I was able to find a nice 854 close to me. Its in good shape, all pieces are there and he had a mower deck for it. Also had lights but I dont think they are WH lights but I picked them up anyway.

Had an opportunity to hit the show. I was very pleased to see that the show has grown over the years. Healthy flea market with lots of tools ( not a 10mm to be found, though). Spent some time with Bill and Will, a couple of local collectors.

Productive few days of doing an engine swap on my 418-A with one that I found locally that has a transmission issue. The original is worn out and starting to use alot of oil. It's all back together now and I mowed with it yesterday and the newer engine is working good so far. I also took the opportunity to replace the lift actuator with a unit that I rebuilt this past winter.

It is fun, it is growing more popular every day, it is National Disc Golf Day on August 2 this year! Celebrated on the first Saturday of August each year, this day honors the sport of disc golf. Like golf, but not entirely, this sport uses the same general rules and etiquette but requires a disc to play. Turns out, even the world recognizes the fun in this game; not only has its fame grown by leaps and bounds in India, but it is also the fastest-growing sport in the world!

Not my brightest day ...I had been sorting through my box of spark pugs... went to the Workhorse GT-1848 to see what plugs were in the B&S twin. pulled the front plug found it to be Bosch concentrated very hard on remembering the plug number. Went to mow later she didn't start well and was running a bit rough but when i engaged the blades something was wrong as she slowed way down. Opened the hood and you guessed it ...I hadn't put the plug wire back on... a 9 hp B&S can't handle hydro and 48" deck

When I was younger I did it that way too. Now I am 80 years old, have had a stroke and need a bit of mechanical help to do the job, but I can still get-r- done.

Coleman 100 w/212 Predator. I added a stage 2 performance kit so its probably closer to 14-15hp. Need to make a wheelie bar. Its scary considering that it originally was only 3hp. Guy I purchased it from bought minibike new & immediately installed Predator. He rode it 1x & was terrified of it. I wanted to get an ORV sticker for it & the Ohio DMV said I have to register it as a moped! 🤣 So a moped it is! Need to install a brake light & horn to make it "legal"

Having consumed more than most, I beg to differ Milo. Wabbits taste better than chickin. I had many beagles for over 30 years boarding 13 at one point. My last 10 years of rabbit hunting was spent without a gun. I enjoyed watching a good rabbit circle by me 2 or 3 times and came to believe the rabbits enjoyed the chase as much as the dogs. I have seen rabbits circle back and jump up on a stump and listen and watch for the dogs to catch up before the continue the chase. Another trick I have seen rabbits jump on the low end of a fallen log, hop to the high end and then back track to the low end and jump off as far as they can. This really confused the young hounds as they would race up the log and jump off the high end and never find another track. I could almost see the rabbits smiling when they pulled this trick. Now I just enjoy watching them mow my lawn.

agree, the scaler often more effective for pitted areas..... I often use the scaler as well -- more effective often than the 90 degree grinder or the wire brush --- I find the scaler tool especially helpful for hard to reach areas when doing rims - especially the deep rear rims the scaler gets into areas like creases the other tools or my hands can't easily get into etc -

Mine too. That's why I don't attempt to slide my decks in and out from the side while on my bad knees. Just roll it in from the front.

Here's what I use for decks. Harbor Freight pick up truck crane mounted on 2" hitch winch plate: Works great!

Check and see if the tow/haul valve under the fender pan is in the correct position. When was the last time the transmission fluid and filter was changed?

Looks like it would fit 8 hp Kohler in there. Dream up a fuel tank for it. And you can protect yourself from the chain by adding a torque converter with a cover. My boy is getting excited for hunting season. Last year he stoutly refused to use a firearm at all for deer. He ended up very frustrated by the end of the season when he hadn't even gotten off a shot. Earlier this week a guy I work with asked if I had any interest in a youth-model Ruger .243. Seems he bought it for his daughter and she is 100% uninterested. He let me take it home so my son could try it out, and after shooting it he claimed "This is my new favorite gun". So now he has his own deer rifle.

The older WHs had simple wiring. You are better off redoing it completely I use 14 g for everything 6ga for battery and starter I use the modern fuse and holders

Keep in mind that an electric fuel pump is more efficient at pushing fuel than pulling fuel. I mount the electric pumps as close and as low as possible. Be sure you have a fuel filter between the fuel tank and the fuel pump. I add another fuel filter closer to the carburetor.

My man said he is trying to rescue a 312-H, the 312-H was produced in 1990 to 1992, so if he knows it's a 312-H there is are just 3 years to chose from. All came with the Kohler M12 and according to all three wiring diagrams the are wired the same except the ignition switch changed at some point and the added seat switch. As Richard said his is a 1990/91. He says he has the original ignition switch, a photo of the back of it would help in stopping some of the guessing and assuming here. The 1990/91 have the same wiring diagram, over the years for me having the correct wiring diagrams goes a long way in rewiring a cobbled up, (lack of a better term) wiring mess.

Love to see a family member show some love to an abandoned We don't want your grandfather's Wheel Horse to sit in a shed wasting away either. 10 W 30 motor oil is probably what is in the transmission, pull the dip stich and lay it on a clean shop towel, if the oil is clear/amber it is motor oil, if it is pink it is ATF. The best filter is a NAPA 1410 or WIX 51410 and @squonk, one of out members here, has had good results using 10 W 40 in a not-so-strong Sundstrand transmission. Toro probably was in the process of phasing out the classic Wheel Horse design, as they were moving to more efficient deck designs and also to more modern manufacturing processes. The Classic Wheel Horse manufacturing process was expensive and time consuming and was forcing that tractor line into the more expensive market, though it wasn't keeping up with the more efficient machines in that market. We sometimes get caught up in the machine itself and forget how much it takes to make that machine. Toro eventually got out of the lawn tractor business altogether years ago, and in fact, contracted MTD to make their machines for a few years. Toro invested into the zero turn market, walk behinds, golf industry and commercial landscaping. Sad, I know, but that's where Toro went. If you would look at the other brands, you can see where the design philosophy move from horizontal engines with complicated deck drive belt configurations to vertical shaft engines with a more efficient, direct deck drive belt designs. Deere, Simplicity, Kubota, Cub Cadet, etc. all went that route and so did Toro until they got out of that market. Us, being used to and loving the old stuff, see this as a drawback and so we put the "cheap" moniker on it. It is what it is. Ingersoll tried to hang onto the old designs that Case used for their garden tractors and struggled on until they were forced to get out of that market and Eastman Industries took over. But that didn't go so well for Eastman. Will these new machines be around in 40 years....some will, but not all.

It’s not a @wallfish Wheel Horse Motorcycle, but it’ll do alright by me! I was invited to a lake day last Sunday with some friends. Someone offered me a mini bike trade for the Moto Mower I had for sale, and this was at my buddy’s house. I simply asked “how does that go?”, looking for real owner’s feedback. His response was, “You want it?” What? He said that I do enough for him and his wife in auto repairs, that he’d be glad to give it to me. And here we are, and I was able to just sell the tractor outright. This thing once I thoroughly cleaned the jet and emulsion tube, goes nearly 30 on the road!

That a very desirable tractor Get a free copy of the manual in the Manuals section. Remove the plate in front of/ below the seat where the transmission linkage and cam is. This is usually packed with grass crud. Clean this out and follow the Manuel to do some maintenanon that linkage.

Come to think of it @wallfish, did @SylvanLakeWH send me home with a centrifugal clutch just like that a few years back? Hmmm…. Honesty, I’d take quick acceleration over top speed any day!

I have found if deck i acquired has lots of pitting then having it professionally sand blasted rather than my own labor of wire brush and grinder pad that the sandblasting is worth the expense...it really gets into the rust pits....huge advantage having every bit of corrosion gone.....plus the paint job looks much better if that's important to you.

I never paint mine. If I have to mow in wet grass, I hose wash under the deck. Otherwise I remove the deck after mowing season and clean and wire brush the deck, then soak it with used motor oil and let it dry in the sun for several days before putting it in storage for the winter. Before storage, the blades are removed , sharpened, and balanced. The spindle bearings are greased. The belt guards and idler pully and slide bar is removed and this area is cleaned and lubricated.

An old fashion floor jack works well for removing rear tires. Just be careful as the tractors tend to be right side heavy and the frame will revolve on the front axle pivot pin....

And you just know that some guy named Kevin is going to fiddle with the sprocket sizes to speed up the "I hurt myself" process......

This thing is a riot, and maybe too fast for recording with one hand and riding with the other! I may have had a close call already in the field. I was going 8-10 mph and the front tire caught a rut. The bike kind of went down, I went over the handlebars, and somehow stuck the landing! I rotated enough to pull the bike back under me, hopped on and kept cruising.

Today, I repurposed a few extra coffee cups for workshop stuff. I built an exhaust pipe with assistance from my father and mounted the new muffler to it for the C -141. And drove it over to my house. it’s been it’s been sitting at my parents next door for the last 2 months or so. Just little things and painting now.

It just keeps getting better. The cool part is most of the add-ons or upgrades have been from scrap laying around in my garage!

Denali can come play with Milo. My two beagles grew up with a lab, they love labs.

Hmm.. I find all that to be too much work for R&R the deck - I always just slid it in from the side (which side depends on which side the deck height adjuster is on) far faster than hooking up a lift... As far as a lift for service work, I've been thinking to make one (out of wood, who needs steel.. other than the hardware and lift screw) just so I'm not bending over my tractors for extended periods (hard on my bad back) but as infrequently as I'd work on my tractors, I just can't justify the shop space one would take up..

I was looking at an old non usable deck I have laying around and the lift bars for the deck look like the correct size and the bar is 3/4" .looks like all I'll have to do is measure and cut the slots for the c clips and cut the slots in the bar I know that part doesn't need to be precise.I have some more questions later on.Thanks for the reply.

While some of you up north have just finished planting, or like @ebinmaine are just planting now. Our corn is about 8+ ft tall and most of the ears have been picked. The green beans were in front of the corn and were done. So the new plants are Okra and Peas. Most of the ear corn has been harvested. All blanched, then some frozen on the cobb and some cut off the cobb. The camp has 5 miniature Longhorns in a large area next to the garden. I have them spoiled and they come running when they see us at the garden. Sesides the shucks, I've begun cutting 5 corn stalks a day and had feeding them. Tomatoes have been good, but the 90+ temps have stopped them blooming/producing. My wife blanches then, peals them and freezes them in ice cube trays for future cooking use. The green pepper have finally begun producing, not sure why it took this long. Stuffed peppers for supper last night. My wife has made about 10 jars of pickels, as well as lots of cucumbers eaten fresh. No pictures, but the yellow squash are about done and will be replaced with more okra or peas. No pictures, but we have 3 water melons and 3 cantaloupe on the vines.
