6 pointsWelcome! Very nice tractor. Drive belt is 82"x5/8", PTO to deck belt is 103"x1/2", deck belt is 86"x1/2", all available at TSC. Some people prefer OEM drive belts. P/N for the blades is 106636. I like the XHT blades available on Amazon. Air filter kits are sold at TSC, sorry I can't remember the P/N. Spark plug is a Champion H10C. Engine oil is Rotella T1 30, no oil filter. 75-90W gear oil for the transmission. Plan to change the fuel lines, fuel tank grommet and shut off valve. Use the shut off valve with the built in screen. Ask lots of questions, someone here always knows the answer.

4 pointsOK - 4 possible solutions - all need to use a decent penetrant like PB or Kroil. The OE woodruff key is circular in shape with a flat in the center on the bottom. More on that later. With the key pointing up at the 12 o'clock position - as shown, spray the small gaps ate the end of the key & keyseat. That allows the juice to migrate in..... 1. You can try a 2 or 3 inch C clamp bearing down near the inboard end of the key to "rock" the other end up. then grab it with sidecutter pliers laying flat on the axle and pry it up. Or tap it up with a chisel & small hammer. 2. Some folks go right to the sidecutters without the clamp. 3. the key is soft and can be drilled & tapped. Tap a #8-32 hole in the middle thru, out the flat. insert a good grade screw and jack it out. 4. My favorite. Got a good pair of vise grips and an autobody slide hammer?? Marry the two together with a short length of threaded rod & a machined coupler. Works great and will pull twisted nails too.... had it for 45 plus years, never fails. You will damage the key in the removal process - get a new one.

When you get the Model numbers from the deck and tractor, you need to visit the manuals section of this forum and download what you need. https://www.propartsdirect.net/ is also good for the parts manual and usually puts the alternate part numbers in their parts list. I just finished a full refresh of a '89 312-8 and also have a '86 312-8. They are great machines that do most of what I need them too.

4 pointsWell finally joined the revolver ranks. Been wanting one for a long time and picked up this S&W 65-3 with a Simply Rugged Holster. Will be mainly used for target fun and woods carry. This was a police service gun from the 80s. I like the no fuss fixed sights and the 357 magnum with some 180 hard cast bullets will be a nice upgrade over my 9mm's.

3 pointsRuger LCP .380. one of the older models. I've painted the tiny fixed sites to help me in alignment, Green laser and Sneaky Pete holster. I also have a Ruger LCP .22 with same set up. The .380 is my CCW. The green laser allows me to cluster shots about size of paper plate at 21 feet. Which for me, who not a good shot, and 2.75" barrel suits me. I have carried this holster for more than two years. On the net, many poo poo this style of holster but it's exactly what I like. Comfortable to wear, pretty easy to remove for locations that personal protection is not allowed. I have never been asked what it's purpose is (even at church) and I have adapted it for other uses. The holster came with a plastic liner that helps hold the pistol in upright position. The liner wouldn't allow the pistol with laser installed to be inserted. By removing original and making my own liner, the gun fits and as an added benefit, my New Testament Bible slides in perfectly. This covers my needs as well as I can expect. I normally carry my phone on a belt holster, When CCW, the phone goes to shirt pocket and Sneaky takes it place. I purchased the .22 a year ago. I have access to a large lot of ammo so when I go to the range or to the farm, I get much more practice time. The .22 is not nearly as reliable but for plinking and practice, it works.

3 pointsJust another quick update here to let you know I haven't abandoned it. Summertime priorities have kept me pretty busy on other projects. An abnormally hot and humid July kept me from painting the sheetmetal. I finally got a couple days and took advantage. 2 parts Rusty Regal, 1 part mineral spirits and a dose of Majic hardener. I did spray the wheels with the cheap Harbor HVLP gun but this was my first attempt at the sheet metal. It's far from perfect but not bad. This morning I mounted the electric fuel pump before I bolted down the fender pan. It's now just a matter of putting the pieces back together. How long should I wait before I put the decals on?

3 pointsA related tip I glue a one of those small packs of desiccant (comes in medicine bottles etc,) to the inside cover of the points. I have never had to clean them or de-rust them since and the tractor starts even after the winter pause.

3 pointsActually he is correct Bob. Code states no compression fittings used as fuel lines. Now I gotta turn you in to the code police ... Me thinks Kohler used them long before codes tho but yes nice work for us purists! Two barb 90s and a short piece of fuel line work too. I have to pull the motor on the flame for repaint so this will get changed. Edit: BTW a drop of oil on any compression fitting goes along way to help with sealing.

3 pointsMy plate expired in March 2017. That's when PeeAaa quit issuing new plates and stickers and started using the current inspection sticker on the windshield as valid registration.

2 pointsThis was recently purchased and once I saw the custom hitch, I was even more excited about it! This is supposed to be a self powered tiller that slides into the sleeve hitch of an RJ. The PO had built a mid mount draw bar for his C series machine, and the lift bar still slides into the sleeve hitch, but is on a shackle of sorts. Yesterday I cleaned the points and fuel system. I have fuel and spark. I think my points gap is off, it only fires when it wants to. I’ll get to that soon.

2 pointsJust bought my first Wheel Horse tractor. It's a 312-8 that's in great shape. Previous owner hadn't used it much in several years so I talked him in to partying with it. It runs and mows fantastic for an old tractor, but where it's sat for several years it needs some maintenance and tinkering and either the carburetor cleaned or rebuilt. It has the 42 inch deck and is in desperate need of new belts and blades. Was hoping someone could help me with correct belt and blade sizes. I'm going to change the drive belt, oil and filter, ait filter, fuel filter and transmission fluid all at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2 pointsYou are using a different chemical makeup than we do. I'm thinking a month might be okay but I wouldn't do it any earlier. We've found that Rust-Oleum 2x wants to sit for at least 8 weeks. But that has no hardener in it speak of.

2 pointsI feel lucky. In Missouri it’s about $3.30 for 91 octane e free. Yep, Missouri has one of the lowest state gas taxes and you can apply for a refund if your vehicle weighs less that 26,000 lbs.

2 pointsThe deck on yours is a 42" Side Discharge. I would assume from the 80's, but they were pretty much all the same in the 80's and 90's even though the model numbers changed, mostly to denote the manufacture year. A lot of the parts (minus belts, blades, and a few other parts) were the same between the 42" SD and 48" SD. A quick way to tell the difference is the 42" height adjust is on the right and the 48" height adjust is on the left.

2 pointsWelcome to RS! Do you have the model numbers for the tractor and deck? Tractor model os under the seat. Mower model is on deck shell. I highly recommend replacing the shift boot. Water/debris can get in there. You'll know when you replace the tranny fluid, It comes out milky if contaminated. The 312-8 is a nice basic mower and very reliable. Nice pick up! -C

2 pointsAppears to me like that tab is bent allowing that to happen so tweaking it back into position with some needle nose pliers will make it contact the end of the screw and eliminate the catch

2 pointsHaving been raised on a farm that is still in the family I can appreciate your story. Farming is inherently dangerous but can be a very satisfying way of life. When my wife began meeting my family members she noticed one commonality, most were missing an appendage due to a farm accident. My grandfather started the farm with 100 acres and a team of horses, the fourth generation cousin who now operates the farm has 1,200 acres and all the modern machinery. He and two other multigenerational farmers combine their efforts and equipment farming over 4,000 acres. What took fifty to a hundred workers a few generation ago is now done by these three young men and the occasional hired man. My first cousin (third generation) and his wife operate the dairy portion of the farm with about 150 milking cows and one employee who operates the milking parlor.

1 pointWe tend to us a little shorthand around here, Rotella is in fact SHELL Rotella, the T1 contains Zinc which is best for the flat tappet cams used in our engines. It is listed for diesel engines but is superior to regular automotive engine oil. Tractor supply probably has i but we threw them (and you) a curve ball by saying Rotella.

1 pointDad'd 702 did the same thing. It ran great until you shut it off. The rings are quite a bit tired - carbon would bridge the spark plug gap giving a no start condition. An inline spark checker shows it HAS spark, but it is shorting out. Clean the plug, it starts right up......

1 pointCould be time to do some fuel system maintenance. Is there gas in the tank? Are you using gasoline with Ethanol? If you are then STOP. Ethanol will kill the fuel system. You can find a station that sells real gasoline on this site.https://www.pure-gas.org/ Check the outlet from the tank to see that it is not obstructed. Replace the fuel hose and filter. Check the fuel pump to see that it is pumping. The carburetor may need to be rebuilt.
