12 pointsSo with the destruction of the transmission is my suburban, I have decided to build something a little different and it's a little safer and easier for my kids. So I am building what I call a doodle horse. Ideas are from the doodle bug conversion in the past. I am extending the frame rails and mounting the engine behind the seat. I went with a belt drive tourqe convertor that drives by chain a forward and reverse gear box to a soild chain drive axle. It has one mechanical disc brake which I will use the original brake pedal. The whole tractor will be much longer then original so I wanted to make it look not goofy so I am cutting some rough cut oak boards and building a simple bed frame, steel frame wood sides and flooring. Here's some pictures. Don't mind the mess things have been crazy and I'm trying to finish this before the local show. I'll post more. I'm still waiting on the axle frame rails need to be finished tonight.

7 pointsAdd a marine primer bulb at a low spot in the fuel line. Two or three squeezes and you'll have instant starts. Your battery and starter will thank you.
-
7 pointsI see3 there was no rust on the inside of that hubcap.
-
6 pointsAs I mentioned earlier, I added a Marine primer Bulb on the C81. I got ambitious and mounted it under the seat pan with a spring loaded rod & knob under the seat. Had all the materials in house, why not.....

5 pointsDo this first, it will cost you about $15, if it's still not starting then go from there. Even if this doesn't fix the problem you've made it to where it will start up four time faster than it use to once you've fix your problem. Best $12 to $15 improvement I've ever made on my rear tank tractors

5 pointsPioneer Day, celebrated on July 24 every year, is a homage to the arrival of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pioneers in the state of Utah. Led by Brigham Young, the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pioneers settled in Utah in 1847 after years of religious persecution and traveling nonstop. Their prophet, Joseph Smith, had been murdered a few years earlier by a mob. Fearing for their lives and hoping to find a more peaceful place to settle, most members fled Illinois. Today, the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints community honors the day by holding rallies, parades, and fun contests throughout Utah and in regions of surrounding states originally settled by Mormon pioneers. Pioneer Day is also celebrated by many as a patriotic day. Pioneers, particularly members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pioneers, have worked hard to establish a name for themselves and their community in many states of America.

5 pointsStarted on the 314A project. Added Sta-Bil and fresh fuel. Tuned the carb ...opened low idle jet almost 1 turn, high jet was OK Started soaking fasteners with PB Cleaned up the hub caps and wheels Jack up one wheel and spin it while using the wire brush on a grinder, then aluminum foil rub. Ya think the fronts were well greased Pete?

4 pointsThank you. It's nice to have my humor appreciated. I made a similar joke to the wife earlier today and she threatened to leave me.

4 pointsNot so much bad, but dirty. The little valve discs can get crud under them. If that happens, fuel can drain back. I added a primer bulb on my C81 - no regrets. One other choice is to go with a low pressure electric fuel pump.
-
4 pointsIt was indeed the ignition ground wire. Thank you for all the help and I will probably keep asking questions😂
-
4 pointsProbably the only set of front hubcaps with no rust on the backside on planet earth! @953 nut beat me to it!
-
3 pointsA C-Series tractor with FEL seems a bit of overkill for "yarn work". My wife seems to get by just fine on that with only some crochet needles.

3 pointsOne of my Dad’s cars from the 50’s had a foot operated pump for the windshield washer fluid right next to the headlight dimmer pedal. The car was a hand-me-down from his rich uncle and aunt so it had all the options. Automatic transmission, fender skirts, an exterior windshield visor, heat, and even a radio!

3 pointsI would clean up the old bolts and nuts and reuse them, they are better quality than most of the off-shore junk being sold today.

3 pointsTrina and I got some more done on the new Horse Hauler trailer. A few days ago I had drilled the bores for the front D-ring attachment points. Earlier today she put a coat of Thompsons Water Seal on the deck. This evening I redrilled the wood (moisture swelling) and carriage bolted the D-ring holders in place. Following that we reattached the front holding strip for the deck boards. The plan is to recoat the whole deck next summer. At that point I'll likely also replace the bolts to keep corrosion at bay.

3 pointsThe roofing crew arrived this morning about 7am. Crew was 4 guys, who I assumed to be Amish, and a definitely non Amish guy - who was the driver and ground go fer guy. They got right at it. About 8:30, the 1x4 firring strips were all on. 9am when I left to take the dog for a walk, the east slope of the garage was done. 10am when dog and I got back, the front of the main house was on, and trim was starting to go up. The was done, a day the crew was loaded up, paid and rolled out at 1:15pm. That even included a lunch break around 10:30.

3 pointsIf the seat switch is still working the PTO will kill the engine unless you are sitting in the seat.

3 pointsAround here, there were many Doodlebugs made from 1920's cars that became the poor man's tractor.... Mostly at the southern end of the State down in 'Tater Country.
-
3 pointsTime for a bit of deferred maintenance to be done. As @Goldnboy mentioned, fuel hose could be old and degraded restricting fuel flow. Also the fuel pump valves could be leaking as @ri702bill suggested. A new fuel hose, filter and pump cleaning or replacement should get the job done. If you have been using gas with ethanol STOP. Ethanol will ruin fuel system components on small engines. To find a station that sells real gas use this site, https://www.pure-gas.org/

3 pointsI noticed during the last few months of mowing with the refurbed 312-8 that one of the fuel tank captured nuts had developed a seep. No worries, had some about to expire fuel tank sealant at work so I sealed up both captured nuts and add a flat washer. Leak check was good using the blue dinosaur juice.

2 pointsMost of you are likely to be aware that maintenance needs to be done to water softeners. I've been noticing that the shower doors are getting the hard water lime look so I began investigating and discovered that our twenty year water softener has not been serviced properly--make that not at all. What got my attention was the two or three inches of salt compacted in the bottom. Then reading about the resin, I discovered it needed to be changed from time to time and that there is even a cleaner that can be utilized to aid in preserving the resin. I have ordered resin to replace that black mess that is pictured below.

2 pointsI recently ran across this series a month or two ago, and I am even considering picking one up here: With my newly acquired interest in this series of diesel garden tractors, I made a video of the different models in this line, except for a couple which I'm sure were made overseas and not for North America buyers. Does anyone have one or know of these little jewels? A

2 pointsLooks like it has a forward swept front axle and heavy duty hubs added to the front. Nice wheel weights and a larger weight box. Also a nice arm rest seat. I’m thinking around $2800-$3200 ?
-
2 pointsMost of us (even @ebinmaine, I suspect 😁) have a collection of removed WH fasteners. I reuse any I can clean up that are NOT in high-stress or fatigue-inducing locations. But I work on workers, not show units. Waste not, want not.
-
2 pointsIt did not. I won't go near the Susquehanna. Besides, I have to travel over an hour north to get out of the bass exclusion zone. And since I only have electric motors I won't go in any flowing body of water with that boat anyway. Also, proper cooking will kill e coli.

2 pointsThe newer technology in heat pumps can operate efficiently to supply heat down well below freezing (without using electric resistance supplemental heat). They are also more efficient overall. Depending on the age of your unit, the total cost of replacing it may be less (in materials plus labor), than buying and “splicing in” a new external heat supply. Keep the same simple thermostat control, add no new fuel requirements, and possibly gain lower operating costs during the spring/summer/fall seasons.
-
2 pointsFlip the se3at up and see if there is a pair of wires running to the seat. Many newer garden tractors have a seat switch built into the seat.
-
2 pointsSay what you will about them Amish fellers, but they work hard, they work fast, and they work good.
-
2 pointsGiven your circumstances it seems like the outdoor forced air furnace may be a decent option. We've looked at heat pumps here and of course.. didn't use one. The new workshop space has an AC/Heat combination unit, a heat only unit, and a large wood stove. Up here electricity is on the pricey side but we just consider it a way of life. Ya gotta be comfortable - or at least above to use a space.

2 pointsI personally haven't had great luck with helicoils BUT they likely weren't used correctly by Previous owners. I'd drill to the next size and grind the bolt tip down.
-
2 pointsMy primer bulbs are located near my left foot where I have to bend down. Now Bill has me thinking how nice a foot operated bulb would be.

2 pointsYeah I'm going to see how it goes many go karts I had growng up were straight they pushed a little. If I have to I can change it around. Yes lots of front weight. I'd like to put a chain driven genorator to charge a battery and I'd put the battery up front. My son loves lights so I'll see. I'm stretching the wheel base a good bit so hoping that would cam the wheelie it down He will just be happy to drive around helping out around the frame. He can take supplies to his chickens then in the body

2 pointsMaybe you call her Nana. Maybe you call her Granny. Maybe you call her when you’re in trouble because you know she’ll be there for you at the drop of a hat. Whatever the case may be, today is her day. But it’s not just Grandma Day—oh no. This July 23, we celebrate National Gorgeous Grandma Day. Today’s the day to tell ol’ Granny just how stunning she really is.

2 pointsThank you for the follow-up, to let us know what it was. Many times we never know what happened!

2 pointsMatthetrac: This is how you learn to work on them. It’s always handy to have extra wire and normal things like that so problems come up you’re ready. Enjoy the project.

2 pointsJust been reading an article about the band. Very interesting how they were influenced by previous bands and styles of music. They started out as a blues band but rehearsed opposite a cinema where people flocked to see horror films. Tony Iommi said its amazing how people pay to be frightened, why don't we write scary songs. Coupled with the way he had to adapt his guitar to accommodate his missing finger tips the sound and style was born. Ozzy was a showman too and wrote the blueprint for so many performers.

2 pointsI have identified the cable as the ignition ground wire and will purchase new wire to reconnect the two ends.
