This is not a total restore. Just painted the sheet metal. Turned out pretty good so far. Thanks to Terry for the decals. Lowell for the headlight bezels. New steering wheel center from Glenn. Got new front tires from ebay. Getting some 24-12x12 mounted today for the read. Last picture is what it looked like when I got it

I was looking for a 16 hp motor for snowblowing this winter. Went to get the motor and asked him if he had the tractor it came off of. He said he did. He was going to scrap it but would throw it it if I wanted it. Looks to be in pretty good shape. I'd radther have one like this than one painted three times lol. I'm going to use it like this for the winter just get everything mechanically right.

I figured since I am going to start to pull I needed a good stone boat. Found a real one locally on CL. I wanted to add metal plate on the bottom and found some free metal shelves. Worked out perfectly,

Still thinking Jeff. Only problem is if I adopt you, I'm afraid we would stay in trouble, both of us being just a little on the mischievous side. Emory did help me block out "my" tractor last night. He had to use both hands to keep the paper on the block and did great!

New to this forum but old hand at WH tractors. I own a 520H and a C160 Automatic. Both get used frequently. The 520 is my primary snow remover. It is equipped with a 2 stage front mount snow blower. The C160 Auto is the garden machine with a rear mounted tiller on that one. I worked for an old established Wheel Horse dealer 30+ years ago. Spent a couple years there and became well versed in everything WH built from 1950s to current tractors of 1987. The biggest seller then was the 312-8 speed with a 42" side discharge deck. Those folks usually came back and bought a front plow, chains and wheel weights.

I have been bugging Charlie for years to sell me this one. I thank him for passing it along. Been doing some slight modifications and changes but the build and look is just cool. Thought I would share some photos with everyone. May name it the "Twin Killer" ... lol (inside joke)

Glenn, If you want snow, put the mower decks on and leave off the chains!

There is no way to tell without measuring the bore if it is not cast into the block on the drive pulley side. And even then a k301 can be a 10hp. K241 thru k321 all have 9 head bolts.

Great find and save. Keep us posted with progress. I've seen a lot of snow blower side extension wings on up side down, but a seat back, now that's a first.

Got the differential back together, painted the tins. Now on to the loader.

Glenn, This is my bad. I actually use these Xtrac on my Raider. I really love them. The ATV tires are really great for gripping. The snowhogs are on my walk behind blower. Getting confused between the two... Anyways here are pictures of the Xtrac mounted if you wanted to see it. They are 4.8-8.

Yeah I know last year I had 3 520H 2stage, tall single, and a plow and a 520xi with a tall single, used the plow 1 time, had a front plow set up for the Kioti in WV, dad never used it, now I'm in the middle of converting a super heavy duty fully hydraulic JD blade to the Kioti, maybe it will snow, anyway @JERSEYHAWG / Glenn, I run TRAC GARD 16x7.50-8 turfs on my 520s and 16x6.50-8 the Cubs, they seem to do way better than the original DICOs IMHO, never tried the tri-ribs or used roller chain, good luck ,Jeff. Maybe these Carlisle tires on Amazon...

What a difference. Looks fantastic! Love the look of the new tires too. what is it about new tread that instantly draws my attention. Does not matter what it is on. Garden Tractor, Vehicle or anything with wheels. Maybe it's just me. LOL

You need to do a slideshow of Emory working on "Your" tractor and have it playing on Christmas Morning when he gets the keys!

Alright... So after a bunch of work today I was able to pull the injectors off one by one and get a test on them. They all seem to be working correctly. But when I got to the last one after having to remove the bottom port that screws into the injector pump, I wasn't getting any pressure but the injector looked to be working as it had a shiny spot where fuel would be coming out. So all three were cleaned. I tested the glow plugs, they were fine. I had to bleed the system a couple of times and by that time the battery was shot. So while charging the battery I did a compression test with my cheapo HF compression tester. Which only goes to 300 psi. 1st cylinder seemed slow to build up to about 370psi according to the distance past the 300 mark that the needle traveled. 2nd (middle) cylinder was a very quick high compression of over 400psi according to the same distance theory. 3rd Cylinder also was low at about 275psi. So now wonder why it was so hard to start. But I don't understand why there wasn't much blow by in the breather tube on the valve cover. Also why it idles perfectly once started... Unless my Cheap HF compression tester was giving me crap readings. The manual states that all three cylinder should at least be within 36psi from one another. So it looks like either the person rebuilding the engine didn't know what they were doing or I was lied to about it being rebuilt. I tend to lean towards the later with the leaks coming from what looks to be the rear oil seal... and oil pan. So looks like it will be put away for the winter (or until I get done with other jobs and bored) and tore into next spring. Hoping that it;s just the rings and hone job along with oil seals and new gaskets.

Working on loader for the 520. I’ve been looking for a long time and have been close on a couple of deals but financially it never worked out. Decided to gradually pull all the pieces together to build my own. My wife got me the P.F. Engineering plans for my birthday and my father-in-law has access to some free steel. I still need to buy some steel but not a lot. My dad had a forty year old Montgomery Ward stick welder that still works really well and I practiced for a few months on scrap and got to the point where my welds look Ok and have decent penetration. The other pieces I’m buying as money allows and I find things on sale. Here are a few early pics of the bucket and the partially complete subframe.

@shallowwatersailor, John had this saw listed in the classifieds and we worked out a deal, and since he was in the neighborhood he brought it along with him yesterday and visited for bit before he had to get back to his being here, so a big thanks to John for delivery and fine quality saw, I have an older Dolmar PS 540 and to date 1 new spark plug and bar and maybe 3 chains since acquiring it in 2007 used, and has never failed to start on the 3rd tug even sitting 6 months +/- , Back to John's 5105 he had kept it stored "dry" since last year or so, I got a can of TruFuel pre-mix filled it up took it a bit to get to the carb without a primer bulb, but after playing a bit over an hour it starts on the first tug every time, sawed a wild cherry stump off flush that was behind the house this saw is plenty for the average firewood cutter, Jeff. That's why we need a herd of Stallions. One for each chore! Plow at the ready, leaves fear the Horse drawn vac. the naked Horse ready for cart or roller duty or parades. One (or two, perhaps a few) in the detail shop where my Grandsons can wo.....wo......work. The work force!

I'm not sure what the engine was from as I found it at a mates barn but it will probable end up in a Wheelhorse.

Is this a Wheel Horse engine? If so, I don't think any Wheel Horse K241 had a long dip stick and tube, just a screw-in type. I don't know if you can see the counter-weights on the crankshaft by taking the camshaft cover off, but if so, the K301 has flat bottoms on the counter-weights and the K241 is round.

They have different sizes. I actually have the 4.8-8 because my Raider 12 originally had the 5.5-8 tires they no longer make. While I agree with Aldon on the Vredsteins they are extremely expensive (2-3x the cost) and that is the one of the reasons I settled on these.

Last year set up a plow machine, tender on battery, staged read to go! Never used it! LOL I am sure that was the extreme. Going to get ready again, next week.

Hey guys, One of the moderators at another forum I visit recently posted some information about a recall of 37 million Kidde fire extinguishers. I had no idea, and thought I'd pass it along. Here's a link to information on the Kidde web site: https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/ The recall includes models dating back to 1973, and it sounds like they're very serious about making this right. I have one older Kidde extinguisher, it's not totally clear whether it's on the list or not, but it's certainly worth a phone call to them to find out.

If I did for some reason I can't find it. It is sure a time that I will never forget.

I think this thread needs a pic! I eventually used stainless one from McMaster since this was supposed to be a stainless themed trailer queen. Couldn't help myself and got it real dirty plowing with no hub issues.

Could be you get on and off on the lower side and put more strain on it, switch them out and they will even out in about four decades.

My project is to sit here and read about the work that you guys with garages are doing and cleaning up leaves.

Had some time this week to open up the differential and fix the leak, put in new seals. Thought I would wet sand the tins, but no had to blast some of them. Put some primer on may paint later this week. Need to get with @Vinylguy and get some decals ordered.
