Decided to take the '47 sedan delivery out for a drive today. There is a 100 year old bridge in the next county so decided it would be a good 80 mile round trip. From what I've read, it was moved to it's current location in the 1930's. The bridge from abutment to abutment is a little over 400 feet. Supposedly, it on a list to be replaced. Notice the cowl vent and vent windows are open. It finally warmed into the 80's here in southwest MO, I bought this car in 1972. Swapped out the original drive train with a 1957 6 cyl, three speed and differential. Bought the overhaul kit from Montgomery and Wards.

I did some Horse trading today, and ended up with this 1054. It could use a few things, but runs good! Way in the back is also a Moto Mower. It’s special… and in dire need of help!

If you don't like the way it cuts you could always turn it into a power buggy..

With a couple hundred new $6 tires in the hood, rims will probably be worth a $100 each.

Oscar the Grouch Day is celebrated on June 1, which is also the birthday of Oscar the Grouch. He is a fictional character who lives in a trash can on “Sesame Street” with a green body and no visible nose. Oscar does not know what it means to have a happy birthday and believes that the best thing about birthdays is that you don’t have to celebrate them again for a whole year once they are gone. It was “Sesame Street” episode 3,866 that revealed that Oscar’s birthday is on June 1.

Hauled a load of firewood for my Dad today, and then gave the Horse a oil rub down- Devon (England) is super humid, so it keeps the rust at bay!

IMO, If it is already sitting on the shelf, just use it. Maybe it's just me but I have no fear of some slight wear happening in a $150 engine. I'd be more concerned with the air filter as that's where the wearing particles enter an engine. A newly rebuilt engine or the expensive vehicle engine is a different story

Strictly “preservation paint” … not a restoration whatsoever.

I started popping this rig together today. I need to better the idlers, then give it a shot in the field.

I'll beg to differ EB ...well not differ completely but put it in that K301 re-blender and run like ya stole it. Only time I had a engine oil failure is when s certain person who shall go unnamed didn't put oil in it.
  15. 6 points
Run it. Filter out the sediment if you like. These are old engines not Indy spec Honda's and Chevy's. You can dump brand new Dino oil into a glass jar and probably see something floating around. That's what dishwashers are for! If sediment is an issue, use the blender!

OH YES, Lots of hot air anywhere you go on the fairgrounds.

Looks fine to me. I buy 30 wt in five gallon buckets and have noticed blackish sediment towards the bottom of the container. Never really worried about it tho. You get in any trouble Bob using your wife's good pitcher like that??

Meteorologists are the only professionals that cam be wrong the majority of the time and we still pay attention to what they are saying. My forecast for the Big Show is warmer than cold but cooler than hot unless it is sunny while snowing on a rainy day.

I didn't know people still had conversations at the dinner table, thought it was all texting. BUT, if there were conversations it would go like this; How was your date . . . She was boring . . . Yes, I had the cylinder bored 30 over . . . 30, he doesn't look a day over 12 . . No, it ain't noon yet, its only 11

Right, guess we never did check that. Always fun hangin' out at Jim's. Had an exciting day in triage with a hand full patients. We checked over his last haul of 2 & decided that they were not good candidates to make run that day. Both very savable but not without some time in the O.R. Turned our attention to the 702 triplets. One already runs and drives, it ain't quite right but we'll deal with that later. Looked over the other 2 and picked the one most likely to survive. After some light medical attention and we had another 702 that was a driver. Will put some rehab time on this 702 over the summer then it will most likely under go some plastic surgery this the winter. As for the last 702 ?? We looked it over and well it wasn't good. We noticed that it did how ever have it's Donor Box checked and as much as we would like to save them all, we thought this to be the best option for this 702. Our happy patient.

We mowed the yard yesterday evening (our lot is almost an acre, mostly back yard). Today, I got the Wheel Horse out and aerated the yard first, then installed the cultivators and took care of the garden. I made myself a promise that I would make a point of keeping up with the garden this year, to NOT EVER have to MOW IT this year! So far, so good. Picked a bucket full of leaf lettuce, the first of the season, and enjoyed the heck out of that this evening.

If the bushings are bad you can use an awl to fold the bushing inward a bit at which point it will just fall out. This thread from @stevasaurus should be helpful.

After reading all this, I am thinking like Richard... one or both of the axle gears in the differential has lost some teeth and every once in a while a chip gets in the way. This was always a weak spot in these early transmissions. Your transmission is fixable and easy to fix. We will walk you through it. The gears you may need are readily available and are not expensive. You have the manual, drop it from the tractor, drain the oil and open up the trans with the shallow (right) side down. You can then pull out the differential, take it apart, fix and put it back in. Suggest replacing all seals and gasket. I'll send you my phone # in a PM. Call me anytime.

No trouble. The pitcher is something that came in a box lot from an auction. I knew it would come in handy for something some day.

I best bring it back in Dan and recheck the tranny fluid. I guess I did drain it. I guess I did know that is a service motor too. @Achto came over today and we tied into these rascals. It was agreed # 2 would be the best bet for getting it running and driving and the one for Dan to work his resto magic on. Long story short and much to my amazement we accomplished the running and driving part. First thing to go was the Ed Dog mad max tiller pulley. It put up a bit of a fight until the heat wrench was busted out. . Prolly 'cause of the bolt used for a key. Cleaned the offshore carb & pulled the head. Chamber and bore looked good. No signs of oil burning. Adjusted the gov & patched the wiring together ... just temporary ya know. Replaced the steering wheel & shaft with donor from #1. Got fire in the hole and all was good. Still amazed me we got her going. Even took a couple hours off in the afternoon to attend a fund raiser to a tractor bro that had some bad luck. I'm afraid the outlook for #1 is not so good ... more on that and the mystery deck tomorrow.

Hello all, I joined way back in 2013 and was just learning Wheel Horse. I participated here for about a year and then life got in the way. I occasionally dropped in here and there to look up tech stuff but, never posted much. Since then I acquired 3 more horses, ones I never wanted though, a C-81, C-101 and a hodgepodge 12 horse. I've had the 314-8 since the beginning, the other 3 were my dad's and now unfortunately they are mine. Hopefully life stays out of the way for a while and I can be more involved. Mark

I have couple of tractors that I acquired. They will never be for sale as long as I'm around, unfortunately my son has no interest or mechanical knowledge for them. Hopefully he will pick their next owner wisely.

Fully rebuilt K241 10hp. This is an original Wheel Horse engine, fully rebuilt using genuine Kohler parts. Has been bench run and is bolt on ready. This was originally on a " shaker plate " application , but can be adapted for use on the other models by adding the appropriate spacers. $650.00. Would like a deposit on this before we bring it. Contact me here or call / text during normal business hours. DO NOT EMAIL please. ENGINE IS SOLD

Welcome back. These are great tractors. Maybe didn't acquire them the way you wanted but they are pretty much the same as your 400 series just with different sheet metal and less safety items.

I think I am going to have to stay with collecting the 70's tractors, those seem to be the only ones available for anybody within 100 miles of @Pullstart because he's getting all the other tractors haha

All my steering wheels are fat. These old paws won't close far enough to grip a skinny wheel.

Girlfriend & my mom spent most of day out shopping, flea markets, etc. So..... I had time to get the recoil fixed & hopefully the idle surging on the RJ. Also got yard mowed/trimmed. Made time to get the hit/miss engines started too. Plenty beers consumed as well!

I have two original starters that went bad over the years - one came off the 416 another off a C 121 - both are 10 tooth gears same brush kits - want to get the 416 starter working and back on the tractor other for a spare - everything is pretty straight forward except the copper bushings . Any tricks for getting them out ? They don't seem terrible I may just polish with 800 grit and run them if it's a real bear removing them . Other than the brushes worn, years of caked on crud internally and weak springs on the gear they seem solid .

I have a similar deck but with enclosed ends. Nice and quiet and cuts like a dream. But for some reason it's a PITA to get the front shaft to line up in the hitch. My newer style 32" deck just about goes into place all by itself.

Love it when they say higher than normal, what is normal, what is it based on, the last 5 years, 10 years, 20 years. They've been telling us that for at least 15 years now. Much like down here every year for the past 12 years they say "this years hurricane season is going to be higher than NORMAL".

Not to be argumentative, but how much worse can it be than the basic 30W oil that Wheel Horse put in back in 1961?

I'll tell you what's funny ... A bunch of grown men (boys?? ) getting this worked up about a good deal on lawn mower tires! Don't take much to make us happy. Not sure if we have a problem or just get a kick out of the simple things. Me thinks the world would be a much better place if everyone was like this. Gotta wonder if this seller is lurking around here wondering what we're all on. All these horse nuts ordering all these tires! Mounting is easy with lots of schilp n lube. It's getting them seated. The usual tricks don't work. The starting fluid method can be real fun on the 4th of July. Richard's got a good work around.

If you have an 8" innertube just put tubes in the tires, inflate them a little and set them out in the sun for a day, Works wonders on wonky looking tires..
