So I offered to get this franken driving for Brett Esse of Portage Show proprietor fortune and fame. He offered to pay me for the work, which I refused, and I had to explain to him the difference between a hobby and a job. Actually is a cute little tractor and runs fairly decent. Started out life as a 656 with a K181 repo. Floor boards added but nicely done. Problem is the tranny is locked up solid and all the diesel and kerosene in the world is not going to help. @Achto sold him an off the shelf spare tranny to put in it to get it driving and ready to be sold at the show. Greetings Horse family! After a hiatus, got settled in at Western Illinois and decided it's time for a change. Great grandpa's C195 is doing well and I believe it's fitting to repaint. Located an original set of ag tires on rims and got them on but think they are too skinny 😭. However, looking for exact replacements are not happening. I'm wanting recommendations on a set that are just as tall and wanting to go wider. Having a 48 inch deck for now until I locate a 60 or take two 48s and weld my own together 😁, I can run dish in so wider will fit. Seat pan has repairs and would like to locate another fiberglass or grab a steel pan and be happy as a worker. Anyone tried to make a fiberglass replacement before? And the debate on paint..... Original once but after looking at the bubbling paint and rust, I might as well take it down to bare and do it correctly. After reading a lot of suggestions, I think it's Navajo White and IH red. But I'm open to suggestions... Black goes either way. Some prefer Gloss or Satin. Hydro lever, hydraulic levers, engine screen and air cleaner cover I think should be chrome, not rattle can but chrome. Anyone have a lead on a reputable company for that? Decals, we all know who that guy is! Motor needs nothing, finally stopped using oil after cleaning carbon and filling block with off road diesel and ATF, removing spark plugs, engaged PTO and spun motor over using an electric motor to spin it at operating RPM for an hour each flush. 5 hours later, no more smoking and switched to Royal Purple oil and MMO in fuel. Any suggestions, tips or advice is definitely welcome. Thank you all for reading and enjoy your hobby!

Since my last post on this subject if have been lucky to find a few great "new" cans for my collection. First is an Eagle No.66 Brass Oiler And one that I found just this past Friday. I didn't know what I had until I cleaned it up. This is a thumb oiler from a 1920 Pierce Arrow tool kit.

I think Navajo White was renamed Cottage White (insulting to native Americans maybe??) so that’s what I’ve been using for wheels.

Moving more firewood this morning. This second load was a monster.

The trans was stuck and also had a large crack in cast pan. Probably from water in it freezing. The crack saved the gears from rusting bad since the water could just run out. Cleaned the rust off the gears and did a JB weld of the crack. It's been about a month since we (my nephew Paul has been helping me) got it running and shifting. This is a little above idle in 3rd gear so it looks like it will go pretty fast in 3rd.

At the big show I got a frame from a round hood, tranny, and dash tower from @Pullstart. I also got a short frame square hood, and the dash pieces from @Mike'sHorseBarn. I got a pullstart 8 horse from one of the guys in the barns and a steering wheel from one of the guys set up in the in field. When I got the steering wheel, it still had the roll pin and part of the cut off steerong shaft in it. I soaked it for a few days with kroil and worked on it yesterday. That was the easiet roll pin I've ever had come out once I figured out how to hold the wheel. The chunk of the steering shaft also came right out. I put it in our press and barely had any pressure on it and it moved. Today, having no power and it being hot, all I did was put the dash pieces together and set them on the tower. It's been 100 degrees and humid here since we got back from the show so I haven't really been able to work on very much.

All new rigs that come here need something, so they all get a turn in the garage for fluids/grease and all that. Well my new C-81 from the Wheel Horse Show had a pretty good oil leak that I didn’t notice at first. Showed up after a 20 minute drive. Turned out the fuel pump gasket was on UPSIDE DOWN! Had a new gasket here in stock and it was an easy fix. I don’t have a gasket for the carb to engine block as that one isn’t correct, but it does seem to seal. Any reason I need to do the carb gasket???

Great day today working with @Natejc_98 on his 1973 8 HP 4 speed. Got a lot done. Got it to run on sprayed gas. Need to clean the carb and replace the throttle cable.

Same here but some do and some don't. More so with small blocks. Always suspected it has something to do with variable timing issues. Points variation, cam lash or something like that but could be dead nuts wrong too. Never bad enough to really worry about so I just run er.

Yep, there are shims in two places in the reduction steering. One set to bring the big gear on the intermediate shaft closer to the steering shaft gear. Another brings the lower steering shaft’s fan gear closer to the intermediate shaft’s bevel gear. While you’re in there, look closely for excess play in the socket that holds the steering wheel shaft--it has a grease zerk that is routinely ignored and results extra wear.

FYI…I’m just over 6’ so don’t cheap out on the new improved cab

We put tubes in all the tires, new brake master cylinder, waiting for some new 1/4" brake line but we did make a temp line out of copper tubing I had laying around to check the wheel cylinders and brake operation. So far so good and need to adjust those brakes back from removing the drums. If the brakes work then it's time for a temp seat and take it for a test drive!. Hold my beer and watch this! LOL As suspected the cab is a little too small so it even crams me in there at only 5' 7". The cab will need to be lengthened about 8" front to back and the roof raised about 4 more inches higher. I'll try and get rid of that square "Pope mobile" look since it needs modifications anyway.

Hope so. Already got a list started of parts to purchase to do all the needed maintenance items. Like I mentioned its my 1st experience with an Onan.

Sorry Jim for the bad news. It’s never an easy call. We lost two of ours last year. My girl is getting old and it’s going to be hard when she gets to that point. Funny thing is I didn’t want her but my wife brought her home anyways. She became part of the family quick. You’ll do what’s right. 👍

Thanks guys and good advice Bob. Trouble is Cindy doesn't want to see her suffer even tho I tell her we'll know when the time is right. On a happy note we are going to pick up a new addition. A Westie pup in MO and hopefully have a visit with @ronwh We had this all planned out long before the bad news. Leaving right after the Portage Show.

@WHX?? Tough duty... just went through this with our Denali 2 months ago... cancer. As @Racinbob says... they'll let you know. Put him down 3 weeks after diagnosis...

That's a tough call Jim. We are dealing with a similar issue with one of ours. Kidney failure. We asked the vet that question. He said she will let us know when it's time. That seems like good advice.

Prayers shipmate I thought of you a couple of times at the BS and wondered how she was doing. Sadly now I know and I'll say a prayer for you and her every time I see a mid mount.

Does the transmission have a 2nd output shaft (or blank removable cover for one) which was typically used for a winch or hydraulic pump.

Both. They fit 12" wheels. Garden tractor rear or larger tractor fronts.

Several years ago I was given a set of new take-off rear lamps from an IHC tractor chassis that was being built into a dump truck. These would have bolted to the frame (inside or outside of) depending on the customer's intentions of use. The dump chassis specs didn't fit the usage so these were removed. Today I used online search info to determine the most likely ground wire color and tested the units. All good. Notated the wires. I'm hoping to keep the original Ford factory wiring harness in place. This Tekonsha plug in adapter should get me the connections I need so I can splice the aftermarket lights in. Also found a 7 way plug and trailer brake controller in the parts box. I need to confirm that the 7 way is the correct style.

I have two of the same kit awaiting installation! They are careful copies (in black powder-coat) of the original WH option using a rocker-style, heel-toe pedal.

There can be a ridiculous amount of rotational torque on a sleeve hitch so be sure the cross-to-legs and sleeve-to-cross welds are some of your best work. That most of these are bent from straight bar stock is not an accident.

My wife is an avid quilter and has more sewing machines than I have Wheel Horses. A few of her machines cost more than my entire herd so I don't have to justify the expenditure. Yesterday she went to a Quilters' Guild get together and came home emptyhanded she must be slipping.
