14 pointsThat is exactly it @ineedanother! Thank you! I don’t think we’ve heard from @johnnymag3 in quite a while here? And yes, as I remember that Eddie Murphy tractor is in very good condition. So is @Ike’s 130hr 418. I think there was some movement in the zipper area of my pants when I read 130hrs! I’d like to see more photos of both of them. Maybe someday I can put one of them in with my 400 series?

13 pointsAfter machining the C series Axle for bushings, the worn spots at the outer ends of the spindles needed to be addressed. My son TIG welded the worn areas up using a Silicon Bronze filler rod while I had to figure out the fixturing to allow cutting using the Boring Head in the Milling Machine. Rough alignment was done using a square collet block in the vise & a split sleeve in my 1" endmill holder. Final tweaking using the dial indicator. Cut the weld to within .002 of the finished size & hand filed the remainder to get a snug bearing race fit.... A tedious setup, but beats hand filing the whole thing...

11 pointsI've talked about having a black hood for years, and periodically picked up parts for just such a thing over a long while. Also, I just don't know how to have one project at a time. This will be tinkered on along side my long-lived 701 project. I have enough to get started, and the tire/ wheel combination was one part of the puzzle that I've at least solved. I'll be using another brand front axle with 1 inch spindles and 4 bolt trailer hubs with very wide front tires because I likes em wide... The engine choice is still not confirmed but I am of course leaning towards another Vanguard 14. I have a Magnum 20 that was disassembled by the PO for a completely wrong reason but I'm just not sure if I want to dive into that rabbit hole yet or not. I have options either way. I still have a few parts to pick up, and as always my stuff changes faster than my 3 daughters change outfits... The first wheel and tire got painted, so 3 more to go in the next week or so. My frame, transmission and sheetmetal are pretty typical for tractors in the south, meaning they have a generous coat of rust and faded paint to work through. But anyway, this thread might last a long time but it's finally started.

11 pointsThe other night I decided to make a pixel art style crochet square of the horse head logo. This is how it turned out. If there is an interest in them I could make more to sell. It is about 12 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches.

10 pointsMarch 5, 1963: the Hula Hoop, a hip-swiveling toy that became a huge fad across America when it was first marketed by Wham-O in 1958, is patented by the company’s co-founder, Arthur “Spud” Melin. An estimated 25 million Hula Hoops were sold in its first four months of production alone. In 1948, friends Arthur Melin and Richard Knerr founded a company in California to sell a slingshot they created to shoot meat up to falcons they used for hunting. The company’s name, Wham-O, came from the sound the slingshots supposedly made. Wham-O eventually branched out from slingshots, selling boomerangs and other sporting goods. Its first hit toy, a flying plastic disc known as the Frisbee, debuted in 1957. The Frisbee was originally marketed under a different name, the Pluto Platter, in an effort to capitalize on America’s fascination with UFOs. Melin and Knerr were inspired to develop the Hula Hoop after they saw a wooden hoop that Australian children twirled around their waists during gym class. Wham-O began producing a plastic version of the hoop, dubbed “Hula” after the hip-gyrating Hawaiian dance of the same name, and demonstrating it on Southern California playgrounds. Hula Hoop mania took off from there.

9 pointsMy wife loves critters of all kinds. Because of that, I decided years ago to preemptively make a plan for all my toys: I told her for every tractor I get, she gets another pet. Seemed great until I realized that feeding and housing animals is typically far more expensive than tractors... Clearly I failed to think this through. We now live on a farm with a donkey, 5 pygmie goats, 4 dogs, and 3 cats. Of course this is a fluid list that changes regularly. Usually increasing more than not. I have 8 Wheel Horses. I'm thinking that somehow my original "deal" has been incorrectly applied here... I know, just get more tractors. We'll see I guess.

9 pointsI got it cleaned up and ready for driveway duty, Tire and wheel upgraded helped. 1975 D-200

8 pointsI went the other way KP ... told her I would sell four tractors for a couple a lousy chickens. Ended up selling and no chickens yet.

7 pointsIf we partner with your wife on the insurance policy, we’ll could be the ones buying more tractors
-
7 pointsLet me be perfectly clear. My wife is going to want to kill me if/when I buy another tractor! 🤣
-
6 pointsChewing the fat at Zagray getting instructions on how to start one of Mikes tractors. After a full explanation I still couldn't figure it out. Don't ever try to steal a MODERATORS tractor. Happy Birthday Bro
-
6 pointsMy wife's reaction when I say I am buying another tractor. Yep,full Thermonuclear meltdown. But hey,I am a man and I ain't scared!! Well, not to scared.

5 pointsFinally got a chance to look at the 520H I brought home a week or so ago. Took breather off and safe to say PO probably hadn’t done to much preventative matainence. Taped throat up on carb and got rid of the big chuncks. Threw battery on and fired right up but has to have just a hint of choke on to not have a surge. All gauges and idiot lights seem to work but voltmeter shows just a little under 12 volts and when you unhook ground on battery it dies? Thought I would try some B12 in fuel before getting to serious on carb rebuild, might get lucky might but doubt it. Did drive around for a little while and man does that twin flat head hum no smoke knocks or weird nosies and has plenty of power. Trans seems good and stout but wants to creep backwards.

5 pointsThe seat on my D series is kinda like a big comfy couch. Oh wait, you said stock seat. I'm sorry.

5 pointsI've set up my scale model building desk right in the living room very much on purpose. Too cold/hot/dark/raining etc... I can work on whatever builds is/are happening... year round.
-
5 pointsI think it's a tie between you and Pullstart for the widest front tires on a Wheelhorse
-
5 pointsYeah I really like the tread pattern on these, and plan to use them on the back as well. I doubt these would even hook up on the bead without tubes on standard 8 inch front wheels. If I remember what you told me previously, many 8 inch wheels on the later machines were something like 5 and 3/8 wide. I had some 8x7 wheels to work with, so that's why I chose the 16x8.50-8 size. I'm hoping wide wheels and tires will look good with the huge hood on this style tractor. Might take some time but we're gonna find out!

4 pointsA few years ago someone here posted that they had (if I remember correctly) a 418? that belonged to Eddie Murphy, yes that Eddie Murphy. It was not for sale, the gentleman wanted to hold onto it. Now I’m not exactly in the position to buy another tractor right now, but I have a 418-8 and a 418-C so to complete the 418’s a 418-A would be nice. I was just wondering if anyone remembers who that was that posted that? And if in fact it was a 418-A? If so and it were ever to come up for sale I might be interested in it. As I remember it was in very good condition and given its history it would be cool to add to my collection.

4 pointsLynn, you've given me an idea for some more clubs! Stuck Hub Stuck Steering Wheel Stuck Hitch Pin No Balance Gears Patina and many more...

4 pointsHow many hours are on the tractor? It may be due or overdue for a valve adjustment. If it has over 750 hours on it then adjusting the valves is due and doing that will have you pulling the exhaust and intake which is a good time to do a carburetor cleaning and some other needed maintenance. Do not continue to run the engine hard with a lean mixture caused by a dirty carburetor unless you want to join the loose valve seat club. Let us know if you want to do a proper valve adjustment and carburetor cleaning and we can outline the needed work.

4 pointsYes that's the man, I've done some business with him. All of his tractors are meticulously maintained. The 418-A was Eddie Murphy's tractor, yes that Eddie Murphy. He met Eddie and bought the tractor from him. He has more than one 418-A, I'm not sure if he's interested in selling them. Darb.

4 pointsYes. Sometimes I use rubbing alcohol and a few drops of black India ink with a drop or two of liquid dish soap to help break surface tension. I have used thinned black paint from the small bottles Walmart sells. Often times, the guys who know what they are doing, use chalk to streak below windows and represent rust down sides of buildings--and I may try something like that this time. I think they spray it with clear matt sealer to keep the chalk from getting disturbed. The ink and paint fill in the depressions helping give contrast. Below is a train tunnel. The brick are the same foam board the building is made from. I used a wash over the brick and the mountain the tone down the brighter colors. The white that represents sunlight is white paint dry brushed to give it highlights. Grass is greening up and I've spot mowed this week after I did my annual check up of the mowers. I'll likely spend less and less time on the building as warmer weather arrives. It will likely be next winter before I complete itl

3 pointsMy grandparents and most of thier generation certainly were thinner. Probably because every bite they got involved quite a bit more work than nowadays. They canned, caught, or cured everything they ate.
-
3 pointsMy favorite part about 4-H. Most every activity was at least 2 girls for every guy. The odds were ever in your favor.
-
3 pointsOn non-magneto tractors, the battery powers the coil for ignition. The current goes out of the battery via the “red” wires and to the coil. If you disconnect the battery ground, those poor little volts cannot find their way home to complete the circuit!
-
3 pointsA neighbor had a patch only about 40x40 (courtesy of an across-the-fence neigbor). He cut it back to about 6” high and then used a syringe to inject Round Up into each and every hollow stem at one week intervals for a month. Took about 90 minutes each session, but it didn’t come back the next year or since. The neighbor had pros come in to dig it up and sterilize the soil on their side!
-
3 pointsA few pics for you. The 520's seem to be the most abused of ALL WH tractors out there. Why. I have no idea. Keep at it, you will get there.

3 pointshttps://www.thenandnowautomotive.com/antique-auto-parts-store/Kohler-Fuel-Pump-Kits-c196218002 Sorry but for less money you can buy a Carbole electric pump which many people here have used and never have to worry about gas in t crankcase again. If you want to spend a bit more get a made in USA Facet posiflo.

3 pointsGot a little more work done on model railroad building. Painted each and every brick. The colors are a bit bright for a abandoned building but will darken when I do some weathering. I think I spent about 8 hours painting bricks. Still a long way before completion.
-
3 pointsBecause I'm adding two rear sections of the tank together there was a gap at the very back bottom of the trailer. I used sheet styrene to fill the area. Two small pieces for the sides and a larger section in the middle.
-
3 pointsGot the spare tire holders painted. I left them a little rough because I'll be adding a "mud" colored layer. This model will be slightly weathered. ************************************************ Also did some wet sanding on the tank surface. Gotta say... very impressive! In this pic you can see the gray areas where the uneven surfaces were/are. While I don't need this to be glass smooth - I'm having fun experimenting with the primer and its capabilities. It'll get another several thin coats when the wind calms. Then in a day or three another sanding.

2 pointsI’ve heard of people eating or drinking things during a fast, but still fasting. This helps explain the difference between clean and dirty fasts. To think that removing food to get to autophagy, or body repair, is mind boggling.
-
2 pointsOn this trailer model there was a bent/broken spare tire holder. I separated the pieces, made a "shop repair" and glued them together. After gray paint I think it'll look good.
