8 pointsThe first peacetime all-Black army regiment, which we honor on Buffalo Soldiers Day, July 28th each year, was formed mainly to keep order in the Wild West after the Civil War. In such a rough-and-tumble place, where unknown natural dangers and thieves abounded, the buffalo soldiers had extremely low desertion rates. These brave men of the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments were inexplicably named the ‘buffalo soldiers’ not by their own leadership, but by the Native American tribes they came into contact with — and no one quite knows why! These troops helped catch cattle thieves, protect national parks, ensure the safe travel of settlers from the East, and much more. Today, we honor their service in helping our country stay safe, and being a groundbreaking step towards greater racial equality in the military.

6 pointsHanded down to me by Dad - I remember ( 14 years old ) 1979 Becker's lawn and garden backing up the driveway and dropping it off . Restored non worker today

6 pointsOccasionally I will get a gift card for gas, and an occasional beer in the snowbank. I help out the widow across the street, the retired single lady next to her and my neighbors aside of me with snow removal. I have been accused of enjoying doing it and pled guilty to the charges.
-
6 pointsI purchased my 1976 B-80 brand new from Chandlers. I also purchased a 1984 GT-1100 new from Highway 19 but I no longer have it.

6 pointsi plowed for two older neighbors for years. i received gift cards to grocery stores, beer, scratch tickets and a used cadillac! (2000 STS)

5 pointsExcellent show this year with the best weather. This was the Saturday show not Sunday. Nice temps and not humid for a change. There were a lot more heavy trucks than I have ever seen this year. Bi-Planes taking off and landing was nice as well. @Handy Don Tried not to overload you with too many Chevrolet pics. Enjoy

5 pointsI bought this 210-H brand new in 1990. Owned 20 years. Had to replace the seat, a tie rod end and a charging diode.
-
5 pointsI used stilts all the time finishing drywall and hanging grid ceilings. And I agree cords and stairs were major obstacles to navigate. Seems everyone working with you had to have their own cord.
-
5 pointsNever cash, but my chipper/shredder on the front of my 314-8 has earned me plenty of free beers and a lot of good will
-
5 points@c-series don very cool! Thank you for posting. You know you are getting older when three aircraft you have worked on are now represented in a museum... F-14 Tomcat (Anytime Baby!), AH-1 Cobra, and UH-1 Huey. The F-14 from VF-143, squadron name, "The Puking Dogs" Dan

5 pointsI have already done this on a couple of that passed through my shop on their way to a new owner. If it is going to the right new owner the price isn't the primary objective.
-
5 pointsNot even close for me - 2015... C-105. My son was gifted it from my brother for use in his lawn and snow business... I "inherited" it when he went off to college. Here he is after it came off the trailer.

5 pointsI was an airframes structures mechanic on the A4 Skyhawks in the Marines back in the day - so I’m partial to them

5 pointsIt wasn’t extra money, but it was money I made to pay for my tractor. In 1984 I bought my Work Horse GT-1800 brand new to mow commercially. I paid it off in less than two years and even saved up a little bit for a small down payment on my first truck! I mowed commercially with it for 8 years before giving up the mowing business. I wish I had an hour meter on that tractor, as I not only mowed with it but also tilled many gardens and plowed many driveways. Now after restoration it’s in retirement, and still in my possession 41 years later!

3 pointsFound a 1057 local right in town for sale. Was asking $400, now its down to $350. Got me thinking........ Price seems reasonable?? Definitely notice belt guard missing. Also saw what looks like mounting bracket for possible center grader blade?? Don't really have anymore room for another tractor & don't really need a "working" tractor. More to just satisfy my hoarding needs! 🤣🤣 Question is to buy or not......🤔

3 pointsHaven't made any money with the Wheelhorse but while prepping a pole barn for a cement floor the owner asked if I would haul off the 520H that I now own. I said "Oh, yeah, I guess I could." While grinning inside. It sat for about ten years so six hundred dollars later I was puttering around my yard. Then I found this site.

3 pointsMy brother owns a Plumbing and Handyman company and has a customer with a 1/4 mile driveway full of potholes that needed filling. I’ve been working with him two or three days a week since I retired back in April. He’s on vacation and asked me if I wanted to do it and of course I said sure. I brought my 314 H and my small dump trailer. My trailer was comfortable with 35 shovel fulls per load, and I did 40 loads. It took me five hours in the miserable heat. The 314, like always, worked like a beast. So now I have a few dollars of funny money I’m curious if any of you have used your tractors to make a few extra bucks?

3 pointsSon#3 called and said "Dad I need help, I broke a bolt off on my car transmission" He's a software trouble shooter for software used in many electronic financial transactions, (data in motion) so he's kind of techie. But I have to give him credit, he tries to learn and do a lot of house and hands on stuff himself. He had rotated tires, changed engine oil, and was changing transmission oil on his 2017 Chevy Equinox. It has a semi sealed transmission, no filter, no dipstick, but manufacture recommend changing transmission oil every 45k miles. He watched a YouTube where the guy pulled one bolt to remove an O-ring sealed speed sensor to verify full level. Speed sensor is located under front left wheel wheel, pic has tire removed and wheel skirt pulled back to the right. His driveway is too sloped for jack stands, so car is on asphalt pavement street, 97F 2pm. Have I mentioned that broken bolts challenge me! @adsm08 you came to mind as I scratched my head looking at this. I thought about options, but decided dealer or local shops would just say transmission case needs to be replaced. So......I can't make it any more broke! I brought a Dremel with a 1/4" flat end stone to try to square end of bolt for a good center punch mark. I got a small center punch, bolt seemed fairly hard to be going into an aluminum housing. I started drilling with a 1/8" left hand bit, but it quickly walked to the side of the bolt. I also had a 1/4" rounded end Dremel bit and with difficulty ground a cone into end of bolt (ground a little bit of surrounding aluminum too!) I decided since bolt seemed hard, I needed a really sharp/hard cobalt drill bit. Checked on line and headed 7 miles to town, Ace hardware. While I went to town I had him search parts list and find length of bolt and thread. I didn't want to drill to far and cause other problems! M6 thread, guy at Ace said they didn't carry metric taps, but when I looked there was a lone M6 tap on the hanger. Miracle #1. Thankfully the sharp bit and the ground cone got my drilling started straight. (and I prayed to St Joseph the whole time I drilled for it to go straight) At close to depth I tried an EZ-Out but no movement.. I kept praying and put the left hand 1/8" bit back in the drill and gently drilled with a careful /slight side pressure. The bolt started to move a little! Back to the EZ-Out, and it slowly unscrewed. My prayers were answered, Miracle #2 it drilled as close to center as imaginable! P.S. while my son was looking for bolt length he found there is an actual square headed level plug on the rear side of the same left wheel well. So the YouTube video guy was wrong, or doing it the hard way. Cleaned all the metal shaving away multiple times. I let him button it up, add transmission oil, and drive it around as I packed my tools up. He was kicking himself for breaking the bolt, I never ask how he broke it. I told him I've broke my share!) But reminded him I always try to watch multiple YouTube videos.

3 pointsVery cool. Many thanks! Dad and granddad were Air force. Grampa was a pilot, Dad was a Mechanic. Growing up in the Midwest we would go to S.A.C museum and airshows. Folks would gather around to listen to them thinking they worked there being so knowledgeable. As a kid it made little sense. Just proud and could not comprehend how they gathered so much information about aircraft. Thanks, Great memories!

3 pointsAfter work, I had some silver pin striping so I figured I’d try it out on the C-141 bezel. It's a bit more of an interpretation of a C series bezel, than an exact copy. I still might tweak it some more.
-
3 pointsWorked on my son's custom build frames welded and seats mounted the rest is placed for now for ideas. If you didn't see the build the transmission is toast on this tractor so I'm making something cool still from it
-
3 pointsSo I welded the frame today made a sliding adjustable seat mount. Trying to judge the bed and fender placement I'll remove the fenders from the original bed. I still need to remove the fuel tank it will allow me to move the engine up a lot. See what happens
-
3 pointsTook the 520-H for its first night “cruise with the lights on” lights are bright and the look of them looking a bit halogen is kinda growing on me but will definitely get replaced with the lights like I have on the C-145.

3 pointsLike @ebinmaine said, I have one Just haven’t had it out since last year. I’m fortunate that at my age, almost 67, I can still do (and enjoy) manual labor. I was a pencil pusher my entire career, and I’ve had a neck and two back surgeries but if I can avoid stepping in a pot hole or missing a landing step (it was always the simplest things that caused my back issues), then I’m ok 😁 Last week I worked with my nephew taking down a large deck that was 10’ off the ground. He cut it up and I humped the wood up the hill to the dumpster. They call me cause I’m cheap labor 🤪

3 pointsI clear the snow from 4 neighbors driveways. I have received gas and restaurant gift cards, books, maple syrup, and thank you cards.

2 pointsI had my surgery today. The surgeon said there were 3 hernias and it would be a 1 to 2 hour surgery. 3 1/2 hours later he reported there were multiple hernias he repaired that did not show up in the MRI. All went well and I was sent home with a pain management pump that I will have fo 5 days. Now I have to follow orders for a timely recovery. 5 to 8 weeks is the target. Jay

2 pointsYeah, guy on YouTube is an idiot. That transmission is the same-ish as the Ford 6F50/55, which I happen to have apart on my bench at work right now. They both drain from a pipe plug on the bottom. The Ford is 11mm, not sure about the Chevy. Ford has a dipstick that's part of the pan, Chevy should have a level plug near the axle shaft, but I thought they had a dipstick/fill hole in the top of the pan, probable under the air cleaner. They do have a filter, but total transmission disassembly is required to replace it.

2 pointsYesterday I was setting in the shop sipping tea with a neighbor when I heard a twin engine airplane flying over. Those old twin engine prop planes make a unique sound as they lumber along. I don't know what kind it was but the bright polished aluminum shown brightly. By the time I found my binoculars, it was too far gone. We wondered if it was heading southwest from the Oshkosh fly in. I'm glad there are folks out there that have the resources to preserve these flying machines and still use them.

2 pointsOver the last 50 years I've read a fair amount of information on the Native "American" and several publication stated the reason for them calling them "Buffalo Soldiers" was when they first started encountering them their dark skin and there head hair (think afro) they look a bit like a buffalo when facing them. This may not be the truth but it certainly sounds plausible, think about it.
