6 pointsInsurance Nerd Day is celebrated annually on July 18. What even is an insurance nerd? An insurance nerd is a person who loves working for an insurance company. What about their hobbies? Well, their hobbies may include talking about insurance in their free time, convincing others about how not boring the insurance industry is, reading insurance publications, and posting about insurance on their social media. Nothing but insurance. Do you have friends with hobbies like those mentioned? Then, they are definitely insurance nerds, and today is their day.

4 pointsReally kickin butt Kevin! Keep it up! All I do in the exercise world is ride my bike, unfortunately not regularly enough. But this week I’m on vacation and brought the bike with me so I’ve been out every morning. Very hilly here in Maine where I am, giving my legs a workout like they haven’t seen in a looooong time! My longest ride this week:

4 pointsDepends but on a CH22 Kohler command, yes solenoid should have power any time key is on - It is an anti-afterfire solenoid, it shuts off fuel to the Main jet circuit of the carburetor to help prevent fuel getting through carburetor when engine is shut off (it's that fuel loading with no spark while engine coasts down to a stop that can build up in hot muffler causing backfire) Common sequence when solenoid doesn't operate correctly (or loses power) is, engine will fire up and run a couple seconds then die off like gas was shut off - Some engines (Since they run off idle circuit under governed idle) can be run at DEAD IDLE (That is, throttle all the way to idle and keeping the throttle on carburetor closed up against the idle stop screw) even under a solenoid failure. but once they come off idle, there's simply not enough fuel to run so engine dies out. You want at least a test light to check voltage at the solenoid hot wire on the carburetor while going through start and run, if it loses power (light goes out) at any point, then likely you have a switch or electrical issue. However a test light can give a false positive reading, if battery voltage drops too low at the solenoid (below 9 v) due to poor grounding or bad wiring connection, so a DMM is more useful to check that you have the full 12v (or up to 14.8v when engine's running) at the solenoid. Poor grounds can cause a host of other issues as well, as can corroded, fatigued or loose wiring connections (Not uncommon to have failures at wiring connectors causing elusive "gremlins" in electrical systems that go away or return when harness or connectors are wiggled aggressively) So if you lose voltage, most common issue outside of a failure in the wiring harness, is a bad key switch. (I have had more than a few of those failures)

4 pointsWow. Taking notes of every rep, every day this week, I moved 64,100 lbs in 5 hours of work time. Never would I imagine that, it’s unreal and hard to fathom.

4 pointsSparky the tractor was called up to Active Duty yesterday. The BBT has decided that it should be assigned Mid Mount Grader Blade tasks. We had a short rain storm roll through and caused a ditch. They filled it in.

2 pointsHOW IS THAT EVEN A FLIPPIN QUESTION??!!?? I believe mancode OU.8.12 section Z/28 subsection B17, P51 - INARGUABLY and unequivocally dictates that the boy dude guy MUST appease the girl chick lady when ice cream is discussed. Period.

2 pointsToday I was working away at the C-141 before going to a Celebration of Life for a family friend. Today’s accomplishment was putting the hood on and tweaking the throttle lever. Tomorrow, I’m going to attempt to put some inserts for bolts in the drive belt cover and figure out the exhaust as it hits the hood, then figure out how to mount the new throttle and choke handles. Lots of little things now.

2 pointsGuy I bought my hit/miss engines from has a couple ice cream makers. My girlfriend liked that idea. Guess that means I got the go ahead to buy one???

2 points@Sparky That's definitely true. Modern science is finding out more and more everyday that it really is, use it or lose it. Keep bicycling!

2 pointsTwo spec numbers show up M12S-471521 M12S-471527 Which do you have? What is your tractor model number and serial number? Transmission drive belt 108501 - (HB/5L x 81.50" or 5/8" x 81.5")

2 pointsMaybe a blown bearing in the bell in the housing??? The easiest fastest way to determine if the issue is at the deck or not is to take the belt off the PTO and engage it.

2 pointsGreat job Eric, I've been gaining weight for 30 plus years. It's been a up and down ride, lose 20lbs then gain 25, losted 50lbs gained 60 back My weight got up to 360lbs November 24, dropped 20ish pounds, got to 344lbs by mid March, gained some back, went to my doc at the VA, my a1c was in the 9s, put me on ozempic, low dose got it down to 5.4,. Talked the pharmacist , trying another medication, appetite suppressant, (don't like taking meds but I got to lose this weight) Anyway, been plugging along and reading this post and I've been trying the fasting thing a little , 15- 20 hours. Seems to be working between the meds and fasting . As of this morning I've lost 81lbs down to 264.4 .plan on another 20- 30lbs. I go to the doctor on Monday, maybe cut back on some of my meds. Any way thanks for this post, and your journey, it helped out. Now if I can just cure my wheel horse addiction. Have a great day.

2 pointsThe safety switches are shutting down the ignition. The PTO switch is connected to the seat switch so the PTO can not be operated without someone sitting in the seat. You will need to diagnose where the problem is in the wiring or a switch. Search the files and download the manual for your tractor and it will have the wiring diagram in it.

2 pointsI'm thinking the Tecumsehorse is a great candidate. That tractor is apparently low hours. The chassis is very tight. Not worn. I've now swapped the OTR Lawn trac 24x12.00-12 tires on to the rear and it has a 5 lug conversion front happening. It also has a splayed forward front axle. That engine runs fine but makes a tick I'm not sure is OK. May be perfectly normal but I'd rather save and shelf it. A nice 20 HP V Twin would be another great addition.

2 pointsToday I had an emergency dental appointment for a tooth that was giving me significant pain for the last 5 days. A bit of a grind on the crown that was put in a few months back plus antibiotic and Advil and I was good. I took the opportunity while I was in town to get a 4 inch steel pipe extension for the C-141 exhaust and two handles for the throttle and brake. After the appointment I’ve been antibioticed and adviled so I figured today was a rest day. I’ll hit it tomorrow morning and see where I get.

1 pointDid a experiment today and started it up to see if it would move or not and it did but you could tell it took just a little bit to get the fluid flowing. Once it was it worked fine. Even shutting it down 15 minutes it will still work great after that.

1 pointLook down under the engagement lever for the fuse block. ( If there is one) I jF that problem before and blew grass clippings and dust out of the fuse block and sprayed a bit of penetrating oil in the fuse block and it worked again . Love my 314 but not a fan of the Christmas tree lights and excessive safety switches

1 pointDoes your carburetor have a solonoid that shuts off the gas when the switch is turned off? If so, it could be faulty or the ignition switch or wiring may be the problem.

1 pointDropped the transmission out of the 314-8 that I picked up at the show stuck in low range. I suppose there are a lot of different ways to drop a transmission. This is one way I do it. I put jack stands under the foot rest rods. Place the dolly under the center of the trans with a block. Jack up the front untill the trans rests on the block. I removed the high low pin and unbolt the trans from the frame. Low the jack a little so there is room to remove the high low shiftier. Of course I am splitting this one and have removed the hubs, brake drum and drive pulley. If anyone has a high low fork they are willing to part with let me know. tks.

1 pointGave the 314A a bath. No pic, but I tested the 700. Hooked to a locust tree and she spins the tires in Fand R. Gave the 312H a bath while I had the pressure washer out.

1 pointGuy at the BS had four of the old style mufflers for a real good price so Achto and I cleaned him out. Swapped out the strait out silver one for a down and out. Thought black looked better. First oil change as long as she's in.

1 pointMy strawberries never produced well, too much shade, so I tilled them out and planted some spreading ground cover from another location that needed to be thinned out. Anyone know what this plant is. It is hardy, spreads quick, and chokes out any weeds. Then removed the tiller and installed the 48SD. The hoist sure makes it easy to lift the tractor and roll the deck under from the front.

1 pointThe BBT aka Trina aka The Paint Department has another mo-chine in her Herd. @Sparky owned this coooool conversion for years. I've always thought it was neat. This is Trina's favorite size & shape of tractor. Mid 60s Short frame. 8 HP. Stick shift. And round fenders! Unaware that he was even thinking of selling it.... I mentioned to Sparky that if he ever wanted to, I'd be interested. I then found out he and @Pullstart had agreed to a sale. Not 5 minutes goes by and Kevin sends me a text saying BBT should have this... Mike was even nice enough to deliver it to my momma's place. The Trina person is VERY happy with this rig. She "had to" take it for a short ride immediately. When we get it home it'll be put right to tasks. I believe this will be an immediate go-to favorite of hers. We'll swap wheels & tires to some more aggressive AG rears. I've had a thought of doing this exact conversion to one of our own tractors for several years now. This seat has been patiently waiting. Looks like a perfect place. THANK YOU MIKE AND KEVIN!!

1 pointBusy day in the after here working on WheelHorses. I got the A-100 shifter fixed and working on wiring up a c-111 pulling tractor.

1 pointThe '76 C120, a rescue and in the shed for years, is finally getting to work again. Went through the engine and trans long ago. The 42RD is clean and on new bearings. It does look its age and has had a hard life. Label says it was purchased in Joplin MO. Handed down a generation - the boys fully expect it to never give up and the meadow can use a mow. Don't blame the bros for not mowing. It was like this when they closed.

1 pointMegan is gonna need a snow plow for those Connecticut winters. Put the bracket on the back I had lying around. Also when I bought this tractor, the PO had a switch in the dash that was wired to nothing, so removed the switch and replaced with a black cap.
