14 pointsSo I'm down to two Black hoods after my A-60 started it's way to Wisconsin... And, well there's this B-80 pops up on MP for $50. Motor and trans are free, tires all have air, seat is to die for... so, Here's the obligatory pics and what I've done so far: Carb dip - 3 times New battery New battery cables Motor oil change (bad) Trans oil change (really bad) New fuel line and filter Fresh rec gas New air filter Mouse house removal She runs, but still getting some surging... Still on the plate: Dial in the carb / fix surge issue Tires are tired... Grease Tie rods Rewire lights I'm sure something else will pop up... My C-125 is currently set up as a plow mule and back up snow machine. Not sure if this B-80 would be better suited to snow or mule duties... IMG_4279.mov

13 pointsSo the folks working on my house cleaned up most of the debris from the fire. That being said there is alot of small stuff everywhere. Siding, drywall, burnt pieces of lumber, and whatever else you can imagine. Of course this makes mowing a bit of a challenge. So I bought something to drag around and pick it up. Not to mention it will help smooth some of the ruts left by heavy equipment. At least to the point they won't snag the mower deck. I'll report back how it works later this evening.

11 pointsI adjusted the lift links. It sits about 4 inches off the ground now. No not really. It's not "60 inch mower deck heavy", but you know it's there for sure. I'm gonna add another hole in the hitch to slide it forward. It has a radiant for rotating to both sides but it won't get used that way here. I think that will lighten the leveraged load a bit on the lift arm. First test was the gravel driveway. Got rid of the studder bumps on the first pass. So far so good.

8 pointsSplit some wood today and the C-121 was on log splitter hauling duty.

8 pointsSeptember 15, 1962, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' "Sherry" hits the top of the pop music charts. It was the start of a remarkable run of hits. Valli (born Francis Casteluccio) had been hard at work trying to become a star for the better part of a decade before the Four Seasons achieved their breakthrough. They had come together as a group in several stages over the previous four years, changing their name in 1961 from the Four Lovers after failing an audition at a New Jersey bowling alley called The Four Seasons.

5 pointsI learned this afternoon that Paul Benzinger (oldredrider) passed away the week before last. I talked to his wife, who told me he had been battling cancer for quite a while, and gave me the okay to pass the word along to RedSquare. I didn't know Paul well, only really met him once, at the big show in 2021. We talked about the engines he had rebuilt and had for sale at the show, and generally just had a real easy conversation about Wheel Horses and Kohlers, and just life. I know some of you guys knew him much better, and I'm looking forward to hearing some of your stories. Rest in peace, Paul, and thanks for the chat. @nylyon

5 pointsB-80 would make a fine plow mule with that 8" Brinly you have. I wouldn't even think twice about throwing a ten on. Heck maybe even a 12 just for a hold my beer and watch this. Guessing you would run out of traction before power in hard dirt. I had a no name eight that was a house mule and it did just fine.

5 pointsI bought a lift table from Harbor Freight years ago, one of the best tools ever made for us old codgers.

5 pointsOn a rural road, a state trooper pulled a farmer over and said, “Sir, do you realize your wife fell out of the car several miles back?” To which the farmer replied: “Thank God, I thought I had gone deaf!”

4 pointsPicked up some HEAVY Bolens front cast iron weights. They had "BOLENS" cast into the face, so I filled them with some JB Weld. Decided while I was painting them, that my JD rear weights needed to be red too! Now all my iron weights are red. Just one set of plastic fronts are the odd-balls now. Started doing a little prep work for an upcoming parade in our local festival.

4 pointsYes, it is two bolts holding the base. Also two fittings for the inlet and outlet oil lines. Both lines (on our tractor) are metal tubing so you cannot count on much movement. If I were to tackle this, I’d remove the seat, fender, left rear tire, the fuel tank, and any other bits in the way to get easier access. Lastly, remember that the oil in this system circulates in the hydro pump and motor. Any dirt or contaminant entering the system could cause damage so a through cleaning before cracking open the oil line or filter is the wise move and keeping the work area clean is the best practice.

4 pointsHead bolts painted. Engine lifting strap painted. Valve cover assembly removed.

4 pointsCan't hurt... expired in 2017, so either use it for bicycles chain oil or put it on the deck and see what happens...
-
3 pointsWeight is traction. Putt Putt has pulled plenty of 10” and 12” plows, and has a much smaller belt contact patch. Just add weight. And tires. And more weight. @Blasterdad shows up with a B-80 and plows all day.

3 pointsInteresting assist torsion spring return thingy on the Clutch pedal - is there a heavy spring in the OE position too? (or was this a PO backyard "fix") If that's it, there may not be enough force to keep the drivebelt tight enough...

3 pointsWas fortunate enough to be first in line to get this on the weekend. Good shape - light surface rust only - PO said stored inside. Tires all hold air although showing their age. Really good score. Is this a model UW-643 or the 7-2211 The only way to tell is by the decal style. There is no serial number plate. And what's the deal with that decal. I could count on one hand the number of times I've seen it.
-
3 pointsMy suspicion is when you arced the rush of power broke down a sheet metal to sheet metal contact point in the ground path that was somewhat corroded anyway.
-
3 pointsHallelujah. My persistence paid off and all your help she runs again!! Took ground from battery to engine mount and she's alive! From the mower graveyard given new life then I killed her and brought her back to life again haha 😄

3 pointsCylinder head removed. Cylinder head bead blasted. Head bolts as removed. Head bolts bead blasted. Head bolts ready for paint. Head bolt washers as removed. These are not cleaned up as I have new hardened washers to install. Engine with head removed. There is very little carbon buildup or obvious wear.

3 pointsExcellent harmony to follow the voice of the lead singer. Days gone by...

3 pointsIt would never break under an S-10, but it is a good bit wider. The 8.8 can be had in S-10 is width with the same 31-spline components an f-150 got.

3 pointsYou came to the wrong place if you’re asking for advice on that! These guys are a bunch of enablers 🤣🤣🤣

3 pointsChange a couple of pulleys and maybe a belt, and “awaaaaaay we go!” (NOT to the moon) (Only saw the first two frames of the FB post since I’m not a member!)
-
3 pointsWith the modern PT we were told to expect replacement of the deck between 7 and 10 years - or less. Maybe this ATV guy is on to something protecting his deck with a coating of rubber.

2 pointsLike Jim stated the B-80 would do fine with an 8" plow, might even pull a 10". You will be working the engine though. In my opinion, you can feel the difference between a 10hp and a 12hp engine. Beyond a 12hp, I don't seem to be able feel a difference. I also know that a 12hp seems to be better on fuel than a 10hp is. If I was to build another dedicated plow mule it would have at least a 12hp under the hood.
-
2 pointsYes PO POS...! yes it works, yes it's unique, not enough pressure so no it ain't staying... I have a bunch of trampoline springs I've used on previous projects - as @Pullstart knows... it's on the list...

2 pointsIt would be nice to "avoid" the jungle site but stores just don't seem to have what we ( I ) need most of the time. Lowes and Walmart near us packed with stuff but when we need something and check the website it has to be ordered. Even though the last time I bought it it was in stock on the shelf. Doesn't matter what. Shampoo we like? Nope! Furnace filter in the size we have? NADA even though they sold 100 of them last month they aren't a stocked item anymore. What really burnt my noggin was NAPA of all places. I wanted a spare sparkplug for my generator. Asian engine so I wanted NGK. I looked it up. They had Champion's in stock and NGK was a next day item. So Wednesday night I order it on my Prolink account. They get the order when they open and I ASSumed it would be on the afternoon truck. So I go to the store Thursday. " No not here yet." I go Friday. "Not here." I say it shouldn't take 2 days to get a spark plug stocked at the distribution center. They tell me they are getting it from their Remsen NY store and they haven't sent it. So Monday morning I go in to get something else and the plug still isn't there. I go "5 days for a spark plug! Is anybody here smart enough to pick up the phone and call this store and ask when the are they going to send this plug? I went home and later decided I would call my store and if they hadn't called the other store yet, I would call them myself. I grabbed my phone and it rang. My plug was in. They must have heard me! I worked in that store for 10 years and I would have been on the phone and gotten things handled on the first day. I could have gotten that plug on the Jungle next day Prime delivery. I would have paid $3 more but saved that in gas and aggravation!

2 points@Pullstart I would limit the search to Explorers. All Explorers got the 31-spline axles, and the set up and dimensions are going to be really close for an S10. This does however mean you are unlikely to find 3.27 or 3.08 gears. They were used but mostly in F150 or 2wd, 4.0 equipped Rangers. Rangers almost universally got 27 spline axles. I used to have a Ranger 3.27 axle, but I got rid of it years ago.

2 pointsI used ez slide a few years ago, held up to half a dozen mowings then needed redone. Just did not have the time to fool with cleaning and pressure washing decks that often. I tried a lot of different treatments none worked well enough make it through a whole season. POR15 was the winner. A lot depends on your grass/soil and of course how many acres you cut and what deck your are using. I cut with a Kubota and it has a high lift deck and it is pretty violent as compared to a WH rear discharge. You can give it a try but you might have trouble if you decide to paint the deck in the future.
-
2 pointsI used Lubriplate for years to coat and waterproof carbon steel hydro turbine parts. It sticks and holds up well My main use now is to lube and waterproof bolt threads.
-
2 pointsThis has not really answered @CRF857’s question. I’d also like to know the answer to this because I have some of that same stuff that someone gave me. I never really knew what to do with it? Maybe I’ll use it on my decks?
