Back in 2009 I installed a Modine 45,000 BTU Hot Dawg LP heater in the garage. Only time it got used was in the Fall / Winter when a tractor needed to come in for whatever to be out of the elements. In 2024 I bought another one for the shop, a 30,000 sealed combustion type , same brand with a Summer switch as well. Finally this past fall I installed it. When I was working full time I just didn't have the time to do it but always wanted a heated shop like I had at my last residence. I have been out there for the past month sorting, rearranging and throwing things out, etc, etc. I also added another workbench, just need to paint it in the Spring. I built the bench so I could get a WH under it on one end and made a brace back to the 6x6 PT post. Really enjoying my time spent out there and finding parts everywhere. Trying to label everything and find a home for it. Been on average 20 degrees out there upon entrance and climbing to 60 degrees within 35 minutes. Shop is 12' x 22. Searching on McMaster Carr for rubber mat for the floor. That opened up a can of worms, a LOT to choose from. Probably do that in the Fall. Also, on the back wall I framed an opening and installed a Friedrich 8000 BTU A/C unit.Still a bit to go but nice to get organized again.

I recently did a little clean up and painting in my basement which required rearranging a few tractors. So I figured I’d snap a few pictures for you boys!! You can see the doorway that I bring the tractors through in the back of the first and second picture. The ramps to get up the stairs are under the tractors in the last picture. Unfortunately the opening is not wide enough to get tractors with the wide rims and 23x10.50’s on them. I’d love to put my LSE and Work Horse down there but I’d have to switch tires just to do that. That’s too much work and then I feel like they would never come back out.

I finally got back in touch with his wife, he's only got a flip phone, and she just charged it this morning. So, I was able to talk with her. He's unfortunately back in the hospital on an unrelated issue. They have him all fixed up again, and he's headed to rehab on Monday. The last few weeks have taken their toll on his strength, so this is to get back on his feet and walking. She says he's in great spirits and can't wait to get back here to the forum and all his Wheel Horse friends. So, keep praying for his recovery.

Hey there , after a few years of lurking and finding a great wealth of knowledge here , I signed up lol. Great people and intel on here , thanks for all you've helped me with so far without even knowing !! A friend got me into the hobby a few years ago and I ended up getting the bug. I have a few projects at the moment , but my pride and joy is my mowing unit , a 1974 C100 with a 16hp swapped , outfitted to mow and bag with a 37" (?) side discharge deck. Had a few others in and out for accessories , but the rest of my stable includes a 604 I stuck a 8hp in and made it pull start and put a plow on. That one will be getting different tires , a weight mount , etc. A B80 I am in the process of making mid-mount with a 4hp Yanmar diesel and still be able to mow. A clean C160 auto that donated the 16hp to my mower , and another C160 auto that's a bit beat that will be a donor for engine and hydraulics to the clean C160. Only a few tractors but plenty to do haha !! Hopefully I'll 'finish' one of these projects this year !! But my C100 is pretty much there minus maybe sealing the patina and going through the mower deck. Looking forward to being here more and browsing through everything !!

Didn't get much snow overnight but had some wind so driveway was drifted in a bit. Used the 702 to clean up & now its thawing in garage. 6° outside but its 68° in garage

You’ve found the right place to discuss your addiction! Lots of us here with multiple tractors and multiple projects in the wings. We also have a few members here with just one tractor..those guys are weird …but we let em hang out just the same!

Stumbled on this while looking up flat rate prices. Does this mean we get a discount on shipping horse parts?

Walked in the ole corn crib this morning and it was 7f. Wood stove & the kerosene torpedo heater got er up to 70f in about 3hrs. All this so I can get some painting done.

Was gonna work on the dozer blade & install the new tire chains + NOS seat bracket but the wind is strong enough to blow me over. 416H is in the driveway. Monday is another day. 312-8 has Armstrong rear tires. Dry rotted some, but I like em. New tubes & 90 degree valve extensions. Went to Harbor Freight for a concrete grinding disc & the tire changer. Saw these black self adhesive step mats. New foot rests for the 416H. Will tarp her & put a 500 watt cage light under the tarp to warm her up. Probably add weather strip adhesive to em.

We got 4-6 " on the overnight, still coming down.Once it stops, I'll plow. 3 of my Grandsons were here for Sat.night, but due to the snow they will be here another night. Not a bad thing!

Hey Don , how about a picture of you wheeling around the basement on the pedal tractor. I'm sure your wife wouldn't mind taking the picture with Lucy shaking her head while she observes. I'm sure they have seen it all at this stage of the game.@c-series don

Got some snow today. Probably now about 3” but still really windy so I expect some drifts. Monday will be final cleanup day since it’s going to be real windy tonight and all day tommorow. IMG_1540.mov

I heat mine to 50 and keep it there, I so no difference in the electric bill vs going cold to warm. Do a couple weld jobs in a month and the cost of heating the shop is insignificant. It is nice to walk in and everything is not cold as ice and I can jump right in.

Same here but up to 3°. Had to go out and clear the snow that blew into the air intake for the water heater. Noticed rotten egg smell and I tried to blame it on Dog Gas but they both said they are innocent. No coal. Nat. Gas flowing thru the Airtemp 98%er!

Keeping the trails open somewhat and of course the driveway. Would not want to be doing this without a cab this Winter. Can-Am Defender joining in on the fun. Have not put the plow on that yet. Very nice Sunsets this year as well.

Working on getting my modeling desk set up. I got the lighter gray cutting bed/ work surface today. That's 36" wide x 24" deep. There'll be another set of two narrow metal shelves on top of the white pvc shelf. Then another pvc shelf above those. Basically doubling what's on top of the desk surface now. I also have several more organizing tools coming. Paint rack. Parts racks. Cubby hole shelves for small & medium tools. Possibly also a divider tray. The kit on the lower left will be relocated, and the Dremel tool set currently at top right will be on the desk surface off to the side somewhere.

My garage is 12' X 24' and I heat it with a 24,000 BTU Empire Direct Vent Propane wall heater. R11 insulation in the ceiling and walls. It's 3° with the chill at -15°. I put the t stat on the lowest setting last night and it was 40° in there this afternoon when I needed to go out and get something. I only run the heat when I'm out there or like now when they predicted 6" of snow or more and I wanted the loader oil warmed up just in case. There was a window in the back wall to a smaller uninsulated shop but I took that out years ago and installed an 18,000 BTU Carrier window shaker running R22 that I got from my brother's printing shop. I only run that if it's a zillion ° outside.

Picture #1 - Blue arrow is the fuel bowl vent. This allows atmospheric pressure to act on the fuel level in the bowl (filtered air) , without it the carburetor can't work as it becomes vapor locked and cant draw fuel through the main fuel pickup. (the long needle through the middle) That bowl vent can leak fuel or seep a bit as fuel vapor can condense in that area typically as a hot engine is cooling down... and can leak as fuel sloshes around in the bowl, or the float needle leaks, etc. Yellow arrow is the idle air bleed that allows air and fuel to mix in the idle mixing chamber before being pulled into the intake side As is the red arrow (which is in play when the choke is closed mainly) Picture #2 is the idle ports set - They are in a series of ports that are controlled by the position of the throttle plate - at idle (and high idle/ top no load) the majority of fuel is coming through these little jets - as the throttle opens , more jets are uncovered allowing more fuel/air to get to the engine (Idle transition ports) until carburetor can start drawing fuel through the main jet at the middle. The various holes in the combination main jet/ emulsion tube actually pick up fuel and distribute it through more holes to feed the idle circuit and provide fuel through main jet (the holes help to break up and atomize the fuel as it is drawn through main jet at higher speeds and under load) Simplistic explanation without having a cutaway to explain the fuel flow (Kohler manual doesn't detail those very well for the Carter carb version you have pictured, but does better with explaining the Walbro version, which has a lot of similarities, just in different places) If you understand first how air is flowing through the carb it becomes easier to envision what is going on with fuel flow through the ports and passages - when throttle is mostly closed, the air flow through the main venturi is not enough to pull fuel through main jet , so the throttle plate gap over the idle jets becomes the venturi , in effect... once throttle opens further, air flow through venturi does the lion's share of duty...

IMHO.... it won't matter for FUNCTION. We've tried a bunch of different tires & tractors & setups over the years. They all work fine - given the correct set up. So go for looks. Personally I prefer a wider tire for two reasons. 1. I like the aesthetics. To me, a wider tire looks better. 2. The FUNCTIONAL part... a wider tire can hold more fluid. More fluid is more weight is more traction. My experience shows me that you NEED to separate the chore list here by way of proper preparation. For snow ❄️ an AG tires is not the best choice. Functional. But not ideal because the chains will set down in between the tire bars. This I've never done. Perhaps @Pullstart @Achto or @WHX?? can answer.

I like the 2k primer that gassing problem goes away. my bad and this one I don't know if you ever tried this on single stage paint, I like putting two coats of clear enamel on as two final coat of color. Apply 10 minutes or so after the last color coat. It can be buffed and adds UV protection too. Only available in spray cans tho.

@WHX?? I’m still on the hunt for a PTO-66. I have absolutely zero use for one of those but being a WH collector and considering the rarity of those units it’s something I’d like to add to my collection. There’s a good video on YouTube of a guy running a grain elevator with one of them.

My kids do the same when I sit on a project machine. And it took literally years to train my wife to stop calling my Wheel Horses "lawnmowers"... She now says garden tractor. But probably says lawnmower to everyone else when I'm in the garage...

Got the 523H out to play in the snow. She kept staring over the fence at the cows... No way my other tractors would have driven so well. Those ATV rear tires and fat floaty fronts did very well in the deeper spots.

Plus some other stuff in your garage with the over spay dust too! Nice Job!! All you do on your stuff is a real restore compared to just a simple spray bomb job on some of the sheet metal with new decals then call it "restored".

Workshop space is looking great Jim! For those floor mats we went to TSC and got horse stall mats. Very reasonable prices but they're not as soft and fluffy as a standard expensive people floor mat. Horse mats will likely outlive the building though...

Got bundled up to walk down to the barn in the back ground. Driveway down has significant drifting./ Already feels hard. Will have to use the blower but wind continues tomorrow so may wait until Monday. It is 15 degrees in the shop where she is parked....

Used this crane last spring to lift and place six 350 pound blocks of concrete for a dock anchor. Planning on the same job again this spring on another dock. Worked perfectly and no strain on my back. Then mounted in my trailer to move a recliner I purchased. It is worth every penny of the $200 it cost at HD.

For moldboard ploughing a narrower tire will ultimately work better, because you aren't looking for floatation you want traction. Something to remember though is if you are getting Deestone ags or BKT ags you will actually want to get the 10.5 size because the tires are not actually 10.5" wide they are more like 8.5-9" real width. But if I was getting Carlisle Tru Powers I would get a 8.5" width tire as it runs fairly true to size. I believe the OTR Lawn Tracs are the same way. I have had decent luck pushing snow with ags without chains, and again the narrower size should do better. But like Ebinmaine said a AG tire is not the best choice. If you only ever push 2-3 inches of snow on fairly flat ground you can probably get away with it. More then that you will really struggle to push. Farm duties absolutely either size will be fine. Mowing I mean probably not the ideal tire for it, if you don't have a pristine lawn and don't care about having one it will work, I have done it myself.

I've used various types of clear coat, both single-stage and catalyzed, for a variety of projects, mostly automotive. It is a good way to add some smoothness, gloss, and depth to the finish, as well as some extra UV resistance, as you mentioned. 2K primer is nice, since its rapid cure avoids off-gassing or softening the topcoat, which can happen with single-stage primers that are not completely dry/cured. I didn't see any bubbles in the red paint, so I don't think there was any off-gassing from the primer, but rather just enough residual solvent in the primer to soften the red paint and cause it to wrinkle and warp a bit in places. In this case, I was in too big of a hurry to apply the red paint over the single-stage primer before the primer was hard and dry enough. I used two different primers on this fender, since I ran out of one type, and the second primer that I used in a few places was a slower drying type. I should have tested all of the spots where I used that primer for hardness before painting. As mentioned, I just needed to be more patient. It shouldn't take much to sand those spots, since they affect only a small portion of the area of the fender, but it's a delay that could have been avoided. It recalls the old saying, "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get."
