10 pointsWe are not putting down other brands, we are merely expressing out preference. I tell my wife I don't find fault with other women, I just prefer her, . Besides, the phrase is "NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE BEING CHASED BY A WHEEL HORSE."

6 pointsI'm with Kev on the ribbing part don't go to thinking the JD owners don't talk about the WH stuff. @Pullstart Does Chevy still give a free puppy with every purchase? Just so you don't have to walk alone when it lays down on ya.
-
6 pointsI consider it ribbing just like hot rods. I’m a Chevy guy. We need the competition to be competitive, and I appreciate them all, but I can’t see myself driving a truck where they circle the problem on the grille!
-
6 pointsI really wish you guys would stop putting down other brands, they will all break down eventually. The truth is, that slogan started with Deere's snowmobile line in the early 1970s. And it stuck. And the truth is that Deere makes probably the best line of lawn and garden tractors today with their X series line, made in Horicon, Wisconsin. Their 7 gauge deck, known as the 7 Iron, is the only 7 gauge deck that is stamped from a single piece of steel. The other manufacturers have to fabricated their commercial decks, using 7 gauge for the sides and 10 gauge for the top section and welding them together to make a deck. Only Deere has a press large enough to stamp 7 gauge metal. Rounded corners means less material buildup to corrode and rust a deck. It's also sad, though, that Deere choses to penalize their ag buyers with their policy for repairs. I know the auto industry wants to do this as well. Sad.

-
4 pointsAnother rule of thumb comes from zero turns: if you can't back up the entire hill without wheelspin you should not mow it with said machine. If it's steep enough to slide it's well past steep enough to flip. One thing to note: your ag tires might grip better running backwards initially, but when they finally slip they will slide like an ice rink because the chevron shape running correctly should "shed" whatever it pulls up. Running backwards will compact any debris and hold it making the tread useless.
-
4 pointsGear jammer or Hydro, you can mow up a hill much better than down, Simple physics, going up hill the weight of the tractor is being applied to the rear axle, going down a hill the weight is being transferred toward the front axle. I have used tire chains while mowing a steep grade, if you don't spin the tires they won't harm the grass.

3 pointsThe first U.S. Congress authorized the construction of 10 vessels to patrol U.S. ports from Massachusetts to Georgia. The United States Coast Guard takes form in this small fleet of “cutters”—fast-moving, speedy sailboats—tasked with intercepting marine smugglers and collecting tariffs on imported goods. It's the brainchild of Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. secretary of the treasury under President George Washington.

2 pointsProbablh 12v. Solenoid turns on the pump when the lever is moved to one side but not the other (see the spring.) I’d bet it was from a small dump bed truck with a single-acting cylinder. Lever one way turns on pump and lifts the bed. Lever the other way drains cylinder back to the reservoir. Dyna Might Grand Rapids

2 pointsI am very saddened to report that my brother Wade David Ralph passed away on Wednesday due to complications from COPD. He was an Army veteran serving in the Army Corps of Engineers as a mechanic, truck driver and operated heavy bulldozers during the Hurst Fires near Fort Ord, California in the 1970’s. He was a very good carpenter, building homes and remodeling in Alabama and other locations and often assisted my father Clifton Ralph in his blacksmith shop. David was also a great Wheel Horse garden tractor fan ! We traveled to many different tractor shows and bought many Wheel Horse tractors across the USA and one in Canada! His COPD prevented him from traveling to shows with me the last 7 years as he was 24/7 on concentrated oxygen. FYI WADE DAVID RALPH 10/08/1953-07/29/2026 Visitation Saturday August 8th 10:30a-12:30p Kuiper Funeral Home 9039 Kleinman Road Highland, IN Internment 1:00p Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens 8178 S Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN

2 pointsBe careful for what you wish for. Many appliances, including Central A/C's have been cost reduced so much that their life expectancy is lower that the unit it replaces.
-
2 pointsI will say this for JD'ers Every show I've been to they are the friendliest. The IH guys show up late and move your stuff when you are not there because they want the spot you have. The green guys say park here with us. The AC guys at our steam show are accommodating as well.

2 pointsThere a c-clip on top of the ball bearing, could be both are worn. The roller bearing at botton is only for rotation.
-
2 pointsMaintainance on appliances, both kitchen & utility does extend their usefullness.. I drain 4 water heaters annually - my house and the rental. Ditto on giving all the expansion tanks the fingernail "Ting" test to see if they are still functional. A note on water heaters... I will NEVER buy another "self cleaning" style one ever again. It works in theory, but sucks in practice. It is self cleaning, it has a turbine blade at the bottom inside below the dip tube where the cold water comes in..... every time you draw hot water, the turbine stirs up the bottom sediment - but where does it go??? Out into everything that uses hot water. It clogs up the faucet aereators & worse, the dishwasher inlet valve screen. I could not wait for that one to die....
-
2 pointsTo clarify, most every Wheel Horse has an open differential. Preference to the less grip is applied when moving forward, backward, or slowing down. The brake is not simply on one wheel. I know you know what you mean Lee, but I figured it’s worth mentioning for future reading.
-
2 pointsT-Mo. My brother in Vt always ask me why I hate J.D. I always tell him I don’t hate John Deere. I hate the color yellow just never could stand looking at that color.. And in Vermont being called the green Mountain state I guess it just fits. I also would like to add there is a ton of those tractors up there people love them In that state. I guess I could say John Deere’s is king from what I can see. I’ll stick with red.
-
2 pointsNot sure why you cant message me here , but i will be making more come this fall , when i do i will put a post on that they are available

1 pointThe 417 - A also has the Eaton 1100 series hydro in it. Again, if it was maintained that is a very strong Hydro unit.

1 pointI noticed a small amount of smoke coming from under the hood of Morgan, the 14-8. Closer inspection revealed the smoke was coming from the front of the engine around the exhaust port where there was an accumulation of oily dirt. Today, I gave the engine a bath with spray on Gunk and the garden hose. Looks much better, though it didn't want to start. Probably got the points damp. I try it tomorrow and see what happens. This happened last time I cleaned the engine - no start right after cleaning, but ran fine the next day.

1 pointScored some rear WH wheel weights and some FMC wheel weights today . The WH weights are going on the C160 if I dont change my mind. Leaning 520H for the FMC weights. They look just like some Bolens weights I have seen before. Got the xtra 7 1/2” WH wheels for free. Been a good morning these wheel weights are pretty rare around here so I’m happy to have found them. The WH weights are white but think I like um red better did certain years have red and others have white weight?
-
1 pointI agree. Just good natured trash talk humor. One of the guys I worked with is a Mustang fan. One day he had his latest acquisition in the parking lot and was talking about it to a couple three other folks, I walk up and say "looks fast. What's in it? A small block and a Powerglide?" Got a priceless reaction out of everybody, laughter, confusion, and of course the "oh man" reaction from the owner.
-
1 pointI might recommend a little more than 5 psi, or fluid fill the tires. But more weight unsprung is always a good idea. It’ll keep the effects of that open differential less noticeable for slip.

1 pointNice score on that 312-8. Mine is my go to mowing machine, so I definitely agree with you,
-
1 pointPainted the FMC weights RegalRed today. Had every intention of putting the Wheel Horse weights on the C160 but the rims have the valve stem on outside so they want work on it (came off a Craftsman mower). The FMC has a cut out for valve stem so they got the call.
-
1 pointBill, I actually believe the FMC weights have a big enough center to allow mounting on rim before mounting wheel to tractor, I do have a set that has too small a center on a 1257 and believe those are also Bolens, but now that I think about it, they may be Gravely? pic of 1257 weights in pic below.
