As of about 10:30 this morning I am no longer employed. I turned in the truck, building keys, credit card, and all electronics.

This is another one I had years ago. It took me three years to find this model. I posted a few years ago the day I bought it under the title 607 and when I was done with it a few years after that. That’s when I was painting tractors.

Neighbor stopped by with his skid steer and really helped me clean up some of the debris piles and overgrown brush I had. Awesome neighbors! Just need a small excavator to finish up (anyone near by with a mini excavator want to help ) It was all fun and games until we disturbed a big bee nest, little guys got me 11 times, good thing I am not allergic!

WARNING: Retirement means that others see retirees as those who have plenty of free time to assist them in their needs. Practice saying "N0." in a mirror until it flows off of the tongue like butter! Congratulations to a well deserved retirement.

2 guys retired today at work. Another guy who has said he's retiring for the past 10 years just fell thru the floor of his brother's trailer. I planning on retiring (again) at the end of next May. That is unless some nurse manager tries to throw her (weight) around again then it could be any day now!

LOL! Actually my bike has a larger seat than most with springs under it. There’s also a mini shock absorber with about an inch of travel in the seat-post to soak up the bumps. I’m at 229 miles so far this spring/summer

Avoid the Onan (just my opinion) and go newer with a 312 or 414 type of machine with a 42” deck. Nice and easy to maintain, they don’t have finicky carburetors and the wiring is a bit simpler than the 500 series.

For mowing duties, I would look for a 312 Gear drive or Eaton 1100 hydro. Both will easily turn a 42 or even a 48" deck. The magnum is a quiet fuel sipper that runs cool for summer work. IMO, the twins waste fuel and make too much heat for summer work.

National Chop Suey Day on August 29 is dedicated to this delicious and amazing American-Chinese dish. Made with an assortment of ingredients like vegetables, meat, and eggs, chop suey is served with rice or noodles. Many Americans have grown up eating it and enjoy it well into their adulthood too. Because of globalization, chop suey is now enjoyed all over the world. There may be variations in the recipe here and there, but the element of scrumptiousness remains constant. Much like the hundreds of various chop suey recipes out there, there are several origin stories about it too. From transcontinental roads to immigrants in a new country to royal courthouses, chop suey’s origin stories do take one on quite the ride.

I gave the company notice seven years ago, Three years ago they decided I needed to train my replacement. I gave them a hard date when I finished my chemo. My replacement has done very well without too many questions. I have been looking forward to this day for a long time.

I have had several changes of vocation over the years but the best choice I ever made was retirement. Nineteen years and counting.

Took Mrs. K to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Lee's Landing on the Susquehanna river in Port deposit, Md. This is a couple mile down river from the Conowingo Hydro Dam where I fish for striped bass early in the spring. Then went to the other side of the river to the boat launch. That black roof between the white is the restuarant.

Kinda with 'Fish on the burn. I burn it in the pit now and then but just small scraps. Built many a deer stand with repurposed decks. Built a new wall at spike camp out of an old loading dock from the HVAC shop. All treated... friggen treated is wicked expensive now a days and since EPA outlawed the old stuff with arsenic not worth a hoot.

Congrats Hank ... I thought I knew what you did for a living ... Electrical?? It does take a little getting used to. Not having to get out the door in the morning, drinking coffee out of a cup than a travel mug. I do miss the fringees tho. I actually had to buy some black iron exhaust fittings the other day rather than reaching in the bin at the shop. Ain't that the truth Coach ... teaching that recliner a lesson can be a full time job!

I have 3,4 and 500 series WH tractors. My 312-8 was used as a mower for 20 years and with a snow blade for 2 or 3. GREAT tractor and still own it. The 400 series is a great all around tractor for just about any job, but as @Ed Kennell mentioned they are thirsty. The 500 series is a Cadillac but needs to be kept OUT OF THE WEATHER when not in use. Great tractor, very comfortable and all kinds of power for any job you need to get done. Pic of all 3 series. 3,4,5.

Seems like a long time, but what do I know. They kept me out of work a month after my heart attack. Took a month just to get back up to speed. I was ready right after they did the stints. That was 7 years ago. Still hanging in there.

Got some sandable primer on the hood. After I get it sanded down and a coat of regular primer it will get painted to cure for a while so it will be ready for decals when I get to that point.

Dughter is moved into her college residence. This is all that is left of my poor tractor now. A bunch of little parts have been painted, bagged and boxed. Hub set screws and jamb nuts, PTO rod trunnion and clip, steering shim washers bead blasted and painted. PTO rod and hoop bead blasted and one coat of paint applied.

That tow bar is probably original too. They did fit in there pretty loose and the original pin was an eye bolt like that. Most of the time that eye bolt has been long gone and replaced by a standard bolt. Even the eye bolt looks old. Of coarse a piece of bar and an eye bolt can always be replaced pretty easily. Probably find it in a drawing for a trailer or towed attachment

Had a ‘shroom burger for dinner. Big portobello mushroom cap filled with blue cheese and covered/baked for 15 mins.Too messy to pick up and eat so I use a knife and fork! Side salad, corn on the cob, and a baked Idaho. Yum.

It's been four weeks since my surgery and I'm healing pretty well. I still have three weeks before my follow up visit with the surgeon. I seen the surgeons PA a week ago and was told no lifting over 15 lbs, no riding lawn mower, ATVs or climbing stairs before I see the surgeon.

If you want to save money and have something decent that won’t put you in debt. A piece of thin Lexan and a bit of painting you can have something similar.

Well servicing Onan's are becoming and Issue In recent Years due to Lack of Parts I liked Onan's Back when they were In Production Now I really avoid Purchasing a Tractor with an Onan as soon as I can the ONAN in My 416H will be replaced with either a Briggs Kit from Small engine warehouse or a Honda kit from repower specialists. I am not a fan of Tecumseh either especially If the Made Before the Mid 1980's I agree with Ed a 300 series with a Eaton 1100 would Be a Better choice if staying with WH

What about a good used 520 or 520H?? How much acreage do you need to mow?? If it is substantial, perhaps look into a Zero Turn??

Around the house and shop just a zippo knife and the shop keys. I only carry my wallet when I am driving. I grab it and my keys on the way out. Had one for years and it worked well and lost it and upgraded to the lighter plastic handle zippo.

Certainly not an RJ expert, but I’m looking at how it’s not snug in the slot hitch and thinking “nice bit of fabrication by a PO"

Nearly always with me: Victorinox Classic linked to a ThruNite Ti3 V2 flashlight (AAA), two car fobs & house key, wallet, clean handkerchief, mechanical pencil Started carrying knives in Scouts, Mom started me on handkerchiefs, my son on the tiny flashlight. The linked knife and light are a lot harder to lose and both have come in handy more often than I can recall. A pencil instead of a pen because I can erase oopses.

Today i bought something I could not refuse! Lots of original parts in great shape ( and a few not that great like wheels but still with original tires and frint still loaded ). The seller was mowing with it when i went to look ( but i took my trailer) . I drove in third gear and accidentally hit the kill switch - still working! The Schnacke recoil, the rear hitch attachment connector, the showerhead muffler , an oil bath air cleaner with original decal, all the guards ( and belt guard had the original spacers with it) with no rust holes, a pretty early seat cushion, tight steering and a very good operating transmission snd motor! Somehow this survived 67 years. No crack on hood around gas tank. Gas tank very clean! yes the wheels have some rust and a few holes but tires all appear original to me. I think the decal ar back and the frame decal with # 12510 may be replaced decals but maybe that was the original #. I need a sixth RJ like a hole in the head but i got this on west side if Indianapolis near Raceway Road today! I am happy to have gone after it!

I did some welding work and have done some maintenance / repairs on a neighbor and friend’s equipment lately. Instead of charging him, I banked rental time. For example, the dump truck had major tailgate issues and I remedied the route problem in a simple way. Same for his mini excavator when the track blew off on a side hill and the grease zerk fitting stripped out. I took care of it cheaper and faster than most mobile wrench shops might have. 2. The concrete was very broken, un-level and a trip hazard for all ages. It was also quite small around the pool and we were quoted nearly $13,000 to level the slabs and epoxy seal the cracks. I ended up with a quote for $14,000 to pour much larger concrete, and will pour a bit around the back of the house to support the A/C unit and encapsulate the propane line. We roasted the deck and pulled up the cement.

I bought my first Wheel Horse over forty years ago when I was in high school. I remember going to the dealership, walking around looking at all the Wheel Horses, talking to the owners and the salesman. They had A LOT of them! At one time they were the largest dealer on the east coast according to them. They had a showroom with large plate glass windows like a car dealership, and it was full of new Wheel Horses! I can even remember seeing a 420-LSE in the showroom wishing I could have it, not knowing that one day I’d actually own one. I was addicted to these tractors at an early age. Before the internet I remember thinking that I can’t be the only one who likes these tractors so much and wondered how many other people were out there like me? Then I bought my second one when I was about twenty years old. Shortly after that I inherited two from my step grandfather who introduced me and my dad to the brand. Then came the internet and the Big Show and that really fueled my addiction to these tractors. At that point there was no going back! I started buying more tractors, implements and memorabilia. And then came the game changer, Red Square 🟥 This is when I met all of you nice people. People with so much knowledge about these tractors it’s amazing. It seems that guys have their niche as far as the different eras and wow, they have so much information it’s unbelievable. Never here will you get a snide or condescending response or comment from a question. Folks who are like that are quickly made unwelcome or simply banned. It seems that the people here are all pretty much like minded and truly enjoy keeping their tractors going. I really have made a lot of friends over the years because of these machines and Red Square. Having easy access to other enthusiasts makes it easy for me to want to keep this hobby going. The guys here appreciate the durability and simplicity of WH’s and realize that “They just don’t make em like this anymore!” Anyway, thanks for reading my long winded response. As some of you know I love talking about these tractors and could go on and on!………….
