More shed organizing..what kind of idiot has four spare 8 speeds “in-stock” (plus a 4 speed)

Parked the C-160 and Mighty Mac in the neighbor's new (to him) trailer. Preparing for the Portland, IN tractor show. Holding off on loading the C-120 until I can get it cleaned up a bit. Nice 23' trailer with ramp/doors at each end!

Picked up the tractor today…will be checking the flywheel key as suggested by @Bill D

I have always believed that running each at least once a month cycles the battery which is better for them than just being on a tender. All critical equipment at the power plant was powered from inverters powered by battery banks. Each week one battery bank was placed on a load to draw them down to 80% voltage and then recharged prior to being placed in service. Each cell would be tested before and after and any that didn't pass the test had to be replaced. We seldom had to replace one.

A hoarder that has 5 spare 8 speeds and 30+ spare tires should have a couple hundred spare belts. Store em forever.

Trying to organize my spare tires/wheels, moved some into the new shed this evening. Left all my crummy tires and wheels in my old tarp shed.

Son Mark and I went crabbing to a new spot. Left at 5AM for Fort Smallwood State Park on the upper Chesapeake Bay. Beautiful park on the bay. Caught a half bushel and back home and in the steamer by noon.

if it’s a 4 terminal for a Ford, it grounds through the mount also. The small “S” terminal goes to the starter terminal of the ignition switch. The small “I” terminal would normally be wired to the positive side of the ignition coil and it outputs 12v when the relay is energized to bypass the ballast resistor to provide a hotter spark during cranking, so you wouldn’t want to ground that one either.

I'll take any good ones. Don't toss them out and bring'm to Zags I do all kinds of nonsense things around here and prefer to just grab one off the shelf vs going out to buy them. It's good to have one of those long belts around to start other engines from a tractor PTO.

I often reflect that I was a major PITA to my folks with a dangerous temper. Yet they let me live and supported an undeserving me.

I have an ancient Shumacher 2/10 amp and ancient roll around NAPA 450 amp that just keep on going. I think the NAPA branded one may be made by Shumacher as well. The knobs are off of an old gas grill Edit: I misspoke. The small one is a Schauer. I think it was my Dad’s, and he’s been gone since 1972. Tapering charge. Still works great despite much neglect.

The day began with a trip to Home Depot and Sam’s club where I picked up some groceries, and two wide totes to put my clothes I couldn’t hang like pants, shorts etc… in. I helped my father load some furniture of which some I donated along with him and my mother to a local Fireman’s Auction. I then did some organizing and made a spot for my projects with some small parts. I then started to work on with a Kohler 23 hp Command engine I got from my brother that would run but lose power eventually stalling when hot. I’m going to look up how it comes apart as it’s a bit more intricate than our old Kohlers. Everything but the valves have been gone through and checked by my brother, who researches known issues/problems before he throws a parts cannon at something. so I thought I’d start with the valves as they haven’t been touched yet. The C-85 project may have a heart if I can figure out the issue. Now, I’m done for the night and I’m going to go relax.

The center spindle on my 48"SD took a c#$p while mowing early this spring. I swapped it out with my spare 42SD and used it all summer. Yesterday I dumped my spindle bucket and found a good one. Cleaned , greased and back on the tractor. Picking up the tractor with the hoist really makes it easy to roll the decks under the tractor from the front.

I know I'm probably the only one that has done this, but could the fuel valve be shut off.

Most of my "custom" builds are designed to use an existing belt from my stock.

What the heck, no hydros? I will see your five gear jammers and raise you a couple of 1100 Eatons. One of these days I need to line them up nice and pretty.

I like the older Schumacher chargers. @WHX??will attest to the fact that I will run over the top of some one at a flea market in order to get one. What I like about them is that they will actually change a dead battery. No BS electronics to screw up the process.

I have always heard that belts don't stretch, they just wear down. I hang on to a few long belts of both 1/2 and 5/8 in the event I'm doing a project where the factory belt isn't going to work. Cut the old belt, put it on and pull up the slack, once you figure the length is right use some tie wire to join the two ends and give it a try. Now you have a proper belt to take to Tractor Supply to measure and match up

For those who worked their entire lives and did not have benefit of a company or government retirement or pension package, Social Security is what it was meant to be, a safety net. Having paid into the system all of our working lives, it could have been managed better, but it is still better than nothing. As for those who are somehow drawing Social Security without contributing, that's a crime. I'll say no more.

I finished up the grader blade project back in July. It came out better than I expected. I really appreciate everyone's help in providing me with dimensions, pictures, suggestions and encouragement. I couldn't have done it without all your help

For not being at work today I have been pretty busy. Ran 880 lbs of mostly sheet metal across the scale, ran to a friend's house and cut down a dead tree, and hauled half of it away. It was bigger than I remembered and I didn't take the right stuff, so I ran out of fuel and the only chain I had went dull. Not the end of the world as the trailer was pretty well full on this run anyway and I should make a second trip just because of weight. Then I came home and did some brakes.

Not to hijack a Birthday thread but for some reason when @Jrblanke is around I'm eating!

I have two 1.25 amp and one .75 amp Battery Tenders, I just don't trust most of the cheap stuff out there. I rotate the chargers among six tractors, two trailers, one mower and one motorcycle, leaving each attached about 3 days per month.

I have one of those battery tender plug-ins on my motorcycle, hadn't thought about putting them on the tractors but that's a great idea. I think I'll get a few more tenders so I have enough for each and don't have to remember to move them around periodically in the winter. But sometimes I remove the batteries and bring them in the house, like when it's going to be say, below 20 degrees (or worse) for several days or more.

Hot air engine, great entertainment but they don't produce enough power to wind a spool of thread.

Scour FB MP and garage sales for an old one. I still have my Craftsman from when I got my first car in 76. I use it for my E tank. I did buy one of those Viking Battery jump pack thingy's from HF. Haven't needed to use it yet.

Put my newly rebuilt mule drive and new belt on the 312-8 today. This drive and belt was destined for the 520H but the 312’s belt was wore out so just swapped both out while I was at it. Notice I bent gaurd on mule drive the belt was rubbing bad for some reason but it ain’t rubbing now . Have no idea what this mule drive came off of but didnt think there was any difference in any of them besides the ones for the 60” 520 decks.

The safety tread on the C141 was worn and peeling. Heat gun and scraper made short work of removing them. I had more on the shelf. Used four smaller pieces rather than cutting into a large one. Good result for a little effort. Started to quit for the day, but Edy was mopping the utility room and kitchen floors. So I was marooned to the shop for a little while longer. Tried putting a shine on the hoods of the 520H and the C141. I will work on the rest of the tins a little at a time. The mower decks will get spiffed up this winter.

The C41 has two rubber stops and springs under the seat/spring mounting plate. one spring was broken and one rubber stop was missing. After scrounging through the “extra parts” I found two heavier springs and two rubber stops. A few minutes later they were installed.

I like the Viking chargers at Hobo Freight. they even go into winter maintain mode. A little pricey tho.
