8 points@WHX?? @Achto @jeremi3210 and a couple other folks ran the tractor games event at Portage. Lots of fun!
-
7 pointsThe last time I held a “squishy” a baby, it wasn’t oil that I got all over me. 🤣
-
7 pointsThat slow tractor race reminds me of watching @ebinmaine's progress on Colossus... only, well... faster...

6 pointsIt’s peak summertime and we cannot wait to get the celebrations started for Mango Day on July 22. The yellow fruit is world-famous for its sweet and juicy flavors. Mango is primarily a summer fruit, and it comes in all shapes and sizes, and with each variety, there’s a different way to enjoy the taste. Many people in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh eat the fruit whole, without cutting it up. They squeeze a mango thoroughly, turning its insides into a soft mushy pulp, and then make a hole in the skin to suck the pulp out. South Asia also happens to produce half the world’s mango supply. China is the second-largest mango producer.

6 pointsWindow shopped & made an offer for a 854. 'Tis my belief everyone should have one ... who am I to argue with myself? Better to ask forgiveness right?? 'Sides Dan came and got his tractors so got a couple open stalls ...

4 pointsI noticed during the last few months of mowing with the refurbed 312-8 that one of the fuel tank captured nuts had developed a seep. No worries, had some about to expire fuel tank sealant at work so I sealed up both captured nuts and add a flat washer. Leak check was good using the blue dinosaur juice.
-
4 pointsDefinitely. It's time is coming up soon. This is the second time (I think) this has happened. Obviously the proper prevention would be .. assembly... 😉
-
4 pointsSorry to see that, I wonder tho if that is a sign that project has sat way to long
-
4 pointsI was hoping you would chime in with all there. Looks to be unmolested to boot. Leave as is fer sure ... patina to die for. A guy I sold a tractor to last year at portage has it and currently does not run. Kohler so shouldn't take much to get it running right? This guy collects but if it doesn't run sends them on. To me getting them running is all the fun.

3 points@Ed Kennell would probably like to have that bench, can never have too many of them.

3 pointsSharp blades do reduce the mowing load on the engine - especially in heavy grass.

3 pointssmall update - busy on other things. But managed to do a reasonable copy of the clutch/brake pedal. Main bit by me, the detail that makes it look a bit more authentic was by Ewan.

2 pointsI have had some baler twine wrap itself around the spindle and about stop the blades from turning, heavy grass and weeds could do that too.

2 pointsAnd just like that it's blown apart. Still a few things left steering wheel still needs to come off. Steering shaft gear has a broken gear on it. Weirdly the fan gear and the rest of the teeth on the shaft gear don't look worn to bad. And got the pile of fasteners to get replaced.

2 pointsMY thanks goes to Wallfish for the great info, adding it to the stack of info that will help the next owner. Oliver2-44 I have made copies of all the manuals you posted , going to need a bigger ring binder. Handy Don Your post has good info that will be added to that bigger binder also. ri702bill Thanks for the info on what to check on the carb, there are points that did not know about before. Will be ordering a rebuild kit asap and will not miss the points you added. 953nut There is no way that I could put that type of money into this tractor, don't need OEM parts for the grandkids to drive around the yard. This tractor was running when I first got it, But it was hard to start and it is no better now. It has spark and will fire if it gets a shot of the caned spray, but will not pick up and run after that. I knew that the carb was going to need some work, so now it 's time to spend money and get it done. Once more I wish to thank all of you for your info and help, I will keep this post updated as /when I have more to add. Joe

2 pointsBBT will tell ya, if it turns over and has any compression, it will run. It's a Kohler.

2 pointsGood morning! I have a new ignition switch in the mail. I tried to buy one over the weekend at the hardware store but it’s not a stock part for them. I am hopeful it will resolve the problem and I don’t have to deal with replacing a diode. Thanks for the schematic! It will be very helpful if the switch isn’t the issue. I did examine a lot of the wiring for chew marks and didn’t find anything but a mouse nest in the boot of the steering column. I did find a wiring connection up by the fuses that is not connected to anything. It has some electrical tape on it. Is that for accessories? I did not see anything in the owner nor service manual. I will post back after we replace the switch so that the next person has information on what to try next with troubleshooting. I wanted to thank all of you for your help. We have never worked on a carburetor with a solenoid so this was new for us and my research led me here and I am glad it did. You are a wonderful group of people and I’m glad I found you! Pat

2 points@PWL216 like a chain and cable lubricant , napa , MACKS cable spray , also use chain and cable spray inside of all my closed car areas ? in a couple of days , there will be a related track on / in lower door seaming , wheel wells , thats a great leader for heavier open gear lube tracking , stops rust , pete

2 pointsI know that price and availability are big concerns, but for me I like to support local and USA made items when possible. Having said that, if need to purchase cheaper items is required then I would do as ri702bill has stated above. Bob

2 pointsA guy can never have two many projects It's 10 years since I almost finished one, and I decided to start another.... With an early two piece trans lying around and a few pictures, I decided to build a 551 from scratch. Big shout out to @oliver2-44 and @Shaun turner for pictures/dimensions and bits to copy. The frame came together pretty quickly. It gets a bit trickier after that - especially on the steering, but I thought I could do my own spin.... drilling and filing a 7 tooth 3/8 sprocket was fun! but the principle works well onto making an axle from bits! 2" flat bar and Volvo C30 driveshaft.... you guys know I love a bit of recycling. Lots of layers and bending. quick modification to C series spindles. and some experimenting to get the tie rod and ackerman perfect. more to follow....

2 pointsAs they say, "Ya gets what ya pays for". I would consider one, but would disassemble it before use to flush out the Chinesium garbage grease in the bearings and repack them with Lucas green X-Tra Duty grease. @peter lena would approve!!

2 pointsThere is a steel check ball in the emulsion tube that tends to rust in place (the closed position) and is not accessable. Once your carb is cleaned - before reassembling any parts on it , hold it up to your ear & shake it. If the ball does not rattle it is stuck and the engine will never idle..... Game over. The idle circuit uses a tiny .020 or so diameter hole to pick up fuel. It is a diagonal hole located in the carb body threaded area just up from the main jet. It is very difficult to find!! Same thing - if it is plugged, it will never idle. I use the twist wire from a paper tag to clean that out. Refer to the bottom diagram on page 10 - the idle and intermediate fuel transfer passage. 2 pointsThe Tecumseh diodes can be scarce as hens teeth to find. I recall one member removed the diodes and got his engine running. Then after working others bugs out, inserted the diodes and got that electrical charging system working last. I have and H60 that I need to get running, so I've been collecting files that looked used for when the time comes. Hopefully some of these files may be helpful for you. Keep us posted as you work on it. PS the H60is Identical to thee H55 except it has an internal oil pump. For what its worth.....If your engine's oil wasn't maintained and has a lot of sludge built up, it might be worth removing the engine bottom oil pan and cleaning out the sump and oil pump. I have an old Wisconsin that appeared sludged up and was I glad I pulled the oil pan on it. The oil pump suction had a screen that was totally caked with sludge. 2 pointsThe recently purchased Horses Hauler trailer got some dandy new DOT Conspicuity Tape. The back of the fenders, sides of the fenders, and rear tailgate area all have added visibility. I added 4 vertical stripes and a horizontal stripe to the gate. The gate is 1" square tubing. The tape is nearly 2" wide. The sides have two directional sight. The bottom of the gate has tape visible while the gate is upright or laying down in the trailer. With flash to show reflection. This: ..... is a product called King Starboard. It's a high density poly something that is marketed to the salt water boat industry. My thought here is to attach a 1" wide strip to the back of the top of the gate which is the part that hits the ground when the gate drops. I was able to use the square and razor to repeatedly score the surface followed by snapping the 1" strip off the edge. To hold it on the trailer I'm thinking of using several self tapping flat pan screws. Other suggestions welcome.

2 pointsI can hear the forum now: "My human's skin is all dry and wrinkled." "Rub him down with oil and set him out in the sun." "My human isn't acting right." "Check his 9 pin." What kind of oil for my human?. "Older model use lard, newer model olive oil."

2 pointsAfter a bit of a hiatus I got back on the C-141 today after work and another dentist visit. This time I put threaded inserts on the drive belt side cover of the tractor under the shift plate. After attaching the drive belt cover, and buttoning that up. I moved on to the headlight lens for the front headlights. That piece of thick paper template, or my Paper Aided Design will eventually be a piece of Lexan/plexiglass. It will be painted similar to the original that was there. I’m off tomorrow so hopefully more progress then.

2 pointsKevin, I can understand the first taste test but why did you take a second bite after spitting out your first? As I remember it the poison sumac grew in wet swampy areas so you will probably not have to have your stomach pumped.
-
2 pointsThis was it. I messed with it a bit tonight before hopping in after work and got to take a nice hot shower. I even have a little head space on the heat now.
-
2 pointsGreat workmanship. I knew the Brits drove on the wrong side of the road but never knew they also ran the Suburban's exhaust on the wrong side of the tractor.
-
2 pointsHad another think of the steering - not happy with the small homemade 7 tooth steering sprocket.... Works very well and smooth! I think it will outperform the original in terms of lifetime
-
1 pointCould be it, although when it first started happening I was sitting still not mowing, I'll sharpen the blades first thing next time I go up. Thanks, Jim

1 pointIn a related subject to the She shed etc idea… can an entire house be a Man Cave?
-
1 pointI don't think I need to remove it. It gets plenty hot right now, and I may actually move it back a click because I do have kids using the shower.

1 pointFinally got around to start digging into this beast. Replaced the fuel filter and fuel line. Also drained out the old fuel/sludge that smelt terrible. Then we had a miniature success! We got it to kinda run on its own with some carb clean. The fuel pump is barely pumping so we are going to get a new one of those and a carb rebuild kit. Parts will be here tommorow too!
