7 pointsFollowing a good rain, I took advantage of the soften ground and dragged the driveway. About once a year I stir the gravel. Looks like time to get a load of gravel delivered got a few areas of clay poking through. .
-
7 pointsI installed clutch spring with diy high performance tool and I put new shifter boot, at this point I checked and tightened that shifter screw (changing gears is better now). I adjusted deck too. As I mentioned in earlier posts I changed fuel pump (not original) to aftermarket cheap one (I got 2 spare ones and 2 new CarBole on the shelf). After a few hours pump works OK but I had to tighten the screws twice. Right now I have some spare parts (belts, pumps, other small items) so far so good.. I installed original clutch spring but I ordered 2 more springs - 11/16" x 5 3/4" these are shorter than original one, but recommended on the forum.

6 pointsThe closing of this chapter on the 520-H. Thanks for everyone's input and assistance. It was a fun ride. I look forward to being able to update when the machine is back in the shop for service.

6 points#happycampers I slept about 4 hours if I’m lucky, but all them tail lights on the highway are calling my name. It’s time to get Eloise rolling
-
6 pointsGot the herd out to graze and to rearrange for summer use. Yes, they all started and ran to drive into the lineup.

5 pointsThere isn't really a good way to bench test them unless you have the proper test apparatus. About the only thing you can do is apply +12 volts to the A terminal and ground the case. If it spins chances are good that it will charge. Most often a good cleaning is all that is required. Possibly brushes and and bearings. If in doubt about the regulator just replace it. Need the model of the tractor for the correct wiring diagram but here is a basic one. Attached are some of the manuals I have. Starter_Generator_Repair.pdf Training_Chart_Generators_4.pdf

5 pointsWell got most the baked on crud off the frame and tins. Washed the wheels up, although they will need painted later. Cleaned up the corrosion on it. I didn’t get underneath the tractor as much but that will be a later day. At least I can see the red color, could tell it before. Lol! Waiting on my new shifter boot cover before I put all back together. Think I’m gona paint the foot rest cause they are petty ugly. Gotta find some non slip pads to put on them.

4 pointsZagray is May 2nd in CT. Here’s stuff I can bring to sell if anybody is interested… - A project bronco 14 with original 14 hp engine. Project machine. $100 - running Kohler 14 hp with complete wiring harness. $100. - 257 – H project machine, complete, with 42 inch mowing deck. $100. - Wheel horse dump cart. $75. - cub cadet 122. 4 pointsBeen working on something fun: A custom built RC truck with a 3d printed body, inspired by a 70s suburban. Vanquish VS4-10 chassis, well tested motor that's the same as the one in my brother's TRX4, going to be running a set of Falken Wildpeak tires on it, on 1.7" rims to get the clearance right. Going to get a leaf spring kit for the rear axle and keep the front axle coil spring. Still a lot of work but it's going to be super cool when it's done.
-
4 pointsTook some setting and resetting and patience... and I got the rear fenders where I wanted em. The pics don't quite show the angles right. They do sag to the outside away from the trailer. That lean is real. And on purpose. Some full scale trailers are built that way. I did catch that the fenders are a slightly different tilt. Decided to leave it. Sometimes life and machinery get tangled up and things get bent. I think the differing tilts adds to the realism of a working trailer.

4 points315-8 saw a little mowing duty tonight. Kicked up quite a bit on dust, had to hose her down when I was done.

4 pointsI like the GT1600 for being different but my go to tractors always seem to be the 520. I have an older straight axle that I use for mowing and the 520HC gets plow duty. For the most part all the rest just get driven once in a while just for the fun of it. Once I get a hood on the 416 it may get used more. The Kohler powered rigs start up and run fine but the smoothness of the twins makes me prefer to drive them.
-
4 pointsC'mon Don that rear fender decal is buggin me. And a rear reflector. You know better than that. @c-series don
-
4 pointsHere is my original C-101 decal placement is the same as the 161. Sometimes people put the hood decals on backwards, drives me crazy!! The transmission oil decal goes under the seat on the seat pan

3 pointsPut 12 volts om he A terminal and ground the case the genny should spin up fast..then remove the power it should slowly spin down. Try again but after you remove the voltage ground the F terminal the genny should stop quickly.
-
3 pointsGetting closer to having it finished. I'm just about finished with the sector plate, just need to file the three slots to width and then weld the round bar to the sector plate. Also I still need to work out the adjusting arm, but I have enough pictures that I don't think it's going to be too difficult. Once I'm sure everything fits properly I'll get it all welded and painted.

3 pointsThe last four tires I've bought were OTR. They are a bit expensive compared to the no name stuff on the jungle site (I've had good luck with those so far as well), but they seem to be very good quality. Time will tell on the longevity of course... But all four of those tires are accurate on sizing. They do measure what is written on the sidewalls.

3 pointsThanks! Since this is my work being basically given away, I'd like it to be spot on.
-
3 pointsAn unusual size and tread on these: OTR Grassmaster in 22x12-12 size. Typically used on commercial ZTRs. Actual measurements are 22 inches tall, 11.5 wide. Probably would make true 12 inch width on 10 inch wide wheels.

3 pointsThanks to "953 nut", I was able to find the proper throttle mechanism at partstree to fit my 312. It was expensive but worth it, because I want my tractor to function as intended. Now all I need to know is what the proper size screws are, that hold the throttle in pace on the dash. Thank you very much for the "Partstree" suggestion. On another positive note, the Ebay seller issued me a refund on the defective part he sent to me. So far, so good. Tom

-
3 pointsMy wife says this too, but she's usually trying to get me to shut up! Yeah I really think my welds are free of any pinhole, but tubes make new tires so much easier to install. I didn't use them up front and it was much more work on such wide tires.

3 pointsI had a 704 that was pretty sloppy. Built new tie rods that helped, but what really helped was the oversize roll pins in the spindles and fan gear.

2 pointsLots of idea to keep mice out of the equipment. have not found a winner yet. They like to use dryer sheets in the nest and whine they get wrapped around the bendix it is a bad day. Have the 5 gal bucket trap sort of works if the storage ares is sealed enough to keep out possums raccoon etc they just rip the top off to get the bait. Mothballs are always mentioned...Went to crank up the Case VAC today for the first time since October. The white bag is holding the moth balls. After I cleaned it off she fired right up.
-
2 pointsMaine Coon maybe? Here's our little ball of fur. He's bigger than our dogs
-
2 pointsThis picture is of a 400 model with an Eaton 1100 but the belt routing would be the same. The belt should be above the guide circled in yellow.
-
2 points@BradKahler WHOA WHOA, WHOA, I see a big problem here, you should be making two and sell me one

2 pointsThat really cleaned up well!
-
2 pointsYes, that's the one, I knew I had seen them before. Got to thinking I was going crazy. I just got one of those the other day and have to say it looks great now if I can just find one for the fan gaurd.
-
2 pointsAnd got away with it...... Maybe not the same result if they were each riding a Nut Roaster with a poppity-pop showerhead muffler!! Just sayin'...
-
2 pointsIf you got it use it, it's still good lubricant just expensive and over kill for your engine, I would still change it at 25 hours, then just use T-1 or T-2.
-
2 pointsMounted the first rear tire just for giggles. The inside of the wheel was primed and painted but still gotta finish the outside. These things are rather knobby! Used a tube just in case. And a boat load of talcum powder. If it pops there will be a white dust cloud. But it really makes the entire process of mounting the tire and tube so much better. Also there is a comparison of front and rear tire size in the last two pics. I really like this set of tires!
-
2 pointsDefinitely tire irons for helping slip the tire off of and then back onto a rim. Being plastic, they can slide along the rim with little risk of damaging it. The square notches at the near end are for adjusting the spokes on bicycle wheels!
-
2 pointsIf I had the room with bigger outbuildings and land I would do the opposite, I would buy one for each implement. I live in town with 4 vehicles in my driveway, a vehicle in the garage, and my tractor with 2 dump carts and a plow blade in the back shed, and a 4x8 trailer behind that in a lean-to, along with tools and other stuff, the basement is all my woodworking stuff. Someday we will move to a nice piece of property so I can hoard some tractors . I sold 2 engines that were sitting in the shed and I think to myself that didn’t even help.
-
2 pointsI'm down to 6. And I thought I had a problem. Choosing the next one's down will be tough. Nice job @cleat

2 pointsIs the unit on Ethanol ? Ethanol degrades rubber fuel lines, the fine rubber particulates end up in the jets - worked on a K181 a few years ago P O also tried a new carb, the degraded fuel line clogged the new carb up in a short order . After another carb - new fuel line and Ethanol free gas running normal again . Just putting it out there

2 pointsI use 5w-40 diesel oil in just about everything, one real advantage is the synthetic oils ability to transfer heat. And of course we are talking about air cooled engines. That oil is top of the line and will out preform just about anything out there. Most thoughts are built on old school thinking and not science. Part of my old job was closely tied to lubrication and we had a lot of sensors gathering data around the clock. Synthetic oils lowered internal temps up to 20%, at the first oil change. You have to remember those old service manuals were written over 30 years ago. Oil has come a long way since then, and if you want to use it, It will be fine.
-
2 pointsI believe that the Rotella T1 was originally developed for use in diesel engines. It has a better extreme pressure additive package suitable for the higher bearing loads in compression ignition engines. When used in our antique Kohlers, and Onans, that same extreme pressure package helps protect our journal type crank and rod bearings and the non roller lifters and cam shaft. These surfaces have largely sliding type of friction. The current automotive engine oils are designed for tighter crank and rod bearings clearances - often with special coatings - and roller lifters running on the cam. All of these features are efforts to reduce friction and increase fuel efficiency, which, was not a concern when our antiques were designed and built.
-
2 pointsI have used 15w-40 in some of my kohler in the summer and they seemed to do fine with it.
