Today I bought two planters for the Mrs. After unloading them into my wagon I thought it might be picture worthy so I snapped one while on their way to their destination.

Here’s a few of my herd, I’ve collected and sold them for the past few years, very early 78’ C-141 A, 76’ B-80, 71’ Bronco 14, 73’ No name 14, I actually have two but the other one is a Frankenstein. And I’ve owned an 800, 416-H, and a charger and a few others which have been parted out sadly or sold. I started this whole thing with my c-141 given to me by one of my dads friends, back in 2022, since then I’ve been through over 12 different garden tractors and now I’m sitting at 5 trying to keep them and take them to shows. Thanks Don. 😊 Meeha is doing well. She's been improving her ability to stand for several days .. a little wobbly at first. Trina says "drunken monkey". Yesterday she was able to lay back down for the first time. That's a big step in the right direction. Today we're experimenting with removing one of the meds, on vet recommendations of course.

Painted some WH rear wheel weights and some JD front weights red today.

Finally made time for a few days of work on our Ky property this week. 1st order of business was to wake EJ the 8N up from his extended hibernation. Suprise, suprise all 4 tires held air over the winter. He needed some antifreeze to top up the radiator. Poured the remaining couple gallons of last year's gas in the tank, reinstalled the battery, flipped the switch to on, bumped the starter button, and he started right up. Scary, really. That electronic ignition I installed last year sure is wonderful. Brakes still work, too. Good sign that it got the axle leak fixed last year. Bush hogged the roadside and the 'driveway' before things got weird. Sputter, sputter, stall. Got gas in the tank, seems to be spark. What the heck? Tools a couple hundred yards up hill - 90+ degrees. Get back with proper wrench, loosen the fuel line as carb, fuel comes out. Switch on, bump the starter button, starts right up. Drive him back up the hill and trade the bush hog for a box blade. He runs the box blade for a while, but does the sputter, sputter, stall routine a couple more times. Same fix. I've come up with 3 possibilities: Vapor lock. The fuel line does pass right over the engine. It was a hot day. Loosening the fuel line at the carb 'burped' the vapor out? Faulty shutoff valve at the tank? The fuel level was approaching the 'reserve' level. Completely opening the valve does not open the 'reserve'? Overheated coil? Again, a hot day. The coil feels about like a cup of coffee. Wasn't much cooler when the tractor restarted. I'm pretty sure thus isn't the issue. Short term fix - 5 more gallons of gas in the tank tomorrow. Long term fix - electric fuel pump?

I would put back the old plug that was in her when she last ran...Wouldn't be the first time a new electrical thing didn't work....especially if it is a Champion they fail to fire under compression

Move the ground cable to the engine block itself. You have a heavy duty cable from the battery to the ignition switch and another heavy duty cable from the ignition switch to the "A" terminal on the Starter / Generator. That is all there is to the starter system. Nothing else except the ground wire has anything to do with your starter.

I had no intention of becoming a Wheel Horse enthusiast. I just wanted a strong garden tractor to be able to maneuver my stone trailer around my yard. And I remembered my neighbor's Wheel Horse tractors from my youth. Of course, once I acquired an old Wheel Horse, I immediately needed information to make it whole again and perform to my needs. I have decent mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn but lacked a quality source of information. Once I found Red Square, I was flooded with said information and an abundance of support for all of my questions. That (and my OCD) is what converted me into an enthusiast. A few of the locals hit me up for tips and knowledge now. Pretty wild. The information that is archived on this site, along with the willingness of its members to participate in problem solving, is amazing! As a bonus, just the sharing of members' enjoyment of everyday "Wheel Horsing" makes this sight a delightful place to visit!

Not Ron Howard, it's Michael J Fox, that has Parkinson's.

My experience shows me that rebuilding a carb is no longer a trouble shooting exercise. It is a scheduled maintenance item.

I have a 51 8n... When it sputters out and dies then wont start, immediately check for spark. it might spark a little but it needs to throw a good spark to run. 1/4" in the open air. You might se less of a spark say on the pulled out plug or on a spark tester, but under compression it might not have enough juice to spark enough. The 8n is a low compression engine.... it takes a hot spark to get it to fire. Stick a good coil on there and see if the problem goes away. As you observe, something is happening when its hot, and that narrows it down a lot. Air bubbles in the fuel line shouldn't hurt, its keeping the bowl full thats all that matters. With low fuel in the tank, it doesnt take much tilt to stop the fuel, but if it dies on that tilt, you wont have any fuel flowing out. If it did it even w a half tank, I suspect the coil is overheating.

I started off looking for help changing a starter on my 312-8 and ended up re building re wiring and re powering a roller C-141 auto. I agree with @Bar Nuthin the very accessible info that is archived is one thing and a very vast thing. The members camaraderie and willingness to assist in any way they can to solve problems is the other. If there is a question, there is 99.9 times out of 100 probability there is an answer here or someone helps get you to it. The old posts are part of it I learn something new every time I’m here.

The information shared by members past and present has contributed to a well of knowledge that we all can draw from. Without Red Square and our moderators all of that would have just gone away.

Old posts are awesome. I run into them on a very regular basis while searching for information. Some great stuff back then. Some great stuff today too. This website has been an amazing resource for dozens of reasons.

Thanks John for the post. I went thru the beginning twice. It was deferent then. Tractors were every where with lots of good meaningful posts. I guess we come a long way from how you posted pictures in photo bucket. I am glade we do not do that any more. It is well worth the $20 a year to easily post of our tractors. So many attachments and all the manuals you’ll ever need all in one spot. I would say one of the best run forums on the web.

The site is now in it's 20th year. I joined in 2007 and was maybe member 30 (I don't quite remember). At one point it was the Karl and Mike show, since they were the only two active members for a while. I believe a guy named Chris started the site before Karl took over.

LOL! This C-81 is a parts rig and I decided to strip it down today..trans will sit on a shelf as a spare but I wanted fresh fluid in it before it gets stored away.

Same! Never even heard of WH before I bought one. Then I found this place way back in 08 just looking for some info on that tractor I bought and these clowns turned it into a full blown obsession. I learned quite A LOT over the years and this was basically my go to source for that info.

@Mastink It never fails to amaze me when I get a new to or even when a customer brings one in the serial number is already in files. It also never fails that when I post a tag it finds it's way into a file. Me thinks Garry has special software that looks for tags in posts so he can add them. Great job Garry we certainly appreciate how well those files are kept.

I had forgot about compression release. It did run before. It has a new spark plug. Thank you.

Compression tests on a Kohler with compression release can be a bit hard to go by. The cam shaft has a feature that releases some of the compression until the engine is turning over a couple hundred rpms to make it easier to start. If it ran good before it shouldn't be a compression problem unless it was opened up or the valves adjusted. Even though the engine has good spark I would start with a new spark plug.

The sequel a few years later was, in my opinion, lackluster at best. Fairly typical where they access the success of the original, then try to ride the Gravy Train one more time... Steven Spielburg did the three "Back to the Future" movies right. The scripts for all three were written before the filming of the first, knowing he had a hit on his hands. Plus the fact that none of the cast was getting any younger, and Ron Howard's Parkinsons was progressing.....

That is a good sign. It means that it's probably not internally bypassed (seals not blown out). I guess the next thing to do would be to get the lines loose and into a container of some sort and check for flow. Pro tip: You can remove the pulley, chuck it in a cordless drill, and have a lot more control than trying to do these tests with the engine driving the pump.

Welcome to Red Square. No do not have a single database for the serials. What was in it was added to each model in the Files of Red Square and still add to it as serials show up. PM me your model and serial numbers and any build dates you have and will add them. Once that is done I will link you to one so you can see how it works.

The 520 was first in line so it got put on trailer duty. Needed to pressure wash my shop. Since the ends are 30’wide and 18’ high at the peak I used a stepladder in a small trailer. The 520 kept it stable. The north side is 40” x9.5 to the soffiting. No ladder needed. The east and north sides needed to be hit with some house wash/ mold remover. Since there are flower beds and gardens on the west and south sides they only got rinsed without the house wash. I normally do this every year, butI kinda skipped last year and the mold came on really strong this season. After that the 520 got hooked to the “water buffalo “ and went on watering duty. 20 gallon sprayer with a small dose of miracle grow added to it.

Takes a great deal of effort to pull the ram out (both hands and some grunting). Slightly less effort to push the ram back in.

It’s hard to swallow EB, but life in general can be at times. Roughly 4 or 5 weeks ago, our dark grey cat Bruno stayed out all night. That’s sometimes common occurrence around here, but Mrs. P and I had that eerie feeling that something happened. Momma says she finds comfort believing that he walked out of our lives and into another family’s. I on the other hand think he met his demise picking one more fight and ended up in the food chain. Either way, it’s been different but it seems like it’s been our easiest loss of any pets. Now we are down to Rooster and Lynx.

@Armadillo👍, are you sure of the year of manufacture for your ? You mentioned the 103990 and 103991 ignition switches. These are in no way interchangeable electrically. Does your engine have a battery powered ignition system or a magneto? see the illustrations below. Under the seat there should be a sticker with a model number, 21-10K801 21-10K802 or 21-10K803 will have a battery ignition system and require the 103990 key switch. Models 21-10K804 21-10K805 and 21-10K806 will be a magneto ignition and require the 103991 switch. The attached thread explains what happens if the wrong switch is used. .

Tied into a Onan I got from @Blasterdad at @Pullstart plow day. Someone started taking it all apart and don't know why. He said it ran when parked and debating whether or not to pop the heads and check things out. Seems to have good compression. Hear tell new head gaskets are junk tho. Cleaned up nice & maybe give the flywheel some red bling.

Axle just about done - well the hard bit both drive flanges, knuckles and drive shafts in. first offering - its the same track and pivot point as the suburban axle at 16" between centres. what it might look like

I just picked up a snowblower off CL free. 29" Crapsman with a 9hp Techy. Was on CL for 2 weeks. I was sure, for free, it didn't run. The guy drove it out of the back yard. Runs perfect, new AG tires too. Moving and had to get rid of it. Threw in an extra starter motor to boot! Jack pot.

Today's haul... An antique Hudson's wagon. Great condition!!!
