8 pointsWe have really been on a rollercoaster lately, with some blessings and gifts mixed in! My MIL’s cousin lives in Denver and her husband is dying of stage 4 prostate cancer. It’s an unfortunate situation, that they are actively planing for him to not be around. They have a 1998 diesel pusher RV with the 3126 CAT and 6 speed Allison. One slide out, and her mother purchased it new. It’s been meticulously maintained, and they have been trying to sell it. She wants to downsize to a travel trailer, something she can still camp in once he is gone. Though it needs nothing, has less than 100,000 miles, has new batteries and tires, and all the amenities of ‘98, their local dealers offered them $1,500 trade in on the coach. Bottom line, they’d rather give it to us than take that trade in cash. It’s winterized now, and will be waiting for us come spring. Whenever that is in the Rockies that is! They asked if we sell our current coach, to just give them that amount and it would be fair. I believe come spring, we might take it to the local auction house and let it roll.

8 pointsKarl @nylyon fixed it. My pics load again. Here is the swivel setup. Locks about every 30 degrees of rotation unless the handle is pulled.
-
7 pointsThis is my vote too. I'm wouldn't be one to try to clip it. When my two older brother were little, a large bee hive formed in the tree by the back porch. So my older brother waited till the younger brother was under it. He stood at the porch so he could run in the door and threw a ball at it when younger brother was under it. Needless to say younger brother got bit up by bees and older brothers rear end got bit up by a belt

7 pointsJust another sticker for the dumb asses, Why Joe, shouldn't we let them drive their snow plows into tall structures at high speed?
-
7 pointsYes, a 1967 to 1979 Volkswagen ignition coil will get the job done and any idiot at the local auto parts counter will be able to look it up, though you may need to tell them what color the VW is.

6 pointsThe best thing about National Homemade Bread Day might be the way it incorporates all your senses: the sweet, roasty comfort smell that lingers in the kitchen; the sight of steam rising from the top of the loaf, the warmth in your mouth, the taste of home when you take a bite, and the seemingly automatic “Mmmmm” that comes while you chew. Get baking November 17 to celebrate and break bread with your friends and family.

5 pointsHowdy! I found this site while looking for parts and literature for my Wheel Horse Classic 312Hydro. I will post pictures later as it is only half torn apart for cleaning and inspection. It was dead when I got it almost 2 years ago from a friend who was moving. He got it from a friend who was moving... 😁 So it sat in the back corner of the shop as an "get to it eventually" project. So, now it is the project to do .. 😁😁 So.... Cleaned the carb, installed new crankcase breather and substituted a 1/4" vacuum hose to connect to the air cleaner. She fired up and runs like a champ. Drive it around the yard and scared a couple mule deer. So anyway, waiting on a couple new belts and I will have pics of the complete machine. It came with a 42" rear discharge mower deck. Looking for plans or parts to build a snowplow for it. It has the hydraulic attachment lift installed, so I'm guessing I can run the 48" plow. Looking forward to using this beast. Joe

5 pointsActually, patina tractors look pretty good with new shoes!

5 pointsI know how I’d deal with that. I’d call my pest control guy and let him worry about how to safely remove them. I got stung once by one of those hornets and don’t want to ever experience that again. If removal goes wrong, it could go terribly wrong.

5 pointsWhen Toro acquired Wheel Horse in December of 1986 Ken Melrose was the Toro CEO. He wrote a book "Making the Grass Greener on Your Side" about his style of leading and guiding Toro through the times. In it he wrote about their thought process during the acquisition. He said they could have "Toroized" the product line but saw the value that Wheel Horse brought to the table and instead chose to let them stand alone in 87 and 88 so they could observe, understand and learn its uniqueness and value. Though not specifically mentioned, what they learned almost certainly contributed for them keep the line intact for another 20 years. With zero turns and throw away machines dominating the market it's easy to see why the party had to end financially.

4 pointsNever had any sort of reaction except two encounters. One with cicada killers that made me kind of blotchy. The other was when I was a young arborist. Removing a storm damaged silver maple. About 2 story house up and cut through hollow wood. Drenched in foul smelling water then a zillion honey bees boiled out. NOT happy. I got stung on every part of my body except kevlar boots and where my climbing saddle was. Got out of that tree quick. Guys called my lady and an ambulance because I wasn't making and sense and could not stand. Ambulance came. EpiPen benadryl (that junk makes my hair grow) and some chemicals sprayed from our truck and I finished the job. I had all but forgotten about that day. Thanks @kpinnc

4 pointsjust one nest I have seen the ways of clipping the branch, wrapping the nest in plastic of sorts and asphyxiating them. Brake clean, gasoline, etc. that would be cool man cave art to clear coat and hang up somewhere!
-
4 pointsOh, yeah! White faced hornets. VERY territorial & nasty. Odd to see two adjacent nests.... Unlike bees, these do not have a barbed stinger - they can pull back and sting you multiple times. True fact - the aggressive ones are all females - that explains a lot... Silly me - I thought this topic was going to be about safes - like where we store all our precious rare WH parts & options....
-
4 pointsCypress? Mechanical is the most environmental approach. Reachable, when cold and dark ish. Glove up and squish. Otherwise. Bifenthrin with a solid propellant. Good distance. Learn something new every day here. I am not aware of balding hornets

4 points@WheelHorse_Kid and I have been working on getting stuff squared away for winter. Had these 5 out of the garage so decided to snap a photo.

3 pointsMy dear friend George Sleezer gave me this beautiful viper red 656 that was his pride and joy. I’m so grateful for this, but sad to see he’s getting out of the hobby due to old age. It came with a sickle mower and tub cart. More pictures to come.

3 pointsjust read through your thread from September - - including the title and registration and VIN issues for your rig! Early in my career, I had oversight managing 5 DMV offices - the soap opera stories we were told of people buying and selling vehicles would fill a book -- although its after the fact for you, I would caution everyone about private sales - enormous fraud -- its amazing how dishonest some people can be. The best lesson is from when our parents taught us -- BUYER BEWARE !!

3 points@OldWorkHorse came byfor a visit. 3 YEARS ago he and I had @Pullstart send us a chunk of pvc to make dual wheel spacers. Steve and I used a table saw and some patience to cut several slices about 2.25" wide.
-
3 pointsIt may not work with hornets, but 70 years ago I saw my grandfather lure swarms of honey bees from trees. He spread a white canvas near the tree and placed a clean empty hive on the canvas. Then he sat beside the hive and called the bees by tapping a metal pot with a wooden spoon. Voodoo, magic but I saw it happen.

3 pointsI just finished removing the tires from rims, front and rear. I'm happy to report the rear wheels are clean inside. The back sides are clean as well, only the outer faces are dirty/rusty. I think they are more dirty that rusty. I'm going to try a little scrubbing to see what happens. The front rims are a different story. They are rusty which doesn't bother me to much, but both rims are bent on the outer rims. I'm not sure if I want to deal with trying to straighten them or just find replacements.

3 pointsI had many encounters with those things over the years. The last one overseas with Asiatic Hornets. Those things are over one inch long. I am highly allergic to any hornet or bee sting, and almost died a couple of times. I have EpiPens in each of the vehicles, one in my wife’s purse, one in the shop, and one in each shed. Wherever I go I carry one. As per the emergency room doctors over the years I have less than ten minutes to deal with when it happens. It immediately stars lowering my blood pressure and I go into shock. Not a fun occurrence with each one resulting with a stay in the hospital. I suggest that you get a professional to deal with them.
-
3 pointsIf I can take it in one piece? Agreed 100%. That was my thought exactly. Same here. I got stung on my lip over the summer because that particular nest wast 10 feet off the ground near my outdoor faucet. It bled for a few minutes and looked like it lost a bar fight. These guys are stupid aggressive! Yeah it's eye level. I found it while mowing. Rounded the tree and almost injured myself. Luckily it was early and not warmed up so they weren't really active. If it had been warmer I might not be making this post. Had a friend find one on a hunting trip early one morning who decided to take it down and stick it in his car. When he returned to the car he couldn't see in the windows. He had to leave the car until the next night and come back. Somehow I think I'd be paranoid of every sound it made for the next few days no matter how much bug spray had been used!

3 pointsGot this big AHU at work. It's like a submarine when you enter but opens above to a couple 40 HP motors and big filter racks. Takes 3 of us to PM the thing. Once I had 2 guys on the intake filters and I was up on a ladder on the opposite end doing the return filters. I hear screaming and these 2 guys come out of their like their pants are on fire. Which is quite a feat in itself as there are many big pipes you have to duck or step over. BEES!!!! I grabbed a CO2 fire extinguisher and let them have it! ( Also good for knocking down bats in a high ceiling!)

3 pointsTHE most effective bee 🐝 wasp hornet killer we've found is brake clean. Two or more cans. Done at night.

3 pointsGot a bucket full of lead wheel weights from a buddy of mine. When I melted them down, I found out only about half were actually lead. I had no idea. So I covered everything in a little concrete just to keep it from rattling around. I'll weld on a cover when it dries. So far it's 80lbs. Prolly go up a little when I finish it up.

3 pointsJoe Good to hear it runs. Many parts and manuals are right here. Only thing you need to know around here is we like of horses.

3 pointsI saw this 48" long frame plow on FBMP for cheap, so I made the 1 hr RT this morning. I never saw this warning decal before. Wheel Horse?

2 pointsHi all. Me and Mrs.W are at Manchester Airport hotel ready to fly out to Australia in the morning. Longest trip I've ever been on with plenty of seat time in a tin tube at 36,000 feet. We are off the Perth to watch the first Test match in this Ashes cricket series. Experience of a lifetime as when we have watched the game we fly to Brisbane to see Sandra's brother for a week on the sunshine coast. Im looking forward to seeing things for the first time, koalas, kangaroos, kookaburras etc. Bet it's a great place to play scrabble. Ill update you as we go, Qatar first stop for a refuel and leg stretch. Then on to Perth 14 hours later.
-
2 pointsDoes anyone have any photos of a Suburban with a plow and the pedal hooked up to the pin for changing the blade angle? I recently bought the plow pedal off eBay, but I can’t figure out how the chain is supposed to route without rubbing on the front axle. Did they just let it rub back in the day? I’ll post some photos later.
-
2 pointsGuy here used to make the seats but he since retired. Best advice is find a upholsterer? Center caps I may have.
-
2 pointsHit the auctions myself, I like the online soft close biding. I did find out tho some will let you bid on your own stuff and that seems hoaky. I have got some buys. and not to often paid a little more than i wanted to. I got stung a couple times running her up, lol it's only money.
-
2 pointsToo many cases where the old rv gets abandoned in the park. I don't agree with using a 10 year arbitrary limit, but I can see their point
-
2 pointsThere are 2 distinctly different mounting styles for Mid grader blades. The early ones mount like a mower deck, the later style mounts to the same Unidrive mount as a snow plow or tiller. That style seems to be preferred... Either one share the same complaint - they tend to be too light and rise up in use. Painting the rims - better to mount your tires first, inflate them & check the pressure after a couple of days to see if there are any issues that require dismounting them.... If all is fine, then use the playing card trick on uninflated tires. Works just fine...
-
2 pointsSame here, I have no desire to play that game.
-
2 pointsI am sad for their situation indeed, and can only imagine the pain of planning the end, with little control of the present. We don’t travel to any campgrounds with those rules. I have to believe we would not fit in, the same as our RV
-
2 pointsI had a pro come to take my nest (I discovered it by accidentally brushing against the tree and getting stung in three places--I nearly fainted from the shock). That evening, the tech, fully garbed in protective clothing, “smoked it” similar to what beekeepers do. He then very carefully removed it intact by cutting the branch and placing it in a heavy clear plastic bag. He said the bees would suffocate and starve within a few days whereupon his company sells the intact nest to a supplier of high school and college science labs!

2 pointsI watched a guy on YouTube digging into today's modern appliances compared to ones years ago. He was pretty thorough. Interviewed a appliance engineer during the process. The just was modern appliances last 10 years and some only 5-6 years.....Why? One contributing item was complexity. Ie. refrigerators have more doors, ice grinders and water dispensers now. even touch screens in the doors. Plus what is the truth? Americans want it quick, cheap, convenient and fancy. There is a long version on this video, it was interesting. Mowers are just modern day appliances now not really equipment per say. I had a couple zero turns here for repair. The last one was a bad boy and it was well built. I was testing it out in the flats and man will it cut the grass. Only thing, I did not enjoy the ride, it was far from the relaxed mowing of the xi. Not to mention, you have to stop to get a swig of a cold drink. The cup holder was just that a holder.

2 pointsTook my last ride of the season today, it was cold AND windy so it was a very short ride. But I ended this season with 456 miles pedaled total which is a few more than last season..that’s a plus!
