7 pointsHave you ever wished for a day where you can eat absolutely anything you want? Well that day is today. National Junk Food Day is celebrated every year on July 21. Dedicated to the foods we like to snack on, this isn’t your average cheat day. Today, you can eat junk food for every meal. Popularized in the U.S in the 1950s, junk foods are usually, by definition, high in fats, sugars, salt, and calories. But they are also high in deliciousness! Junk food day is the perfect day to treat yourself. On this day, you’re allowed your favorite junk foods without any guilt. So go ahead and add extra cheese on that burger and go for that order of fries. Today you’re allowed!

5 pointsWell I dealt with the heat today which is probably the coolest day this week. And started tearing this tractor apart. Got two of the harder things off the rear hitch pin which did need some convincing. And the rear hubs off, which were pretty stubborn but not completely frozen. Good news is the axles and hubs look decent at the key ways. Also got the steering wheel pin out, but soaking the wheel in penetrating oil for a bit before I try taking it off. The more I take apart this tractor is definitely worn. Fixable but worn, needs a lot of new parts.

5 pointsGreat workmanship. I knew the Brits drove on the wrong side of the road but never knew they also ran the Suburban's exhaust on the wrong side of the tractor.

4 pointsGood morning! I wanted to say thank you for all your help and suggestions. I sorta know how to use a voltmeter and planned on watching some YouTube videos but hubby was away and I couldn’t find the DMM so I was out of luck. it is a power issue. Today my husband was trying to sort it out and I suggested running a temporary wire from the battery to the solenoid. Tractor starts and runs! It’s either the switch as Handy Don suggested or a relay. My next stop is to review the wiring diagrams to find the relay(s) and trace the wires. As I type this, I am remembering my friend’s handyman said he cleaned out some mouse nests this spring and I wonder if a bare wire is grounding out. I was on some rough gravel when it died and assumed I ran out of gas which led to thoughts of clogged jets…. Thanks again for all your help and suggestions! patty

4 pointsI had that problem a couple of years ago. When I dig up the septic tank lids for pumping there was liquid flowing out the top of the tank. Started digging up the pipe in the leaching field and found the problem. Pipe was broken and plugged with dirt. There is a large maple tree close by so I thought tree roots would be the problem but there were none. 12' of new perforated pipe fixed it up. Luckily the rest of the field seems good. I dug the tank up again last year and had it pumped. Liquid level was good so field is doing it's job now.

4 pointsWe moved from a 3800sq ft house w/4 bedrooms, full basement, etc to a 1000sq ft ranch w/no basement. Wanted to downsize as I get older & look to retire soon. I promised her that we would build her a "she shed" to accommodate all her crafts, exercise equipment, religious stuff, etc. Insulated it & got heat too. Was a great idea.

3 pointsWas doing some oil changes today and was getting frustrated trying to read the new oil on the dip stick. I'm sure that others have had this issue as well so I thought that I would share my cure for this. First off a picture of what I am talking about. The picture below shows the dip stick right after I pulled it out of the engine. Hard to see but yes there is oil on it. The solution that I came up with was to sand blast the end of the dip stick. This made the oil level very easy to see. Next question, would this still improve things after the dip stick has been saturated in oil ??? The answer is, YES. Even after the dip stick has been saturated it is still easier to read. Hope this may be of some value to those of you out there.

3 pointsWowsers! The way this thread started I was about to order sympathy flowers. Now it's time to hear the results of soaking and sugaring and drinking.

3 pointsSo, if sumac is the main ingredient in Sumacaid, then do I want to know what's in Gatorade???

3 pointsHad to move more trailers around today so that the septic pump truck can get to the septic tank Wednesday. Clyde, the C-195 got assigned to that duty. Next up was finishing the mowing that I didn't get to last Thursday. Used Morgan, the 14-8 for that job. I'm suspecting that a combination of the recent heavy rain, 5 adults staying in the lake house for 3 days, and a marginal drain field are the probable causes of the septic tank issue.

3 pointsI can hear the forum now: "My human's skin is all dry and wrinkled." "Rub him down with oil and set him out in the sun." "My human isn't acting right." "Check his 9 pin." What kind of oil for my human?. "Older model use lard, newer model olive oil."

3 points@Achto, when you and @WHX?? picked up the A-60 for me, do you recall seeing a dipstick? (Other than Kevin, who's home eating poison sumac at the moment)... I've been looking for the oil drain and filler upper hole for two years...
-
3 pointsYou are a crazy MF to bite something that you don't know about! We have Sumac here and I won't go near it other than to cut it down!. JMO!

3 pointsThis was it. I messed with it a bit tonight before hopping in after work and got to take a nice hot shower. I even have a little head space on the heat now.

3 pointsWell I got my new Uni-Pro KM-223 (8801) seat, put it together and installed. Looks, works, and fits great. Thanks for all the help.

3 pointsYou just made that up, didn't you. In fact there is an entire week devoted to septic tank awareness. While there isn't a specific "National Clean Out Your Septic Tank Day" designated as a national holiday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) organizes SepticSmart Week annually to raise awareness about the importance of proper septic system maintenance. SepticSmart Week typically takes place in the third week of September. In 2025, it is scheduled for September 15-19. During SepticSmart Week, the EPA encourages homeowners and communities to learn about and implement best practices for septic system care, including: Inspecting and Pumping Frequently: Regular inspections and pumping (typically every 3 to 5 years for household septic tanks) are crucial to prevent failures. Using Water Efficiently: Reducing water usage through practices like taking shorter showers and running full loads in washing machines and dishwashers helps prevent overloading the system. Properly Disposing of Waste: Avoiding flushing items like cooking grease, wipes, and harmful chemicals down the drain protects the septic system and the environment. Maintaining the Drainfield: Protecting the drainfield from vehicle traffic, heavy loads, and improper planting ensures its effectiveness. By following these guidelines and participating in SepticSmart Week, homeowners can help ensure their septic systems function properly, protect public health and the environment, and potentially save thousands of dollars on costly repairs.

3 pointsWas a bit miffed that they did some of the exhibition type pulls before the regular classes were complete. Specially knowing that weather was going to be a factor. Got over it though.

3 pointsWe've had family visiting the last few days. My wife's siblings, their kids and grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Both of our kids and the oldest's wife also were able to visit. Had about 20 yesterday. The deck we built last year and the Blackstone grill got a very good workout this weekend. The lake house was full, too. Good time was had by all. I finally got some time this afternoon to help my youngest son troubleshoot and fix a headlight wiring issue on his car. Turns out to be a bad ground. We also got into a turn signal issue, which turned out to be a bad connector. Didn't get it fixed, but we determined that he needs to cut the old connector off of the wiri g harness and splice a new one on. Progress on house maintenance was made. The roofers are going to show up next week to install a new metal roof. However, this progress was offset by a wetsuit and a whif of septic tank on the lake house system. Got to schedule a pump truck and inspection this week. All of the visitors there this weekend compressed maby 6 weeks of typical use of the system by my wife and I into 3 days. I'm going to guess that the drain field has slowed down. Goody, goody, goody. We've got visitors next weekend to. Hopefully a pumping will patch the system up enough to get us through the weekend, while we get a diagnosis and schedule a fix.

3 pointsThat's my technique I use. I also tried painting the dipstick flat black that helped.

2 pointsThat’s how I am with my C-141. The other two tractors I have were relatively complete and had direct family ties. The C- 141 had no engine, wiring, or gas tank so it wasn’t as big of a deal if I wanted to modify it.

2 pointsYeah, wondering if I should move this thread to the Bumps & Bruises section

2 pointsWell, for those of us who are severely space-constrained, having the narrower rear end means that there can be room in the garage for other important stuff.

2 pointsMy water softener goes out to the road ditch out front as does the washing machine. No septic company would even look at my septic system for repair. The only option is a new system as they need to bring it up to the latest code ($$$). Made my $100.00 repair seem good. I have very sandy soil so drainage is not an issue.
