As a Senior Citizen it is my obligation to keep the medical employed. After four days in the hospital I am now home and well, God is good. Details to follow.

Reminds me of driving in my first snowstorm. I was heading to the gas station in my pickup with no weight in the bed, thought I’d impress my friend in the passenger seat. Gave it a little gas, thought I’d drift around in bend in the road but lost control. Slid across the oncoming lane (thank goodness nobody was coming!) hit the telephone pole with the passenger door. We didn’t get hurt, we were probably only going 15-20 mph. So I drove back home and went in the house. First thing my dad says is we have no power in the house. Then he said, and this is the part I’ll never forget “ First snowstorm of the year and our power is out. I’ll bet some A hole hit a pole and knocked out the power!” I then had to sheepishly admit it was me!

Ooooooooooo, Me likes model building! Did tons of those kits when we were kids. Not sure how we survived sucking in all of that nasty glue vapor. Then somehow got started with doing originals like this one. (For those that may not have seen this before)

I found this from an Aries and it has the same Welch Style connector with a roller pin setup. It's local for sale. I'm going to see how this look...hope not too funny but if it functions for me, may be worth it? I'll send some pics after.

You mean to tell me @Pullstart isn't obligated to keep the medical field pushing ahead with medical advancements? I just wish our hospital would get rid of the guy in charge of purchasing so we can get a boiler fixed before we actually have to have it!

So sorry Joe. Listen to what your body is telling you. 11 yrs. ago I started getting acid reflux after eating out for my wife's birthday. I never get acid reflux so I let it pass. 3 days later I'm at work and start getting it again. Plus I'm really feeling crummy. I had gotten a flu shot the same day I started having issues. I thought I was coming down with the flu. I went home at noon. Had to pick up an item at a friends house. On the way back as I was stopping for an intersection, both of my hands fell off the steering wheel. I managed to drive the remaining half mile home. Told my wife what happened and she called my doctor. He says get to the hospital. One blood test showed a marker for a heart attack. I get shipped to the city for an angioplasty. I had the "Widow Maker LAD blockage and got 2 stents. At work with other guys if I get tired I stop. If any of the young guys say anything I tell them they will most likely be in the same boat someday. I fix stuff with what I know. I tell them push that or turn that. My hero days are behind me.

Where I used to live all we needed was snow forecast for a few days out and someone would be kind enough to take out the pole across the street, and our power with it.

Seat pivot brackets and bushings ready to install. Seat pivot plate ready for pivot brackets to be installed. Seat pivot bracket with bolt and washers slid on. I add a washer to the inside to space the bracket out slightly so it does not rub on the pivot plate. Seat pivot bracket bushing greased with silicone grease and installed into pivot plate. Right seat pivot bracket and bushing installed. Left seat pivot bracket and bushing installed. Seat pivot bracket bolts torqued to 200 in/lb.

I just talked with Richard's wife, and she says he's fine and should be home later today. I'm not going to elaborate any more than that. That will be up to Richard. He's doing well and we'll hear from him soon I'm sure of that!

Finally getting back to some work on my 522xi. About a week or so ago I feathered, primed, and sanded all of the rusty and flaky spots on the fender, and then re-primed and re-sanded it. Here it is in progress: I spent most of the past few days trying to learn the basics of Blender software (any Blender users here?), which has a considerable learning curve that makes my brain hurt a bit, so I needed to take a break today. This afternoon I painted the underside of the fender. I'll let it cure for a few days before flipping it over and painting the top. I hope to put it back together and get the snowblower installed in time for spring.

Who cares as long as it works for you. Changing the wheel is your best bet and it can always be changed back. The biggest challenge is going to be getting that original steering wheel off the shaft.
  17. 3 points
The original Kelch 3 spoke steering wheel on my C81 broke at the hub while in use a couple of years back. Seems to be a common problem with the overmolded plastic cracking and spreading off the hex shaped hub... My solution was to use a 2 piece adapter machined to fit the Classic Aftermarket line of Grant Industries Steering Wheels (mine kind of looks like the 420LSE one) These wheels come in many diameters and dish depth.... deeper dish raises the rim.

I have a set of 4 link V bar chains that you can have. They were on 23-9.5-12 AG tires. I switched to rubber chains and turf tires because the V bars were too rough on my asphalt drive. I live about an hour north of you in Walled Lake Michigan

OK. I'm in mentor mode now with the robotics team. Gotta ask how well you think that worked out? The next question is what did you learn?

@Beap52 I seem to be the one in my family who now has all that kind of stuff. Other family members keep dropping off pictures, old newspaper clippings etc off and it’s driving my wife nuts! She keeps saying what are we going to do with all this stuff? And when are we going to properly sort it out and/or even look at it? I’m hoping to have a night with my relatives so we can look at old slides soon. Seems like it would be a nice way to spend a cold winter’s night.

I've been getting back into scale model building a bit. I started when I was 8 and did quite a lot for 5 or 6 years. After that I've been poking at them every few years since. For several decades I've been collecting and storing the future projects. I'll be keeping this thread as a record of what I'm up to. Please do feel free to post your own. One of the things I've wanted to build for many years is a model of what my Ole Man drove from back in the mid 1980s. Oil tankers that delivered #6 factory oil. 3 years ago this April I bought an IHC 4300 tractor by AMT and Testor's reissue of a 1960s tanker trailer. I got to measuring the trailer. It's designed to be built as either a single axle short tank or add the extension and use 2 axles to make a longer trailer. Still..... really not that long even for 1960s rigs. Then I got to wondering.... what if I had two trailer kits.... If the tank rear is meant to glue on either the front section separately or the rear section in combination - why can't I use a second kit for a rear extension?? So here's something neat. Look at the tank tops here. The left side is 8.25" long. The 2 right pieces are the back half of TWO trailer model kits. If I add the second back half to the first back half added to the front half ... It comes out to a scale model size of 21.5 inches total length. I remember pretty well that Bruce's oil trailers were 45 feet long. An odd length even back then. This model scale adds up to 44 feet and 10 inches!! This is the model kit of the tractor that I have. My Ole Man drove International S2500s. This is a 4300. Same basic shape but this model is a little longer nose. That was IHC's fancier road tractor back then. The 2500 series was the worker of the fleet. I'll take the chrome off the grill and only use one exhaust stack. The sleeper will be removed in favor of a large hydraulic pump. That basically turns it into an S model. I'd like to go weathered & worn. Never done one.... Tank will likely be a faded aluminum with stains. Internet find picture: This was one of several late 70s IHC S models that the company had. At least 2 were green on a red frame. That's what @Qball drove. Odds are almost 100% he drove THIS TRUCK. Stay tuned.....

For your original carbs, get the genuine rebuild kit from Kohler it's available on Amazon among other places just know that if it's a newer production it will have Rehlko on it I thought I got ripped off for minute until I realized that is Kohlers new name haha KOHLER 25 757 01-S Second is try to move the throttle shaft side to side all the way around and see how much play is there, if it's too loose you will need to install some bushings. This is not a option if you want a good running engine. Hillman Group 58087 Thrust Bearing, Bronze 1/4 X 7/16 X 1/16 You will need two of these as you will have to stack 2 on top of each other. If you are lucky you will have a removable ball stud assembly on the throttle shaft that you can remove to get the bushings in. If not you will have to remove the throttle plate. The brass screws on there are peened on the back side so you may have to grind away part of the screw with a Dremel prior to trying to remove them. I have been able to remove them without doing that, but its always a risk. Replacement screw size is #3-48 x 1/4" DO NOT reuse the original screws. You can either get brass screws again and peen them or get stainless screws with lock washer's and loctite.

I agree. Maybe put a normal fuel line clamp on so it’ll fit through the hole like it is supposed to or maybe make the hole bigger so you can use that hose clamp?
  28. 2 points
No, it'll run without it, but I'd find a way to bolt it back down. The hose on the back is a vacuum hose which runs your pump.

Just a bit of advice I got from an old welder / Blacksmith many years ago, and have made it a practice of mine: Get aggressive with your chipping hammer, while the bead is still cherry red, it works like a forging operation and adds strength to any weld. (Chipping hammers are not only for chipping off slag)

Small compressor and an air chisel might knock those heads off pretty quick too. If needed, maybe even grind a slot across them then chisel from each side to snap them off? Use the grinder to keep the chisel sharp too! Just spit balling again

@CD Long Jr good morning mr long ! you are very obviousely well on your way ! interesting that people talk about extra weight , load , with no thought of enhancing . helping that out ? https://www.google.com/search?q=Heavy+Duty+Anti+Vibration+Pads&mrq=1&mrqri=1&mrqei=0QJ-ab_3FoCB5OMPotzymAg&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj_o_2z8LWSAxWAAHkGHSKuHIMQyO0OKAF6BAhAEAY always used an isolation pad , prefer the dense , multi shallow holed types , add that to the pull hitch under trans extension , wedge it in there , make up a holding connection . that will consistently MINIMISE the loading to that TRANS CASTING , this type of pad also cuts easily with a recip saw . probably pick up odd piece at H/D cutting area . happy for you , pete

A balmy +7 here. I may have to venture out to bring in a trailer load of wood this morning.

Not to beat a dead horse, but you can add all the weight you want, if the tire isn't able to grip the surface well enough it won't do a lick of good. 500 lb man can't run any better on a sheet of ice than a 100 lb man can.

Kinda fun doin them ain't it? Do the other side right away and run two set screws. Heck do all your plow mules while yer at it! The full broach set was 200 and I got it with a coupon in the jungle for 100 . More it gets used the more it pays for itself. Did those spindles work?

In the past, I've posted pictures of my 1947 sedan delivery that I've owned since 1972. Here's a model that I put together probably 25 years ago. Actually the model's color is closer to original. I've owned it longer than I been married and that's been 48 years and two days. Not a model but scratch-build of my idea of a log cabin for my train layout. The cabin is built of foam board of the kind used on houses. Even the shingles on the roof is foam. The metal roof is aluminum foil that is rolled over the threads of a bolt to make corrugations and painted with primer.

I have an old motorcycle that was built before fork oil was a common product. The instructions were to use a 50-50 mix of ATF and motor oil, so I guess they mix just fine.

Might be difficult to drill if they just spin If grinding the slot doesn't work maybe grind an X into the heads and chisel / break them off. Probably more control and less heat than just grinding the entire heads all the way off .

Turn it on it's side and you can gut and clean roadkill... at the speeds these tractors achieve, it's a common problem...
