8 pointsHello all, First time Wheel Horse owner. Have worked on them for customers at our shop for several years, but there are very few of them immediately local so we only see a handful every year. We mostly work on the 300/400 series. We see mostly Cubs here, as there is a dealer down the road from us. Excited to have received this one. It was a single owner machine, bought new back in '71. It was used every year by a friend's grandfather until somewhat recently (~5ish years). This thread will be updated with data and posts from our YouTube channel as we go through the revival process. It needs a ton of work, but last week we were able to get it running, driving, and mowing again. The biggest hurdle there was in needing to rewind the electric PTO clutch. First time attempting a rewind/repotting. It went really well and we have about 5 hours of heavy mowing on the machine since the repairs. Looking forward to learning more and being able to share the experience. Revivals are what started our YouTube channel and continue to be the source of joy that keeps things interesting and fun. 7 pointsIt’s not a @wallfish Wheel Horse Motorcycle, but it’ll do alright by me! I was invited to a lake day last Sunday with some friends. Someone offered me a mini bike trade for the Moto Mower I had for sale, and this was at my buddy’s house. I simply asked “how does that go?”, looking for real owner’s feedback. His response was, “You want it?” What? He said that I do enough for him and his wife in auto repairs, that he’d be glad to give it to me. And here we are, and I was able to just sell the tractor outright. This thing once I thoroughly cleaned the jet and emulsion tube, goes nearly 30 on the road!

6 pointsDrove to the Steam Pageant grounds today to mow the grass on my site. As customary as to not get run over by a garbage truck, You pull over onto the shoulder way early before turning. As I did I realized just ahead was a pile of manure left over from a leaky Honey Wagon! No way to avoid it. I got out of the Ridgeline at the site and exclaimed, " It sure stinks around here!" When I got home and pulled into the garage I got out and said "Yup still stinks!" Went to the car wash and got back home. "Yup still stinks!" This one is gonna take a bit!

6 pointsWhy celebrate World Wide Web Day every August 1? Because without the web, the Earth would be a super lonely place. Don’t believe us? Well, before the World Wide Web (WWW) was created, people had to spend a lot of money to contact someone far away. Today, voice calls, chats, and video calls are available at the click of a button. This is just one of the advantages the WWW brought to the world. It also made it easy to search information, access songs, find news online, and do thousands of other things that have empowered the world today. Thank your lucky stars you were born in a world that has the World Wide Web!

6 pointsThis thing is a riot, and maybe too fast for recording with one hand and riding with the other! I may have had a close call already in the field. I was going 8-10 mph and the front tire caught a rut. The bike kind of went down, I went over the handlebars, and somehow stuck the landing! I rotated enough to pull the bike back under me, hopped on and kept cruising.

5 pointsI have a couple door stop shaped wood wedges that I tap in the gaps between the frame and the top of the front axle.

5 pointsI never paint mine. If I have to mow in wet grass, I hose wash under the deck. Otherwise I remove the deck after mowing season and clean and wire brush the deck, then soak it with used motor oil and let it dry in the sun for several days before putting it in storage for the winter. Before storage, the blades are removed , sharpened, and balanced. The spindle bearings are greased. The belt guards and idler pully and slide bar is removed and this area is cleaned and lubricated.

5 pointsNever used an engine hoist to lift an entire tractor, but till you got the required rigging on, I don't think you would have much lift height remaining. I use a small overhead hoist to lift the front end only for installing and removing decks. To lift the entire tractor, I think you would be better served to use a garden tractor lift or a scissor lift table if you want it higher.

5 pointsAnd you just know that some guy named Kevin is going to fiddle with the sprocket sizes to speed up the "I hurt myself" process......

3 pointsAn old fashion floor jack works well for removing rear tires. Just be careful as the tractors tend to be right side heavy and the frame will revolve on the front axle pivot pin....

3 pointsPicked up 1960 Suburban from @buckeyes today! Gotta decide what to do for power. I have what I believe is the original 4hp Kohler for it. He gave me that engine a couple years ago

2 pointsHello all, First time poster here. Long time garden tractor enthusiast. Inherited a 1971 Raider 10 #10-0300 and will be reviving the unit this year completely mechanically. It was parked years ago due to a clutch issue. Since the electric clutch is NLA and hard to find used, we decided to rewind the clutch field coil, and successfully got the unit back to work! It's a real tank, and our first Wheel Horse. We would like to use it for a little of everything around the shop, most importantly for front blade work. I looked over the attachments guide in this forum and I see the part number is NLA for proper front blade for this unit. -What are our options here? -Do other series of blades interchange? -When looking for a used one what all would need to be included in order to make sure it will hook up properly to the Raider? Revival series began last week on YouTube: Website for all our business and projects (lots of Cub Cadet stuff): Soluna Garage

2 pointsOnce the first tire comes off the other side WILL go down so don't jack the rear any higher than needed. I prefer to jack the rear up and use jackstands or cribbing under both sides to stabilize the frame prior to doing any work. I use my engine hoist to lift the front end for mower removal / instal like @Ed Kennell.

2 pointsCould be vapor locked from no fuel being in carb bowl, new filter, the lines and the pump. Try a squirt of fuel directly into the carb with the air filter off and see if she fires up. You might need to repeat that process if it does fire until the system is full of fuel

2 pointsGeeze, you sound like my boss. He also doesn't see the wisdom in the saying "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Then it's a party".

2 pointsPreviously I posted about a project of concrete weights being placed under a dock as anchors. Here is the original thread. One suggestion was to use a pickup truck crane which is what I did. Here are some pics a helper took of our successfully completed work. Nearly 2000 lbs of concrete blocks were lowered into place.

2 pointsI have looked at the drtawings, it may be a high end lawn tractor. The steering gear is cut steel plate, typical lawn tractor. The transmission is a Tuff Torq K61, that don't say much to me about ground ingageing. If you could get $500 for it I would say you did real good. Be best to keep it as a mower and use it.

2 pointsHello, and Generally after sitting any good amount of time, the points can use a good cleaning. Try that first, and get back to us on the results.

2 pointsMy Commando 8 and 854, both have vacuum fuel pumps, in other words no arm. Like John and Mike posted, neither does yours, most likely.
-
2 pointsIt's also a source of a lot of scams and other, let's just say distractions. As with anything if used properly it has many benefits.
-
2 pointsI would think you are in a good area and plow/snow blade should be rather easy to find.

2 pointsThanks for clarifying. Lots to learn. This is the fun part, to me. I am in my mid 40s, in decent shape (as I need to be for running an outdoor power repair business), so I think it will be fine without electric assist.
-
2 pointsIn spite of the quality built into a Wheel Horse and the outstanding condition it is in, at the end of the day you have a 20+ year old used lawn mower and the Big Box Stores sell new ones for not too much more. You may want to look around on Marketplace and Creig's List to see what comperable units are being offered for.
-
2 points$ 250 is top dollar for the blade with bracket which explanes why it hasn't sold in 29 weeks. Make an offer of $ 150 ande be prepared to walk away if it isn't accepted. Posting a link to marketplace or other selling sites is frowned upon on Red Square may want to edit it out, you can copt and paste the picrure from the ad though.
-
2 pointsAny of the above listed Wheel Horses will have the same snow / dozer blade you are looking for and the rear axle bracket the plow attaches to is also interchangable.

2 pointsThank you - I appreciate that general description as well. Most of my experience is with Cubs, and they didn't have nearly the same amount of plow changes or options. When you say "late" and "early" bracket design, does that refer to a certain era of WH tractors? I think what I might be finding as I browse Marketplace and Craigslist is that I'll end up buying a parts machine that most likely won't be a Raider series, but comes with a plow. Would be helpful to be aware of what series in general interchange, if they are already set up with a plow. The most common series in my area (southeastern Ohio) is the 300/400/500 and the C-series.

2 pointsWe’re nearly on the same schedule. I just had my third hernia operation on the 18th. I’d been nursing this one for a long time until it popped out on the 3rd and I had to go to the ER to get it shoved back in. The first two docs couldn’t get it in. The third - who ended up being my surgeon- was hellbent and he sent it home on his third attempt. He told me I was going to regret my decision not to take any of the pain meds they offered. It was…quite unpleasant 🥵. But once it was back in I didn’t regret my choice. They got me scheduled for the permanent fix and told me not to be as stupid as i normally tend to be in the interim. Procedure itself was a laparoscopic dream and fortunately on a Friday so I had the weekend to recoup. Prior mesh on other side was still intact so they didn’t have to mess with it, but they did find I had more than one spot to repair. Went in at 5:30 am and was home by 1:00 pm and the hospital I used was almost an hour away. Other than the bloat from being pumped up with air during the procedure this one was easier than my first two. I wouldn’t do this as a hobby, but it wasn’t bad at all. I will admit that I was tired after work the first two days. I think the trick with the BMs is to get started on the softeners in the leadup to the procedure. And adjust the diet ahead of time if you tend to eat a constipatory medley. Within two days I was already feeling good enough that I’d entered that dangerous phase where I feel like I can go back to schlepping wheel weights around but I’m not healed enough to pull it off. Now, almost two weeks later, other than the obvious marks on my tummy where they poked me it’s like nothing even happened. Hang in there and you’ll catch me in no time at all!!! Steve

2 pointsToday, I repurposed a few extra coffee cups for workshop stuff. I built an exhaust pipe with assistance from my father and mounted the new muffler to it for the C -141. And drove it over to my house. it’s been it’s been sitting at my parents next door for the last 2 months or so. Just little things and painting now.
-
2 pointsIf that arm disappeared --- it went into the crank case. Better get it out before trying to start it again or you'll be rebuilding it again. I'm assuming you rebuilt the engine and would have seen / noticed if it was actually a manual pump with an arm on it or vacuum pulse pump, which does not have an arm. A vacuum pulse pump can be rebuilt with a new diaphragm if that's the case

2 pointsMet up with Pullstart briefly today and got him the tires that were on this tractor, he has some much better tractors for those to go on. And got parts from him for this tractor, I will get some pictures and such tomorrow. Very much thanks for his efforts of getting me parts. After I met with him, I got this Brinly plow from FB marketplace that wasn't far away. Used very little and looks like it was probably stored inside.

2 pointsI just thank all who served - ground or air - to make our freedom possible...

1 pointThe ones I made i used a 3/4 collar to lock it in place. The bushings came from McMaster Carr. I used a rear hitch pin for the 3/4 shaft. The pics are from my archive notes. I don't have any on hand to offer better dimensions. I sold the last one I had to @Handy Don at the show this year. He may be able to provide more info??

1 pointI ran into this band on YouTube as part of a "Somebody to Love" kick recently, one of the more creative covers I've heard, very nicely done. I don't know where they came from, or what ever happened to them. I see 4 videos on their channel, all from this same recording session, and nothing on FB since 2016. Here's another one of their tunes, I'm guessing an original? Goosebumps.
-
1 pointI was able to get it all figured out and get the blower off. I'm not sure about getting the lift chain and clip reinstalled again though! (Lol!) As I live in the city and have a small driveway, but very long sidewalks, I'll more than likely just use the snowblade instead.

1 pointIf you find yourself near Dayton, Ohio, definitely check out the National Museum of the US Air Force. Wear comfortable walking shoes because you will spend all day there.
-
1 pointHere is a picture of that axle pin. And I also got this seat for $10 it's the same one I got on my other plow horse the 73' and I like it on that one.
