15 pointsOn my way home... diverted and stopped here. Talked with a couple workers who where cutting the lawn and remembered WH. Kinda cool to have walked the grounds Tony

7 pointsInternational Chef Day is observed all over the world on October 20 of every year. The day celebrates chefs and spreads awareness about eating healthy. Every year, a theme is decided for International Chef Day. Unlike most other modern professions, the chef has played a significant role in our society since the beginning of time. Food is a basic need, and experiments with food have been going on for thousands of years. In the first century A.D., a Roman gourmet called Marcus Apicius wrote the world’s first cookbook. His book was named after him: “Apicius,” also known as “The Art of Cooking.” The book contains more than 400 recipes, and Marcus traveled great distances to secure the ingredients. Auguste Escoffier, an eminent chef from France, created the brigade system and simplified kitchen dynamics in the 1870s. According to his system, each person in the kitchen had a particular task. The system worked like a military hierarchy — first, there was the head chef in charge of the whole kitchen, then the sous chef, and so on. His book “Le Guide Culinaire” is still in print and is included in the curriculum of modern culinary students due to its relevance.

6 pointsWorking on this Bad Boy zero hero, doing a service and the owner ask if I could fab up some kind of plow. Looking around the net I was surprised to find there are kits for these things and some folks say they do a good job. Figuring something quick to install and remove was the plan. I have used a receiver for a plow before and it worked out great. So I am going down that road with this one. Not mine just a pic from the net So most plows clamp on and off but think it would be just best to pull one pin.
-
6 pointsGlad I got those parts tractors to @WHX??'s plow day so I could make room for this RJ. Saw it on Marketplace when I got home yesterday and picked it up on my way home from work. Not running but has compression and shifts into all gears. Sheet metal is in great shape and looks to be all there. Came with mower deck and plow blade.

6 pointsBlock cleaned and degreased. I did not scrape too much as I was afraid of scratching it. Head bolt threads were chased with a tap to be sure they were clear for proper torque. Head bolts and gaskets ready. Head bolts were lightly oiled both on the threads and under the head then the head was loosely bolted on. Head was then torqued to 60 in/lb then 120 in/lb then to final torque of 160 in/lb following the sequence in the engine manual.

6 pointsDon’t put it down, put it away! Got these sweet new wheel weights mounted! @WHX?? thanks Uncle Jim!

5 pointsTurning over my Wheel Horse Snowplow wear bar. Painting bar and plow for winter! Putting plow on my B-80 tractor. cleaned up the garage and reconfigured horses! Ten inside this year! I need to take a few to my brother’s storage barn but probably wont get it done this fall!
-
5 pointsYour proctologist would love it too, it might be best to turn around and sit on the seat as intended.

4 pointsYes Just a reference pic @ri702bill The pivot will be much lower on, (about half way down) and the plow will have a trip mechanism. I made a mental note on the level stop. Good idea! This is the donor plow blade assy I picked up from auction. These older craftsmen blades are way heaver than the newer ones. One receiver tube would cost more than that whole pile. think a 12" tube is going for about $15 now. Lost of potential in that pile.

4 pointsValves were pulled and lapped until a nice contact pattern was established. Valve clearance set (0.005 intake, 0.013 exhaust) I used this stepped feeler gauge set that makes it so easy, just use the stepped down part to set gap and the thicker part should not fit in. I use these thin wrenches to adjust the tappets.
-
4 pointsFavorite horse in my herd. You're gonna love it (once you're done hating it)!
-
4 pointsOoooooh! Then I could hop on it and holler, "Yee haw! We're off to the rodeo!" My wife would love that!

4 pointsComplete after market rebuild kit is not too bad on price. With machining you could be under $700 in the engine, cheaper depending on what it all needs. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185525360554 https://www.ebay.com/itm/184819889176

4 pointsThis is one of many life situations where the value of an item could be a slightly different variation in comparison to a replacement. The new engine alone may be worth two or three times the value of the machine as a whole. But what is the expected lifespan of the machine in comparison to a new one? The multiplication is certainly different comparing a single cylinder rebuild to a twin but the principal & principle still stands. I'd spend $1K on a new engine for a Wheelhorse before I'd buy a new machine.
-
4 pointsAbsolutely agreed. Luckily for me the BBT is even more adamant about it than I am. We still have one more metal frame too. I believe it's a 12 x 20 or so. I'd like to add a knee high base below that one and use it for the camper.
-
4 pointssure does make a difference keeping stuff and machines out of the weather.

4 pointsWe still have it…as I recall, these are a one year only offering (1987–I think 🤔). The M18 is pretty tired and I’ve been watching for about 5 years and haven’t found a good low hours WH spec one to replace it. It would cost way more than the tractor is worth to rebuild it…so, what to do? Caleb owns the 418-C and the follow up 520HC! Pretty cool one-two punch if you ask me!
-
4 pointsPicked up a C-120 auto with a snowplow and wheel weights today. Started to mess with it a bit but going to need some cleaning and a few battery cables and some good needed maintanece. Picked it up from the original owner and they were looking for the manuals and such but couldn’t seem to find them. Everything seems to be there. More to come soon.
-
3 pointsHello All, First off... I will NEVER believe that theres only "225" This is number 3 for me (sold first one dangit) Plus @Sparky has one in his garage and I saw another sell this week. There EVERYWHERE... Anyways... took a few days off from work and went on a road trip. Im 1000 miles west of home in Indianna. Picked these up today, doing a couple other things around here tomorrow--that will be another post. Supposidely the one on the back was fully rebuilt--engine and trans wise and painted by a member here on the Square. ( Ronald Castleman?) The dealer in pic was original seller and supposidely big time WH / Toro. Tony 6pm update... Got to hotel I'm staying at... unloaded everything and put that big azz deck on back to take the squat out of my truck. No need to kill it like that for 1000 miles 20251019_153909.mp4

3 pointsSaved what I believe is a '59 RJ per the engine spec tonight on my way home from work. 10 miles from my house! Came with mower deck and plow. Seems to be all there. Non running, but does have compression.
-
3 points16 years plus on that wear bar? I would try and get my money back someone obviously burnt you up on that one.
-
3 pointsLonger horizontally. I was going to take the front wheels off of Caleb’s JackRabbit and use them on a different WH and made that discovery. I would guess that they are at least 3/4 if not an inch longer… I'd spend $1K on a new engine for a Wheelhorse before I'd buy a new machine. Eric—you know that I live by that mantra. My “new truck” is almost 24 years old…my newest garden tractor is Kelli’s big RED (about 27 years old). I in no way am advocating for tossing the old in favor of the new…However, in this particular setting, I’m trying to determine the most prudent use of finances. Caleb currently owns 5 garden tractors, 4 wheel horses (854, 314H, 418C, and 520HC) and 1 Cub. The 314 is good with the 48” deck for mowing and blade work (snow/gravel). The 854 is just plain super cool and works great for fun and little yard projects. The 520 will be a beast with the BerVac blower, mower/bagger, plowing, pretty much anything Caleb wants to do. So Caleb needs to decide if he wants to spend the money for the rebuild of the 418C engine and what role that tractor will have in his stable. Ideally, I’d still love to find a sound running, reasonably low hour WH spec M18…🤞🏻 As suggested above, I could switch to a different twin altogether like a Vanguard or a Honda/Predator. This will need to be a discussion as we move forward. I do love the history with this tractor, myself, and Caleb. Lots of memories recorded in this thread and I love reading them again.

3 pointsWith it being close to all Hallows Eve, did you feel the Pond spiritual presence.
-
3 pointsValve covers installed and bolts torqued to 18 in/lb I used this 1/4" drive torque wrench and these gaskets.
-
3 pointsI did an M-18. Wound up just under $1,000. (2021 prices) The kit had standard rods I needed .010 under. also kit does not have valves and guides (4 each) Kohler changed the valve angle over time and one type is much harder to find. I would not do that again.
-
3 pointsIf everything else is in good shape I'd spring for a Honda engine and repower it. One of those engines should last a lifetime with proper maintenance.
-
3 pointsI have been using this for a few years now. I figured if it’s good enough for lightweight aircraft it’s good enuf to power a Kohler engine. They are a little bit expensive as you can see, but I’ve had good luck with them starts right up. It is one to two psi.
-
3 pointsWe freshened up the storage for the Herd today. New tarp on the portable garage up by the barn. We also got this second one set up. This is parts and projects storage.
-
3 pointsI grew up painting cars - so I'm constantly thinking about painting my tractors. But then I hook up an attachment and put them to work and realize what a beating a fresh paint job would be taking. Or worse yet, when I'm working on one and realize I have tools and parts laying on every flat section of the tractor. Now that I have a few tractors to play with, I might choose one for mostly light duty and slap a decent paint job on it. I say get it running and use it for a summer/winter and decide if it's going to be for show or work and choose accordingly. And remember, there's plenty of middle ground between Original and Restored.
-
3 pointsWell I guess it’s been a little over a year since the last update… I’m still working on the truck around work and school and I’ve made some progress. The chassis is pretty much complete besides running wires and tightening a few things up. The project has snowballed a lot more than I anticipated, went from just cleaning the frame up to completely stripping it down and having every single piece of hardware zinc plated. Also went ahead and installed some traction bars to keep the axle under the truck with the power. I don’t know of if I mentioned before that I installed a 4” lift as well. I haven’t really touched the body yet but that’s coming up soon. The engine is back from the machine shop and ready for assembly once I get all the parts gathered up. I had an aggressive port job done on the head, bored the block .050” over to run flat top pistons from a 390fe v8, and decked the head .010”. I have a 268 comp cam I’m going to slip in then going to run a 4brrl Holley sniper and add some boost with a turbo. My goal is to be somewhere around 500hp. I have a lot of other plans but those come later.

3 pointsI thought that I had hit the jackpot when my S-I-L got a Kubota with a loader. But back in February, my new next-door neighbor moved in. His final trip with his trailer revealed a Kubota with FEL and back-hoe. He said to me "if you ever need to use it, the keys are under the mat", or something like that.

2 pointsWe have been seeing a flock of turkeys roaming the neighborhood lately and today a few of them discovered our bird feeder. My wife said she didn't know turkeys liked bird food. I reminded her that they are BIRDS.
-
2 pointsLast time I thought I was going to do a freshen up I ended up stripping down to this, then it became a full blown restoration!
-
2 pointsI still go past the place fairly often. I use to live about a mile away and went past it quite often then. I'll be going past it again tomorrow. It never fails to bring back fond memories of touring the entire facilities as a contractor. They were still building the square hoods then so no pictures.
-
2 pointsyep. lynnmor ! Not much left on other side but i should get two years more with this wear bar. I still have a new old stock wear bar for the future! I think i turned this around a couple years after i bought it . Been using at least 14 years!
-
2 pointsTouching that they returned home 45 or so years later, this time parked out front, not crated at the rear loading dock.... Talked with a couple workers who where cutting the lawn - it would have been fitting if they were using WH equipment to do so.....
-
2 pointsThose Dewalt inflators are great. I have 2 myself and they get constant use. Between bike/car/tractor tires, and inflating/deflating mattresses for kids sleepovers, they are always handy. Great for stashing in the under floor storage compartment for road trips as well
-
2 pointsI used a $100 rebate card and picked this one up for $70. They were also running a promotion for a free 5AH battery and charger with any bare tool purchase! Those batteries aren't cheap. I got the $100 rebate when they were selling the 5AH batteries for $59.99 (reg. $179.99) + $20 rebate = $39.99 I bought one for myself (I have 2 batteries in service and 3 still in the package) and bought four for my son in-law, the contractor. They currently have them on sale again for $59.99! Bomgaars : DEWALT Premium Lithium-Ion Battery 5.0 AH, 20V MAX : Batteries

2 pointsIf any of my stuff still had a good paint job on it I wouldn’t paint it. My 308 was rusty but overall in pretty decent condition. The paint was chipping off over the rust so I thought I’d paint it. That thinking was the same for my 312 especially after I replaced the mashed in hood with a newly painted one. The C-141 on the other hand was extremely pitted. I figured I’d spruce up what was left of the paint and even it out with the newly painted dash and shifter plate. The majority of it had already been quickly touched up by a PO by the old spray bomb/brush method. None of mine are show quality but they are presentable.
-
2 pointsThe 418-C was built for commercial users like lawn services and such. It has heavier front wheel bearings, longer spindles, no idiot lights and a bight higher speed. Mine is used for snow plowing and leaf blowing. I have mowed with it but that twin cylinder Kohler uses about 1/3 more gas than the 310-8.

2 pointsWhen I lived in Fort Pierce, FL, the best lobster diving was near the discharge line from the wastewater treatment plant. I never told my wife exactly where I got them, Just got them in the river honey.

2 pointsActually Frankenstein was the Docters name that stitched together the monster from different bodies. Frankenstein's Monster was the one that was stitched up from different bodies....
-
2 pointsI've never named any of mine, but if I did they'd be somewhere along the lines of "Igor, Quasimoto, and Bugaboo"...
-
2 pointsIs it okay if I use a variation of your tractor name? I'm the proud owner of what I'm calling "Frankenhorse" It's (chassis) is a '73 16-Automatic, engine K321 14HP, hydro and transaxle from a later C-series. Hydraulic lift from an older Charger. Seat (2nd pic) from a boneyard C-series. If it becomes an operable tractor, it gets the horse hood ornament (origin unkown) Right now, it's still in my mad scientist lab receiving multiple part transfusions! I think I can save the transaxle, but after seeing this filter screen, I'm skeptical about the hydro. Engine seems good. Frame and sheet metal seems good. Electric PTO works.
-
2 pointsToday I visually finished off my Frankenstein tractor. As I said in the updated Frankenstein thread, I bought some decals from Redo Your Horse (Terry) for the C-141 Auto.
-
2 pointsI put a magnetic cup holder on the 314. I’m resting now 🤪
-
2 pointsI guess if you got a flat tire after the wife's cell phone discharged the battery on the compressor at least you could look up a roadside service provider to come fill the tire for you.
