Yes, the axle tolerance is about .005 under for these tapers. I had an axle that was almost ten under and the hub would slide around. I did get those hubs to work. I blocked the back of the hub with a piece of bar steel, taped (not hammered) the taper in, re torque the bolts, and repeated several times until the taper flange was almost up-against the hub. Has been holding on the xi machine with fluid filled tires over a year now. after before giving it an extra bump.

Based on my records, the 418-a is a 1987 model. The owners manual specifies 9.50 wide. I have purchased tractor tires from Miller Tire and was very satisfied.

What kind of thread pattern are you looking for? That does seem a little high but not for some styles like Firestone 23 ags. Tire prices have skyrocketed in recent years. I don't think I've ever saw or shopped for them in the 9.50 flavor but here's a set. Mainly 8.5 and 10.5. are most common which you should be able to easily run. https://www.millertire.com/23x9-50-12-rubber-master-turf-4-ply-tire/ Hers a set of Dees in 8.5 ags affordable & free ship. Probably not much more in 10.5 https://www.ebay.com/itm/353061325940?_skw=23+8.50+12+tire&epid=9073595196&itmmeta=01K5J87Y1AXD0KF3Q0P8FVVB4K&hash=item5234184c74:g:UpwAAeSw0o5n6opR&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1d11yFgEzj4aj%2Blqc0ua%2Bjo4wxH%2FcDHuLeHYfDTvJ%2BewObf40j8b9P%2BBHvd94betbqiJxSJpZ%2FaZU3yHSk6Y%2B9%2F58ydz4YPWMOWdweFdE%2BpQz6snT5HlCLlUP4Cn8uglQWe56O8kZRP4eGmiZNaQ4NRKWj1%2F6%2Fyx6W7h%2BvkbL9LYjt7bA2pBQOS0afqUsSXyZzsj9bUTi0tOETirNPwZ8RzSQXOBXF%2F6SdqGrbHhMv%2BtQZlkig5Tf20QMx0BKZUHBJDT67kOmhENnga4bKBZaYaKrngHXHIKh61rLphlPzVug%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBMuOGfyKxm
