8 pointsI figured this group might a good source of information since we have an appreciation of old metal with patina. My Son In-law gave me this relic he found while doing demo on an old house and barn he bought. Does anyone here have any interesting insights on this 5-gallon milk can?

8 pointsPrepare to be WH amazed. If it's WH, it'll be there. And hang out for the ice cream social and cruise night Fri evening. Time will go by so fast that you'll think you time traveled and missed a day somewhere so try to soak it all in. I'm fairly easy to find if you see the bike, so stop and say hello. Your welcome to take it for a spin too. What all is needed when I arrive there? Nothing except you're expected to have a good time. Park and enter the area. Is there a fee? Nope But as mentioned it's always a good idea to join the WHCC. I’d like to bring my 1257 to ride around on, maybe. Definitely bring it. It doesn't need to be a trailer queen resto and most tractors there are workers. I’d also like to try and meet most of the good people from this forum but I only know user names, is there a spot “red square” usually has? Spread all over but you'll be able to run into many I look forward to the show and see all the stuff and tractors. Bet you won't be able to see it ALL I’ll be there Friday and then go back to the hotel and then come back Saturday. Hopefully that’s ok. Absolutely. No admission, no tickets no nonsense. Park and walk or ride right in.

7 pointsIf anyone is interested in learning about a really complicated surgery involving replaccing an Aortic arch completely with a Dacron unit. Look that one up its called Frozen ElephantsTrunk repair, its pretty wild. I got this done as a re-do from an aortic root dilation repair from about 3 years ago. Spent a week in Maine Med in Portland. The Malone tower has really great staff and Dr Rosu was great. Now it's time for some rehab, again...

7 pointsThanks to the dimensional info from ebinmaine and the information previously posted by others I've made some progress on fabricating the grader blade components. Other than the block that the lift arm connects to on the main support arm, it's ready to weld together. The blade itself has previously been fabricated. I'm currently waiting on the plate that bolts to the blade, I'm having it bent to shape in a fab shop close by. After that I'll mill the three slots and make the pivot pin. I'm sure the lift arm won't be exactly like an original, but it should be close enough to function.

7 pointsGood idea Richard but most of mine are picked up out in the woods making firewood. It's been suggested to duct tape pant legs to boots but that doesn't really work they just crawl over it but yeah spray your legs and boots down with deep woods off or the like. Best thing to do is check the missus all over in the shower at nite for them ... I got nailed three time by deer ticks ... yep the nasty lyme ones... and they left nasty scars. No pics Sylvia's visuals.

6 pointsCan you please grab me 2 pulled porks and a bag of ice while you're up there?

6 pointsI’m usually along the back wall of the exhibition building. However this year I might just bring stuff to sell? But you can find me walking around talking nonstop about Wheel Horse Tractors. Oh wait, that doesn’t really narrow it down to much now does it? That could be most of us here on RS ! Or how about this? That’s me on the right with my Work Horse GT-1800 and on the left is the guy that makes the show, the Master of Ceremonies Wild Bill Pearson.

5 points1st time I've seen someone have that break! Might be a good time to change to a home made foot control.

4 pointsAs many of you know, Verizon is the big winner at the South Mountain Fairgrounds. For those of you who have any phone on the AT&T network, you are 99% sh!t out of luck. Those carriers include, but are not limited to: Cricket Wireless Consumer Cellular Boost Mobile H2O Wireless PureTalk Red Pocket Mobile US Mobile (under their "Dark Star" network option) Good2Go Mobile FreeUP Mobile FreedomPop As of last year, T-Mobile did not work either. According Wallfish T-Mobile is okay. There may be more. Verizon service is excellent. Other members may chime with what works for them. I personally have a dual SIM phone. My main system is Consumer Cellular (AT&T), but the other SIM is Tracfone (Verizon). For many years I just bought a burner on Verizon and forwarded all my calls to it before I reached the fairgrounds.

4 pointsT Mobile works there. Not sure I if can stream Pullstart videos but calls text and emails are fine.

4 pointsDid you ever have tests done? In the late seventies after Lyme disease was discovered, I was tested positive but when I took the next level test, it showed negative. This was ten years after I was bitten and the medical community was very reluctant to diagnose or treat for Lyme disease. Having experienced all the symptoms both physical and mental I certainly understand how the disease can be crippling or even fatal. So sorry your daughter had to suffer this disease. I think I was lucky to have a strong enough immune system to fight off the effects of the disease. When my immune system was struggling to fight off the flu, colds, and my recent blood loss, the lyme symptoms always come back. Over the years, I was tested 6 times with 3 positives. Due to fatigue, joint pain, and shortness of breath, I had full blood test, chest x-rays, and lyme disease tests last week. All showed negative, so I visit the cardio guru on Tuesday. Guessing stents may be on the menu.

4 pointsSo as I understand it, the Church group that runs the concession never told the Wheel Horse club that the Lions Club owned all the equipment in the kitchen and that they have been charging rent of about $1500 per show to use it. The WHCC arranged to have them move up to the pit beef/dining hall which up and to the right of @c-series don building.

4 pointsThe lids on milk cans did not twist to open, they were hammered down and hammered off. Could have been a cream can for dairies that separated the cream, but I'm not too sure I ever heard of the Sinclair dairy. Guess the milked dinosaurs.

4 pointsI'm with @rmaynard. Ellisco was in the oil can business. https://www.ebay.com/itm/117140017505 https://www.ebay.com/itm/377047761911 Brief history. Ellisco oil cans were produced by George D. Ellis & Sons Inc. of Philadelphia, a company founded in 1843, with the "Ellisco" mark used starting in 1920. Known for durable 5-gallon galvanized, often fluted (ribbed) metal cans, they were staples in the 1920s–1930s for distributing fuel and oil to farms, businesses, and early service stations.
-
4 pointsBeing in the hobby of hunting and collecting oil cans, an item like this shows up occasionally. However, it's always been described as an oil can. I did see one in a shop in Pennsylvania. painted red and with a price tag of over $100.00.

4 pointsWheel Horse garden tractors were not matched with a deck when shipped, you bought the tractor and chose a deck at time of purchase/order. The 6" wheels were/are required when the tractor is equipped with the 37" cutting deck. The 37" deck has two blades with the left blade offset to the front causing interference with the 8" left front tire on sharp left turns. The lower horsepower rated tractors were more apt to be purchased with the 37" deck than the 14 horsepower and up units. Now why in the world my 1990 416H tractor was factory equipped with 6" wheels is a mystery to me.
-
3 pointsI know a lot of members here run V61's on there tractors but I don't recall anyone mentioning that the mule drive can interfere with turning. I couldn't turn left fully without rubbing on te mule drive. So i added a 1/2" collar on the spindle two machine washers and then inserted a bushing inside the rim along with a longer bolt and problem solved. However for those running newer machines that use a snap ring in place of a bolt this would not be a viable solution.

3 pointsI hate to go all "Captain Obvious" here but the strength of spray is regulated easily by backing away from the item being sprayed. Too much gumption? Move back a feet or three...

3 pointsBy the time I was finished dialing, I'd have forgotten who I was calling.

3 pointsYup AT & T and Consumer Cellular. The double whammy. Randy has Verizon I think so I can borrow his phone unless I need to call him I had a Trac Phone years ago. My B-I-L bought a new shop and had Verizon Installed there. He couldn't call anyone on his phone but I could on my $19.95 special! They have been laying cables for almost a year now in the hospital since University of Rochester moved in. We have 3 Wi fi box gizmo's just in the shop alone. I'm telling everyone they have camera's in them to spy on us so now they are all paranoid!
-
3 pointsAgreed. I'm looking forward to seeing your completed project.
-
3 pointsYou are so right! Problem was that I’d brought only fixed-size wrenches out to the garage thinking “this’ll be a short job” so I needed an extra hike back down to the basement shop to get “the weapon.” Lesson learned.
-
3 pointsAlways do. Actually I feel like this step may have been missed by a p/o. The head bolts were snug at best. Took nothing to break them free. The spark plug was in tighter. Granted 25-30 ft-lbs isn’t quite a lot but still I was expecting more than snug.

3 pointsI hose myself down with bug spray that's 40% DEET anytime I'm working out in the yard. I buy it at Home Depot.
-
3 pointsInteresting. I happen to have a vintage cast iron milking stool and an actual vintage milk can laying around in my garage ...
-
3 pointsThanks Bob. That means old coots like me will have to walk farther! It may also cut in on the Connecticut Salad Dressing Expo and Lounge under the Pavilion. The good news is there's more shade there for those standing in line.

3 pointsWhen deer get ticks on them they will brush up against bushes or trees to get rid of them and can get on you while you are just walking by the bush.

3 pointsI would guess that disassembly and reassembly will take more time than the cleanup and welding. Here is an intact control arm for reference. You might just choose to pick up a replacement depending on what you find when you look at the rest of it but it shouldn't be a catastrophic failure IMO.

2 pointsA couple of things to remember. RedSquare and the Wheel Horse Collectors Club are two separate organizations. WHCC runs the show. RedSquare is just a participant. However, some RedSquare members are on the staff of the WHCC and the show would be very different without them. No tractors other than Wheel Horse are allowed on the premises. No charge to get in. Camping on site is allowed at a fee. The food concession is no longer in the same building this year but I'm sure everyone will find it.
-
2 pointsI saw that several were listed as oil/gas cans, but ChatGTP argued that they were often re-purposed as such but were originally for dairy, The fact that it was painted red leads me to believe it is indeed for oil or fuel.
