14 pointsSo I buddy of mine who I got into this hobby twenty years ago called me and said he was done. He kept his 953, and his B-80 that we restored many years ago. I bought the rest of his stuff, including two C-160’s, mid-mount grader blade and dozer blades which will be going up for sale soon. I really just wanted some of the stuff he had but he wanted to sell it all in one shot and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse! The things I wanted were a clock that we were told hung in the factory at 515 West Ireland Rd., a NOS high back seat, NOS hubcaps both red head and the newer style, and a couple of sets of cast iron wheel weights. The rest I will be selling at some point, including some D-series items and a lot of parts for 70’s and early 80’s tractors. I’m going to post it here first, but I’m not sure when? Probably after the summer as it’s a lot of parts to go through. The tractors may be up for sale sooner. Stay tuned or PM me if you see something in these pictures you might like!

10 pointsI posted a 'what's in my mirror' shot yesterday and here it is. A super nice 400. No, it doesn't belong to me. I met up with @stvski80085 a few weeks ago in Crawfordville when he latched on to my tub cart. He mentioned he wanted a mid engine oldie. There's a place a few miles south of here called Random Crap. Everything is behind the house. Sheds, trailers, etc. filled with......random crap and constantly changing. I had been wanting to stop by but every time I passed it I didn't have the time or they were closed. Their open hours seem to be......random. A few weeks ago the stars aligned and I pulled in. I'm thinking I got a grin when I saw 4 red tractors lined up. A Lawn Ranger, a mid 60's round hood, a B-80 and this Suburban 400. Of course I had to look them over and the conversation was lengthy. Steve came to mind so I told him about it. It wasn't long before he became the new owner. He lives in Missouri so I'll babysit until we can get together. Paperwork came with it including the original receipt from 1960. Cool! The original (supposedly) engine was included. Somebody apparently rebuilt it but screwed it up. It was replaced with a NOS K-91 with almost no hours. Along with a box of parts. Fresh snow/dirt blade and mower deck. 7 new blade tips are in the parts box. All the guards are in place. Note the tires, shower cap muffler and rear hitch. Is this a Fairbanks? I couldn't resist taking it to my personal favorite picture setting at the north end of our property. You guys have seen this setting many times. I'm thinking Steve will be happy with it.

10 pointsI had to step away for a little bit. Found out that my best dog Milo has cancer and was given days to weeks to live. We unfortunately had to cancel our vacation, and put all trips on-hold for the big guy. My other dog has cancer as well, but has a little more time than Milo does. So been spending a lot of time with the dogs, and not being able to go on vacation decided to brush off the old boat sitting in the back yard for the past 6 years It took a LOT of work to clean it up, replace the bellows, fix the engine, trailer and a host of other things. My oldest daughter gifted us a slip on Candlewood lake in Connecticut, so we can get out occasionally. Milo is still hanging in, and we are enjoying the time we have left with him. Now that the massive boat work is completed, I hope to spend some more time here and get some hats out the door. If you read this far, Camo hats are available in the store and I will order some of the others shortly. Apologies for the delays on this, I needed the time though.

6 pointsI found a classified ad on the Square a couple of days ago from a member only 20 minutes away. It was for a 1971 Raider 10 with accessories. FREE. How could I turn that down? So I gathered up grandson Mason, hooked up the trailer and off we went. We brought it home and put it all behind the pole building. It hasn't run for years, didn't have a battery, and worst of all, it's a Tecumseh HH100. Mason asked me what was I going to do with it? I knew what he was thinking as he just bought a Raider 12 at the show in June and may need some parts. I answered, nothing. Just going to use if for decoration. With that said, Mrs. M promptly decorated it. I guess Mr. Bones will be sitting out in front of the house on Halloween. Meanwhile, today I went out and bought a battery. Oh my goodness, what was I thinking?

6 pointsFrames painted and tomorrow morning it will be back together. Bed was built wood cut and coated in oil. Long build for a quick project I upgraded the brake linkage so thanks to folks who said fix that. I ended up testing it and bent the rod like nothing was even there. Went with half inch tube with 3/8 hemi joints.

6 pointsOne of two C-160’s that came with a whole lot of Wheel Horse stuff I bought today! I’ll post some pictures of the stuff in another thread so we can keep this one on track

5 pointsI bought my Wheel Horse 312-8 nearly a year ago at this point. I bought it primarily as a firewood tractor, for moving wood to and from the splitting station, racks, and house. I figured I'd find other uses for it but wasn't sure what! Well it's been coming in real handy this summer. With a hitch installed and a cargo carrier on the rear, this thing has been indispensable for my latest project: rebuilding a retaining wall. Over 100 blocks and dozens of bags of paver base and gravel. Of course the closest place I could have the supply delivery dropped off is about 50 yards from the project site. The Wheel Horse has made it easy to load blocks and gravel back and forth! Such a godsend

5 pointsChinese carbs for a Tecumseh are actually stocked in my garage. Neighbors bring me their snowblowers when the snow falls. A combination of bad gas and a long sit between uses usually clogs the carbs. It's faster to just throw on a new "Charburetor" than to rebuild the old one. I might just have one that will work on the HH100..

5 pointsHeaded to the town transfer station this morning and saw this at the end of someone’s driveway. Had my favorite price tag on it as well! Investigation has shown it to be an International IH#2 cart.

4 pointsI've being asked a few times both here on Redsquare and in person how I set this up. To give credit where it's due, this is an idea that I got from this site. I believe it was Richard @953 nut. Could have been others so I apologize if I'm forgetting someone.

4 pointsMelon Day takes place on the second Sunday in August. This year, it takes place on August 10. On this special day, we celebrate cantaloupes, galias, and all the other muskmelons. If you’re like us, you may have confused watermelons for melons at least once in your life, however, these two fruits are very different even though they stem from the same family. Melons, particularly muskmelons, have an important agricultural heritage and are the pride of the people of Turkmenistan, a country located in Central Asia. Today, they honor not only their well-groomed muskmelons but a fine crossbreed, named after their first president, the Turkmenbashi melon. China is the world’s largest producer of cantaloupes with over eleven million grown each year, the United States ranks sixth at about seven hundred fifty thousand.

4 pointsFirst things first here @JCM I’ve have been looking at the pin up girl for over forty years, so that image is engrained in my brain. Mentally she can go anywhere with me and she has. She was one of my first girlfriends! Good news is that after all this time she still looks the same! @ebinmaine Yes @WHX?? is correct, they are D-series mufflers. They are either rusty NOS or used very little, and will be for sale.

4 pointsTonight was alignment and spacer night after work. There’s still some play but much better than before. I also tightened up the slop in the tie rods.

3 pointsI finally finished restoring my 701 ! I began a restoration thread a little over 3 years ago, and for various reasons (other projects , work, new products , hand surgery etc ) the project kept getting pushed to the side. But now it's done so just enjoy the finished product. Engine and rear axle completely rebuilt, everything stripped to bare metal, all pits in the metal were filled, all stainless and grade 8 hardware throughout, very hard to find NOS 1576 Glasstex drive belt, Carlisle tires , K & B greasable hitch pin, K & B tie rod, all new wiring, reproduction shower head muffler and all stainless exhaust, you get the idea....no shortcuts taken. It's just a shame that someone before me destroyed the originality because it had a very unique and provable early life. It was originally sold new locally with a mix of 1961 and 1962 parts when new ( 1962 hood , 1962 and later " thin " steering fan gear. Two of the previous owners are well respected round hood experts , and it was sold by one of them at a large local Wheel Horse only auction about 8-9 years ago with the original parts and paint intact . That's when it got messed up .

3 pointsGetting ready for a fishing trip - one problem I always face is finding a level spot for my Banjo burner. The fact that it has a circular base makes it hard to get level and be sturdy at the same time. If it's not perfectly level the oil in my 15" iron skillet runs to one side. So, while I had my welder out, I decided to remedy that problem.
-
3 pointsI know some don't like Chineseum carbs, but I've had good luck with them so far. Especially when you need a "temporary" model to allow proper rebuild of the original. Either way, it might be better than original when it comes to a Tecchy! @rmaynard You did well on that tractor. As an old buddy used to say, "Not sure if it's any good, but the price was right!" Another machine saved. Always a good thing!
-
3 pointsI cut my Wheel Horse Teeth on a B-80 as a kid, you would have thought that I had a full size Farmall, at least in my mind.
-
3 pointsDon you did well in that hall. Looks like you have plenty of parts to go with it. Time to build some new shelves to store all those good parts. Enjoy the project.
-
3 pointsDon't be such a Tecumseh hater just yet. My 654 Tecumseh runs great. I mow with it & plow snow too. Actually can count on a 60yr old tractor still to.this day! Installed a cheapo Chinese carb- it starts easy & runs good, much to my surprise. I sold my 604 to a guy who bought it for his grandson. He stays in contact & its still running good. I had put another Chinese carb on that one too. Seems like if you get a good runner the Tecumseh can be ok?? I still prefer to have a Kohler. I think the Clinton in my RJ is more finicky than either one of my past of current Tecumseh's.

3 pointsI’m sure you can breathe some life back into that fine machine. Not much hope for that operator, though. But if he starts driving it, RUN!

2 pointsToday we went out to the very end of Long Island, to Montauk. The sport fishing capital of the world, some say it was the inspiration for the movie Jaws. We had lunch at a nice restaurant at the inlet to Montauk harbor watching the pleasure and commercial fishing boats come and go. I’m sure most of you know the Billy Joel song Downeaster Alexa. The boat in the last two pictures is that boat, the “Alexa” it’s actually his own boat. It’s docked a few towns to the east in Sag Harbor. I didn’t realize that was it until it was well past us. Quite possible it was him running the boat because he is known to captain his own vessel. Way off on the horizon is the Connecticut shoreline.

2 points@ebinmaine Perfect timing Eric, because I’m going to have two C-160 automatics for sale soon 🤣🤣
