don't insure utility trailers so no issue there. I use mine probably 15 times a year and not just for tractor hauling, plus it's nice to have it ready to go...just drop it on the ball and I can be on the road in less than 3 minutes. I do live in Ct. and if your not fast the other Wheel Horse vultures will beat ya to the deals !

When I had to go to Connecticut to pickup my D200 with FEL I knew it wouldn't fit in my GMC Sonoma. Rented one of these picked up in the morning got home and dropped it off that evening. i could do that frequently and for $25/day and not have the hassle of storing, registering, and insuring a trailer that I might use how many times per year???

Finally! This block and parts have been lying around for over 2 years. I had it cut .010 and the valves cut. The crank was balanced w David Kirk's kit and I own his last cheater cam. I had planned to do a hot rod k341. Ordered all the necessary hardware, Bosch coil, pointsaver, electric fuel pump. After a little research I found out how easy it should be to turn it into a Magnum. So here we go. Started assembly last night w a new governor gear. Opted to install the original cam, Kirks will be up for sale, got to the bearing plate and found out I need Magnum seals and shims. So we're in a holding pattern until the seals arrive later this week. Any tips or suggestions gladly accepted. Also so this blocks dipstick was in bottom of the block. I have a cub cadet timing cover dip stick I plan on using.

Just wondering how many of our members enjoy cat-fishing. My best friend (brother from another mother) was a Mississippi river catfish guide in New Boston Illinois back in the 90's. Fishing the river from Muscatine Iowa to Fort Madison Also A top catfish tournament angler. I myself have never been much for cat fishing but an avid Bass angler. Always thought cat fishing was slow and boring. Little did I know that Gary ( Cowboy ) Schrock was more than just a guide on the river. He also traveled the Country doing catfish seminars for Bass Pro Outdoor World and others. I found an interesting article about the THE SCHROCK DRIFT RIG authored by Doug Stange from In-Fisherman So I am asking all avid Red Square Anglers to post here so Gary can prove me wrong on the popularity of catfish. I think most of us prefer Bass to Catfish? How about you ? Bass vs. Catfish

I'm going Monday to pick up the 854. Says it runs fine, he's using it today to spread gravel. $150 for the tractor and $150 for the plow. I tried to get the plow for less but he's holding firm on $300 for both. Sound like a good price?

Took the D out yesterday and cleaned off the 5"+ we got along with some drifts. Stuff was heavier this time with temps in the upper 20's but Big Ugly performed well as usual . Didn't break anything, so that was a plus, lol. Sorry, no pics yet - need to grab a video of thing working one of these days. Sarge

Guess mine is just part of how I've learned to deal with the public with my job. I get along with most anybody. Not many people I don't like. As long as someone is doing right by their kids, they're ok in my book. It's when you hurt the little ones physically, emotionally, or through neglect that I lose my cool. No excuse for that.

Should have started a poll Terry. I vote cats... but nothing better that the tussel of a nice smallie either but then again nothing better that Cajun or blackened catfish. Oddly enough I live on the intersection of some better catfish rivers in our state but never went until my kid got into it. Keeping the snapping turtles off is our problem. Going sturgeon spearing tomorrow so maybe have some pics of a big dinosaur fish for ya.

Wondered if anyone can help me with a Sunstrand pump fitted to a Toro gmt 230, As far as I can see the toro part number is 27-3670. I had a look at the pump today that's been taken out of the tractor before I got it as it was leaking oil, the only numbers I can find on it are 90-1093 lh and 02-ub 19646. I thought I saw someone on here had a test bed made up using an electric motor to turn it but can't find it now. Is there anyway I can test it to find out where the leak is or have I got to refit it back in the tractor, many thanks for looking.

Ok...Thursday/Friday storm dumped right on 5" , plus a little more overnight into Saturday. I did plow it out Friday afternoon, just didn't have time to take any real pics - but here's the results. Winds here do some strange things - even with fairly dry snow - The D and it's blade worked excellent - had to do a lot of back dragging work on the north side of the building from the rough pavement over there - no issues with the locking arms. I do need to install a top flap to keep the snow from going over the top of it - the stuff is getting melted by the engine's hot air coming off the cooling fan and melting, forming thick ice on the trip springs/pivot sector and linkage. Glad I used SS on those parts - at least everything remained working despite being a solid block on the outside. The bushings on the blade center bolt have finally gotten broke in better, had to tighten the bolt down the rest of the way and it's smooth as butter, locks easily in position and releases very easily, like it should. Need to get a video - I can load this blade almost 2/3 full and just roll the stuff off to the side at a decent clip like nothing's there... More predicted for tonight into tomorrow early - expecting another 3"-4" , glad I pushed the banks well back - they are frozen solid now. Sarge

We are lucky in our area here, much like Terry - but the local areas of the Illinois river are still pretty polluted and we avoid it , the DNR doesn't recommend eating the fish so I'm not interested. We do have one really nice resource - the I&M canal system and that slow steady water breeds some huge cats - some State record sized at around 5 feet long and 60lbs. For the few times we do get out anymore, wife and I will keep 3-5lb sized cats - I cut them up and either deep fry or grill them, tasty stuff and I don't think we've ever eaten it out of any food joint - just doesn't make sense to us since it's widely available in our waters. I did one very large cat that was nearly 30lbs, man was thing one muddy, fatty tasting bugger and put me off keeping any of the large ones around here. 3-5lb seem to be the best flavor and the lighter speckled channel cats are the best versus the dark flat heads. Don't get me wrong - bass is fun but I'm out there to relax, sit in the shade with a cold drink and enjoy the outdoors. A lot of buddies are avid fish nuts and own boats n stuff that cost more than most folks' homes - just not my thing. I'm there to catch dinner most times, or at least stock up the freezer on catfish chunks, lol. Sarge

Not many around with those smaller 200 series vertical engine tractors or their snow blowers - I'd suspect you'll just have to stick with the manuals for both the blower and the tractor itself. Maybe get another set of mechanical eyes on the whole setup and that long belt - maybe something isn't quite right or a locked up idler pulley - lot's of things can go wrong . Sarge

I picked up my carbide tipped bit at a local True Value hardware store. You can also use a carbide tip masonry bit. One word or advise, don't be afraid to increase you drill speed. Fast with a lot of pressure will work the best when using a carbide tip bit on hardened steel. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help.

This is not a fair vote...I happen to like both. As far as bass...smallies, large mouth, strippers, yellow base, white bass are all fantastic...usually throw large mouth back anymore, and smallies also. catch and release you know. Cat fish is another story. We get a lot of channel cats up here, and they are excellent. Steaked and deep fried with a cornmeal dredge...filayed and lightly dredged in flour and cooked in butter with a little oil...heaven. Smoked Catfish is to die for BTW.

Make sure to look closely at the back side of those butterfly valve's screws - almost all carburetors the screws have been staked on the back side of the shaft to prevent them getting ingested into the engine if they work loose. If you have a Dremel - get a carbide burr for it and cut the excess part of the screw off before removing them or they can strip the shaft hole threads out. On some that I don't have the correct screws in stock since I worked on Weber carbs for years as well as been a mechanic you can re-stake them once you get the valve properly centered. I usually just put a good center punch in the vise, put the tips of the screws against it and give them a decent rap with a pin punch or opposite with the pin punch in the vise - either way works fine. Carburetors have fuel involved, eventually any sort of thread locker will come loose - it gets dissolved by the fuel in the thing, mostly when you shut off the ignition and stop the engine. If you don't stake those screws you risk ingestion into the engine - I've had to fix that too many times not to do it right, but that's me - up to you on yours. Don't be in a rush to sand/cut/file/grind that carb bore - the butterfly is simply not centered in the bore correctly from the factory - the Chinese one I put on the 16hp temporarily was way off being correct - it's probably a common thing with these and quality issues. Crack the screws loose but do not remove them first , then back off the idle stop screw completely so the butterfly can go fully shut. Poke around it a bit and maybe rotate it slightly to center it in the bore, then tighten/stake the screws correctly. All carburetor throttle valves of this type are oblong shaped - they are not round. The holes in those valves are also oval for a reason - it's to allow proper adjustment to the bore center once it's assembled, they just failed to assemble it properly. Given the price point - not a surprise as I'm sure they are knocking out hundreds an hour in that plant to make any profit. Also, just fyi - those throttle valves are also beveled slightly (sometimes as little as 5*) so they seal to the bore correctly since the valve itself is oval in shape - they only go in that bore one way correctly. Never alter that angle or do any sanding/filing in the bore - you'll lose the ability to control vacuum and engine idle as well as screw with it's ability to use the idle circuit correctly during throttle transition. There's a lot of geometry built into a carburetor - it's not just a hole in a tube with a valve in it so be aware of that . Just some things to know/learn - any questions, just ask . I've been doing this stuff almost 45yrs now - sometimes the cobwebs get knocked loose and the files stored in my skull break loose freely....lol. Not lecturing, just trying to educate - I'm here to pay the forum back for their help with issues I've ran into, such a great place. Sarge
