A section for a carriage and a section for horses. There were several rooms inside for tack and 5 stalls. an indoor corral and an outside corral out back. 2nd floor was for hay storage but the owners had chickens turkeys and whatever else up there at some point. I ended up chipping all of the dried up hay and manure that was on the floor and made a large basketball court and bb gun shooting gallery up there. The tack room became our neighborhood football team locker room and I kept the 604 we had in the corral. How fitting.

7 pointsWe took a bit of a day trip yesterday. There was a family lunch gathering out near Bedford for my great aunt's 98th birthday. The kids chose to ride out with my dad, so the wife and I had the trip to ourselves. She was looking at job postings for me while I was driving and found on just posted on the 10th that looks interesting. The Milton Hershey School is looking for a high-school level auto tech instructor. I don't have any teaching degree/certificate, however Pennsylvania has a special set of rules set up to allow someone like me, who has so many years in a trade, to begin teaching it at the high school/vo-tech level without teaching certs. I think I'm gonna look into this one.

6 pointsThis was our first year and we only went up for Friday, but we still had a great time driving around and seeing everyone despite the rain. We drove through this little number on the way up Thursday night. Our 312-8's... Some WH's from around the show. I also picked up some wheel weights for plowing and @WHX?? (to hold them down?) No wait, that was because he broke down!

6 pointsSemi-rehabbed a 2 piece seat. Picked it up for $20. going on my 875. Had a set of springs in stock. Gave them a quick flat black paint job. Got the pads off and gave all of the dead stink bugs trapped inside a proper burial into the rectangular dumpster. Pretty hot out with a high DP. Paint was a little slow to dry but my Big A$$ fan helped!

5 pointsThis special day may have been created for @AlexR. On Barn Day, celebrated on July 13, we pay homage to the heart of every farm. Sometimes built even before the main house, they are historically the center of the farm, usually accommodating animals, grain, hay, and equipment. In fact, the word ‘barn’ originates from the Old English word for ‘bere,’ or barely, and ‘aem,’ which means storage space.

5 pointsI don't have an old barn but about twelve years ago I remodeled one. Google "Round barn on clear creek LLC" then go to "gallery" and you'll see one of the projects I was lead carpenter on. We (myself, my helper and the owner) worked there 9 months. We removed all of the original floor joists in this eight sided barn and replaced them to bring them up to code. The three of us laid and finished the 4,500 square feet of oak flooring. (I started us in the center of the barn and laid outwards towards the walls. We chalked lines on the subfloor every five feet so we would end up parallel to the outside walls.) The owner hired a portable sawmill to cut down 30 oak trees so we would have lumber to strengthen the sagging rafters. Originally the barn was open on one side. A team of horses pulling hay (that went up to the loft--that now houses the HVAC) or corn that was thrown into the corn crib (that is now removed) then the horses completed the circle and came out of the door they entered. Below the main floor, was where the animals were kept and fed. I'll be 73 three years old this year and I'll never get the chance nor have the stamina to take on such a project. It was sure fun at the time.

5 pointsEvery time I see an old barn I wonder what it must have looked like when it was new, and how long it was in its heyday or hay day! And of course the stories it could tell.

4 pointsEvery July the local Ossipee Valley Fair is held. This is generally considered the start of "Fair Season" here in Maine. The Ossipee Fair has been growing steadily every year. They now have livestock participation from all over the Northeast USA. The Fair runs for 4 days. The last being Sunday. We always go Sunday because that's Car Show Day. This year we got the grandkid. Lots of fun in lots of places watching barrel racing, horse pulling, steer/oxen showing and all the dozens of booths. Here's a few pics of particular vehicles from the show. This here firetruck driving by caused an event that restored a little of my hope for the future of respect. There's a boy about 10 setting up in the passenger seat. That's me in the cowboy 🤠 hat and grey shirt. As they passed I nodded at the little fella. He "up-nodded" back out of reflex. Not because someone told him to. That's a damn small signal that most folks wouldn't even notice. That there young man is clearly being raised right. 💜 This is a very rare car that I'm not sure I've seen any kinda recently. I don't know if it's real or a clone. Either way. Really neat. This truck I've seen many times. It's a 63 if I recall. Straight Six with Offenhauser intake, headers, DUI Ignition. Neat rig. This is a rare and valuable piece. Plain Jane Car with dog dish hub caps and limited options. And a 426 Hemi race engine topped off with a cross ram intake and dual four barrell carbs. WOW!! This Corvair pickup has the side ramp for loading Wheelhorse tractors. I dunno why else you'd own one. This is a Jaxon in chillaxillation mode.

4 pointsWe made a trip to Branson, Missouri. It's known for various entertainment shows, Silver Dollar City is an old staple--a theme park based upon 1880's town. Something that is located just south of Branson is College of the Ozarks. We've been there a couple of times in assisting students settling in. This time we visited as tourists. They have several museums and buildings to tour, all but one is free and it only charges $6 for seniors. It's a three story building of about every item imageable including over 1,200 guns one of which is a gatling gun, They also have the Beverly Hillbilly's original pickup. There are students making leaded glass fixtures, they work in the dairy, the gardens and green house, a grist mill, and they produce other items that are sold. There is a nice restaurant worth trying out and waiters and servers and are well groomed and polite. Students do the cooking. If I understand correctly, the college is based upon a work for education program whereas each student is expected to work on behalf of the college and therefore greatly reduce the cost of college education. Below are some pictures of the tractor museum. The JD 110 caught my eye. Dad had a new one that we three boys learned to mow on. They also have a two headed calf that was born on the grounds.

4 pointsYep. They’d typically break if the rod was hit by lightning. If the rod did it’s job, it was proof!
-
4 pointsI was just thinking that as well, that it looked faster than our standard garden tractors. The A-60 has one heck of a fast road gear, put it in 5th and hang on.

3 pointsI had to get the C-141 8-Speed with Sweepster C-48 broom out today to help prepare the driveway for seal coating. That tractor was blocked in by a few others. The LSE and the Work Horse were still in my enclosed trailer since the big show and I wanted to put them back in their proper places. A few were just in my garage so I took them out too! The other half of my collection is in my basement awaiting late summer/fall photo shoot.

3 pointsPeople living in barns... fun anecdote: "Raining cats and dogs" originated from cats and dogs sleeping on the thatched roofs of old barns / cabins... when it rained hard they got slippery and fell off...
-
3 pointsThey were great until a hay fire broke out in the barn and took the house with it. I don’t think too much hay is being stored in them these days, though. I would love to have one of those old places. Plenty of space for Wheelhorses!

3 pointsThe home-attached barn architecture started in Germany and is very common in Bavaria. That design continues even today in new construction to conserve space as well as to make access in bad weather convenient.

3 pointsMade some more progress on The C105 this weekend…… Found the transmission only shifts into Reverse or first. Drained the oil out and I was reminded of milk so I’m going to have to do some digging on how to flush the transmission. I managed to get the plow hooked up and noted the overall stiffness of all the linkage so that also got added to the list. I still need to change out the throttle and choke cables as both cables and lever linkages are beyond saving. I also need to replace the front tires as one leaks out of the sidewall and the other has a slow leak. That’s all for now! (video of it running for the first time in 4+ years) IMG_2913.mov

3 pointsMake a trip to our area. We have barns from shed sized to gargantuan. 200+ years to new like mine. There's a very large barn up the mountain from us that was originally tied to the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow family. The Wadsworth side has a long history here. Its architecture is unusual because of the ornate nature but very subtle. To this day it's still beautifully maintained.

3 pointsYes, give me a call and we’ll figure it out. I can definitely make you what you need.

3 pointsThe pulleys on electric PTOs will spin even turned off (there is no brake). However if there is a belt on them they will stop spinning in the off position. When you turn switch on you should hear a strong click and see a slight movement in the Clutch. Interesting yo have the electric PTO they normally came on Electros which also had hydro lift.. It is important to determine what type ignition system you tractor has. Kohler used 3 different ignition systems on Chargers...Battery points....Magneto Points ...and Breakerless. Do not make any wiring or ignition switch changes until you determine what style you have. Incorrect wiring will fry components. A picture of the engine from the left side would help us figure out what you have.

3 pointsI have not clocked it and it is all stock. According to the manual 6.4 mph top speed... It scoots along and does so very quietly...

3 pointsBlock painted. Not perfect but looks better than it did. Yeah that's a cheapo carb on it. The original is badly corroded and is gonna take a lot of work. It'll get rebuilt soon. Spark plug is just a dust cap. Not even threaded...

2 pointsClyde, the C-195 got tapped for lawn sweeper duty today - mostly because the sweeper is stored behind Clyde in the tractor shed and really easy to hitch to Clyde. Got 30, maybe 40 minutes of seat time on the job. Got the chipper shredder out to grind up what Clyde and I collected. I don't remember using the chipper last season, so it has been sitting idle for at least a year. Splashed some fresh gas in it, and it started after 4 or 5 pulls. Got about 1/2 way through the job when the B&S 5hp on the chipper quits like it was shut off. It didn't fire with a squit of carb cleaner, so i'm guessing that it has lost spark. Too late in the day, too hot, tired, and sweaty, I took this as a sign that it was quitting time.

2 pointsWell I removed it and sure enough the roll pin was snapped into thee pieces. Welded it up and now it feels better then I ever remember so it was probably in bad shape for quite a wile. I was worried the trans was going the way it was getting continually worse. I’m going to pick up a new boot and a new dog point pin wile I’m at it for peace of mind. This tractor was beat on before I took possession and its a nice feeling to save it. Searching this site gave me a lot good info on bringing it back. Thanks.

2 pointsAny of those houses with attached barns in your area? I have seen numerous ones in Maine and since we passed them snowmobiling it became readily apparent that building that way made life and work much easier in winter.

2 pointsthings I did today to the old 704 next on the list to do is mount the gas tank fix the steering shaft fix hood and get the motor running and rebuild the transmission
