Boys and their toys… The rental on this Bobcat was covered by doing the tailgate latch work on his dump truck last week. A major backyard overhaul is in the works and big and small equipment will be employed here. That Ohio Steel dump trailer works awesome!

C-85 cleaning is essentially done…back on all fours wheels. This one might actually get waxed!

We just found this forum. I would like to meet a wheel horse mechanic in my area. My son (11) and I just bought a Toro Wheel Horse 16 Hydro, model 73423. It has over 1k on the meter but runs like a charm. Any feedback welcome!

I made a hitch for my york rake. I don't have a lift cable for slip hitch yet, would it do any damage if I tow it around with out a cable?

Pulley’s looked okay, and I am sure if I replaced the idler pulley it would have been a Toro part. When I checked the belt, there is one part of the belt where it almost looks like a seam, definitely a bump there. I ordered a new belt, have to see if that works better. I am okay with a little movement, but this is excessive.

check the pulley on the transmission too. Take a peek at the pulley alignment between the engine and transmission, too.

We’re all Wheel Horse mechanics on this bus, er, garden tractor. Some of us actually know what we’re doing. I’m not one of those people, but I’m better now than when I joined, and you guys can be too!

Big Wheels for the Win! I have to admit, the 1445 was my first choice for the chore, but it has not near enough weight or traction. The 1630 just chugged along.

Most 30 year old or older Wheel Horses need new tie rods as they are completely worn out, I just make a new set with heims joints. The last ones built are almost 20 years old now.

I have done the switch on 2 310-8’s. I don’t know where the spindles were from on the first one, on the second, I was fortunate enough to get the HD Spindles and HD wheels. Neither one required a tie rod change or adjustment.
  22. 3 points
But, if those are sealed bearings, no fitting is needed..... Makes for cleaner wheels too.

Added 100 lbs to the front of the 310-8 to balance out the Trac Vac. That bagger is heavy when filled with 200 lbs of wet grass. Also added a ratchet strap to prevent the box from tipping over. I find it easier and faster to windrow the grass with the 312H 48" SD and then collect it with the Trac Vac.

Hi, I'm looking for some 8" rims for my newly refurbished 312-8. I'll be mounting 16x6.5-8 tires on them. Has anyone tried these rims from surplus center? https://www.surpluscenter.com/Wheels/Spindles-Wheel-Hubs-Bearings/Wheel-Rims/8-x5-5-Steel-Wheel-Rim-3-4-Bore-w-Bearings-1-5079.axd

Got new carb gasket and fuel pump diaphragm in the 855 today, then cleaned up/reorganized the garage, again so I can get the tractors in a more accessible position.

My first wheel horse. Could not be happier. Boys love her too. we don’t get a ton of snow in ct but I’d like to get a plow or blower. I was given a like new ariens that I’m sure just needs car overhaul. This will always do a better job sure. But I was thinking of selling for cash in which case I need a plow or blower. Is one better than another. I see single stage blowers but not sure what fits my c105

Mowing w/654 & had to do a temporary repair on front axle pin. Plate broke off the end of it. Big bolt & 2 nuts to keep it locked in place. 🤞 Axle almost pulled out. This will do till I order the correct part......

Another fabulous trip up north! We stayed here in the area of the red circle for 3 nights. Just drive in. Find a place to set for a bit. The moderate drought here had the roads a basic dust bowl. Here's a few views from low altitude of Big Spencer Mt. This, believe it or not, shows a beautifully constructed rock staircase. It was done maybe 12 to 15 years ago by a group of college age volunteers to prevent erosion and keep good access to the mountain. This is Mt Katahdin from Spencer. This is not just any old mound of dirt. It's the largest 🐜 🐜 🐜 ant nest we've ever seen. About the size of an average sedan. Whilst perusing and exploring the forest we found a mud puddle with several excellent animal tracks. Here's a nice bear 🐻 track. There was also moose deer and others... This is what a bear 🐻 does in the woods... One of our 3 piles of firewood. We noticed it looked like a beaver house and Trina decided it needed a birch flag. We have another 3 nights of camping this week! More pics soon.

I did very little to the WHs today. The new fuel pump diaphragms from @buckrancherarrived in the mail today. Bruce (my son) rebuilt the fuel pump. I supervised the rebuild and the reassembly of the engine. Then we filled the fuel and waited to see if any ran out of the oil drain, we had nothing after a little while, so we filled it up and fired it. After running for a minute the idle settled and it ran better than it has since I owned it.

I bought 2 of them, the hug is 3" so I used a 3/4" collar and a couple of washers behind the wheel. I didn't change the spindles..They also don't have grease fittings. I have on my Raider. Kind of a pain to drill for the fittings, ground a spot first with a Dremel before drilling. They come with tube spacer between the bearings, have to knock it to the side to knock the gearings out. I had to put the grease fitting on the back side of those wheels. I used the narrow rims from the Raider with 400x8 Triribs on my 312-8. Picture of the 312-8. Picture of the Raider 12 with those wheels. Good strong wheels only problem is no grease fittings.

Laid down some stripes with the 315-8. For the first time ever it started hard and ran rough, might have to yank the carb off it and go through it. It eventually straightened out, but after sitting for a bit I went to put it away and again it was running lousy. This is also my only rig with a drink holder, what a nice feature

Today was a SUCCESS !!! The initial coat of paint looks good. I swapped to a gravity feed gun and that was the solution. I’m going to put another coat of paint on after I do some touch up in spots. but it’s getting there. I sprayed another coat later after I posted. It’s looking good.

So yesterday I met up with @Pullstart to swap a couple tractors... I'm looking at another restoration, only this one runs, has good tires, and overall seems in pretty good shape. LED lights even work... In keeping with my budget (think Ramon noodles), I have already fixed the seat at no cost. Will be changing the oil in motor and trans, doing a thorough cleaning, replacing the shifter boot, and then seeing what direction I go from there... This one may just stay in its work clothes... Some pics:

Today's progress: 1. Finished the front hitch. Worked out perfect. 2. First coat of penetrol on the hood and fender pan... I'm going to keep it in its work clothes... 3. @WHX?? i took your advice and cut out the WH logo from the old seat... location pending... All for now.

Southern CT these days gets wet snow. transition zone I have a house in vT and most weekends I am skiing. Most storms I use my 4x4 and leave. I come home it’s melted. I don’t need anything expect maybe once a year type of stuff if that. I think plow is the way to go. I am probably gonna pick up a 312-8 Monday that has wheel weights. I can grab a plow and then she is set up for that.

Maybe check the engine drive pulley for an obstruction.

The slide is spring loaded to tension the belt, just a little prybar action to move the idler and you are good to go. Be sure to check the idler pulley while you are at it.
