Excellent show this year with the best weather. This was the Saturday show not Sunday. Nice temps and not humid for a change. There were a lot more heavy trucks than I have ever seen this year. Bi-Planes taking off and landing was nice as well. @Handy Don Tried not to overload you with too many Chevrolet pics. Enjoy

My trigger for picking up my first Wheel Horse was seeing my neighbor's Raider 10 buried back in the corner of his shed, along with a host of attachments. It has a hole in the side of the block, and he says he's saving it for a retirement project. When I brought home my C-120, he was almost as excited as I was. Well today he came rolling up on a '76 B-100 8-speed he picked up from the original owner who is heading for an assisted living facility. It was listed for $650 and my neighbor was going to give him the full asking price (w/snowplow). The gentleman showed him receipts for everything that has ever been done to it, including a recent one where his mechanic pulled the head and carb and gave it a full service. The old boy wanted to drive it one last time, so my neighbor let him drive it up on the trailer. When he went to pay, the old man says, "Well, I think it's going to a good home so just give me $500."

Back about 8 or 9 years ago I built a pole trailer for pulling logs out of our forest. The main beam is 8 feet. The usable cargo area is just under 6 feet. It was a great experiment but I never did get the axle quite right. Too light duty. After using it for a season or three we decided it was easier to get the Monster Splitter down in the forest and process the firewood near where each tree 🌳 was felled. That trailer has been setting idle since. I've mulled over adding a flat floor and sides but we have the two normal yard trailers already. Over the years we've cleared LOTS of forest pathways and cleared the whole area around the garden. Nowadays we have more space to work. We've decided to revisit the idea of pulling 5 to 10 foot logs up to the front yard where the splitter is usually setting. Here's a video showing the thoughts. The first repair/ modification is to make an axle that can hold a load. A few years ago I had a friend make this angle iron cross frame. My intention was to weld a pair of axle stubs to it. I've never welded anything this thick and my welding "skills" - aren't. I could and should learn but I have no materials to practice on and likely won't tackle anything this thick again soon. After studying the situation for a bit I decided this could absolutely be bolted. I drilled a plethora of holes 🕳 in various areas and depths today. Here it is on the hand truck I used to drag it up from down back. I was in thinkerin' mode. Here I've removed the remnants of the old axle and its attachment points. I removed and replaced many of the bolts. I drilled (3) 1/2" diameter holes in each axle stub. Also drilled 3 matching holes in the support brace. There will be one more long bolt 🔩 in the empty holes 🕳 of each axle stub. The metal cross brace is held to the wooden one by several bolts going into and /or through both. Tomorrow I'll see about getting wheels on it.

We were in northern Connecticut today to look at purchasing a camper( which we did!) and had some time to kill, so this is where we went. I took some pictures for you folks!

My brother owns a Plumbing and Handyman company and has a customer with a 1/4 mile driveway full of potholes that needed filling. I’ve been working with him two or three days a week since I retired back in April. He’s on vacation and asked me if I wanted to do it and of course I said sure. I brought my 314 H and my small dump trailer. My trailer was comfortable with 35 shovel fulls per load, and I did 40 loads. It took me five hours in the miserable heat. The 314, like always, worked like a beast. So now I have a few dollars of funny money I’m curious if any of you have used your tractors to make a few extra bucks?

Walk on Stilts Day is celebrated on July 27 every year, and we’re going to celebrate it by putting our stilts’ walking skills to the test. Can you imagine that stilts walking went as far back as sixth-century ancient Greece? Stilts are a set of poles with foot straps used to elevate the wearer above the ground when walking. Stilts make the wearer taller than usual and are convenient for walking over muddy or unstable ground. Stilt walking is widely associated with the circus, where performers juggle and joust on stilts to the crowd’s delight. Stilts are also a common sight at parades, festivals, and functions.

My mother has a saying about times like that: In this house, we don't believe in divorce. We believe in murder, but not in divorce.

Growing up we routinely built a pool in the creek on our farm. There was an area where the creek had eroded the black dirt down to a nice limestone/soap stone bottom. A few boulders stuck up enough for us to fill the gaps with smaller stones and clay. Heavy rains would wash it out, but the boulders remained for us to rebuild again. Before entering, we would check the pool for water moccasins, frogs, or any creature that dared come in view of our trusty pellet guns on the ready. When Mom would see our muddy clothes, she would just say undress outside and head for the shower. She knew boys would be boys.

We've all dated a few uglies in the past. This tractor was nasty. I " think" it was a Raider 14. Bought it for the AC mid grader that was on it. It had threaded rods for tie rod ends and a 80 lb. wrecking ball on one wheel for weight! Then there was this Commando 800 with the black eye the the Late Great Waldo "had to have" I warned him to get a tetanus shot with the seat that was on it!

Found some wheels & tires to use yesterday afternoon. This morning I got the lug holes touched up to 1/2" and mounted them on the trailer. Also order the last couple bolts from Bolt Depot. It measures 44.5" across the widest bulge of the tires. Tread center to center is 38".

Me too. Everything I have is modified and not one machine is 100% factory correct. Very few of my attachments are unmodified, and most are complete fabrications. And let me say I love Wheel Horse equipment. It's just rare to find complete machines here that aren't chopped up already. I've always had to do the best with what I have. Sorry for posting the same old pictures. I'll get new ones when it isn't 102 degrees with 80% humidity. At 10:00 PM last night, it was still 89 degrees here. It's bleeping warm!

Found a 1057 local right in town for sale. Was asking $400, now its down to $350. Got me thinking........ Price seems reasonable?? Definitely notice belt guard missing. Also saw what looks like mounting bracket for possible center grader blade?? Don't really have anymore room for another tractor & don't really need a "working" tractor. More to just satisfy my hoarding needs! 🤣🤣 Question is to buy or not......🤔

@c-series don Very cool Don! Bought my first WH new in 1989. It makes me wonder, who on this forum has owned their WH from new the longest? Maybe an interesting new post.

It wasn’t extra money, but it was money I made to pay for my tractor. In 1984 I bought my Work Horse GT-1800 brand new to mow commercially. I paid it off in less than two years and even saved up a little bit for a small down payment on my first truck! I mowed commercially with it for 8 years before giving up the mowing business. I wish I had an hour meter on that tractor, as I not only mowed with it but also tilled many gardens and plowed many driveways. Now after restoration it’s in retirement, and still in my possession 41 years later!

I think the tv/computer games thing is because they just don't know what else is out there. My kids watch TV, and they play games, mostly Minecraft, but they go outside. My son is frequently happier with a hatchet, or a saw, or a fishing pole in his hands than he is with a video game. He fights with me over who mows because we both want to do it. My daughter is a bit more of a screen addict, but she also loves playing with her dolls, or working in her flower garden. She isn't much for actually fishing, but she does like to ride along on the boat and read.

We have a joke about that too, in my house. My family, on both sides, usually gets to at least 90 in pretty good shape. My wife's family usually doesn't get to 70. I like to tell her my second wife hasn't even been born yet, gonna get me a Bill Belichick deal when she dies. Then she hits me.

Some are bolted and some are welded. Only matters if once installed it is not a the proper angle to do its job. As for the front axle pin, I found that my axle was shifting fore and aft within its bracket. I got a pack of various-thickness shims to eliminate most of that play.

I regularly mow the lot next door that belongs to the lady across the street. She will stop by a time or two a year and drop off a thank you card with $50 or $100 in it. I've given up telling her that it isn't necessary.

I remember when I worked in home construction guys spackling wearing stilts. I remember one of them telling me one of the things he feared most was stepping on an extension cord and having it roll. Giving him what he called a half inch heart attack!!

I love to hear stories like this! Not about someone going to an assisted living facility, but about a tractor that has been well cared for going to a good home where it will be appreciated. Personally I have been lucky enough to have had a few nice tractors (all Wheel Horse) actually willed to me or just given by their owners because they knew that I would take care of them the way that they would. The only downfall of this is that I now feel obligated to keep them and would feel bad about selling them. I realize that someday they will all have to go, with a select few that I will leave to my family to decide their fate. Hopefully that’s not something I have to worry about for a long time. Anyway @Bar Nuthin I’m happy for your neighbor for getting that tractor, and happy for you for having a neighbor who appreciates these tractors as much as we do!!

Yessir. Another one of the reasons I prefer bolt 🔩 together assembly on most things. I figure in this case if the idea functions well but the bolts are the weak link I'll have a friend weld it properly. I really don't believe the fasteners will fail with our intended use.

I'm out. I wasn't even born in 84. My dad bought our first WH new in 88, and still has it. I think my son uses it more than he does though. Says their 414 and Cub are "too fancy". He says that about the 310-8, but it's at least closer to what he likes.

Like @ebinmaine said, I have one Just haven’t had it out since last year. I’m fortunate that at my age, almost 67, I can still do (and enjoy) manual labor. I was a pencil pusher my entire career, and I’ve had a neck and two back surgeries but if I can avoid stepping in a pot hole or missing a landing step (it was always the simplest things that caused my back issues), then I’m ok 😁 Last week I worked with my nephew taking down a large deck that was 10’ off the ground. He cut it up and I humped the wood up the hill to the dumpster. They call me cause I’m cheap labor 🤪

Pull a piece of soffit down......the bats will be in there within a week. My daughter had this happen and the gap was small. Exterminator came out and said no go. (she thought it was ground squirrels at first) Can't touch them but he also said wait till evening and when they are all out push the soffit back in place they will move on. We have tons of bats here. they are cool to watch, like mini fighter jets.
