To all who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation...

Decoration Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May. This year it will be celebrated on May 26. Decoration Day, now Memorial Day, is a special celebration to honor our veterans and remember those who died while in the armed services. It originated in the aftermath of the Civil War. Families and brothers-in-arms of the fallen on both sides of that conflict, north, and south, came together in commemoration by laying flowers on the graves of the dead, in honor of their sacrifice. The Civil War ended in 1865 and claimed more lives than any other conflict in U.S. history. Although it is unclear where this tradition originated; different communities may have independently initiated the memorial gatherings for their relatives who died. Some records show that one of the earliest commemorations of Memorial Day was organized by a group of formerly enslaved people in South Carolina less than a month after the Confederacy surrendered in 1865. However, the federal government declared Waterloo, New York, the official birthplace of Memorial Day in 1966. While Decoration Day originally honored only those lost while fighting in the Civil War, it evolved to also commemorate all American military personnel who died during military operations, including during World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Korean War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 1968, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed by Congress, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May to create a three-day weekend for federal employees. The change went into effect in 1971. Moreover, the same law declared Memorial Day a federal holiday.

@Pullstart Here's another machine if you got room on the truck!

657 with a Magnum pullstart 8hp. Starts easy and runs great. No battery to maintain . Choke and throttle operate as they should and the factory ignition key is the kill switch for it. This was a project I did a few years ago to make it “similar” to a 1045 with the square hood and open rear fenders. Comes as you see it (wheels, tires stack-exhaust, rear hitch, seat etc) and will have a FULL TANK of ethanol free fuel so you can cruise around the show as much as you want. Perfect cruiser for the young-uns! $250 brought to the show.

More progress today on the custom C141 parts. This time it’s an upper dash panel. Tomorrow or Tuesday I’ll mount the upper panel, and figure out where the throttle, and brake are going. Maybe another gauge too….😀.

As we do most Memorial Day weekends we went camping and dragged the Momma along. Trina bought her a new tricycle for trail usage. The meals. Scenery.

There are two visible ones. Many more off in various areas and states of repair. These are from the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s and 1940s. Very interesting piece of history. This particular camp was activated 1933. Deactivated 1942. It was a location for the cleanup of the Hurricane of 1938.

Took of the panels and foot rests and ground off the worst of the rust. Ready to sandblast them to get the corners and pitted areas. I saw no type of stop tab on either side. I also replaced the seals and reassembled the tiller. I cleaned the shaft well to remove the rust and greased them. (In retrospect, I probably should have used anti-sieze compound.)

I prefer taping them off, taping both sides so I can prime both sides at once..and then finish paint both sides at once.

Back in town from a great weekend camping trip. Hiking. Mountain biking. Relaxing. Pics coming.... This afternoon we put the 1974 C160-8 Cinnamon Horse with the 1977 Mackissic chipper shredder right to work. We made a trailer full of chip mulch for the garden pathways. Trina hauled it down with her 856/66 Military Tribute Tractor "Millie" and 1977 Ohio Steel trailer.

Likewise my heartfelt gratitude to all the brave men and women from this great nation, who have heard the call, and answered it with their lives. Special thoughts of my uncle, who heard that call and was lost in WWII flying the Hump in Burma, MIA.

And Bob isn't getting down on the ground to get that nice interesting camera angle any more. I'm finding that the effects of gravity on my body have increased over the years too.

Though the series 1 has a pressurized lubrication system it was a lower pressure and drip lubrication to the rod bearings was inadequate if the engine was tilted where the oil didn't get to the rods.

This is the engine to transmission drive belt in operation. It is tensioned by the spring loaded idler/tension pulley. The PTO and it's belt is used only to power the mowing deck, the snow blower, and the tiller. It's belt to the mower deck is tensioned by the front mule drive. The PTO to snow blower and tiller belts are tensioned by the tensioning pulleys on those implements.

Just to add a little bit of Big Show flavor to this thread, this is the B-100 that I built from scrap to have at my first WHCC show in 2010. Fifteen years later, here is the same B-100 today. Tires are a little dusty, and the trees in the background are a little bigger (and so is Bob)

I really like that fireplace out in the woods. What is the story on it?
  33. 3 points
If you have 2 holes in the rim for wheel weights take a wooden dowel from the back side and gently tap one then the other. Place a towel or cardboard on the outside for the hub cab to land on or you can catch the cover with you hand while tapping it. Works for me. You are going to have marks on the rim when the caps come off. Down fall for having hubcaps on nice rims.

I have 5 (?) K series 16 HP and one Magnum 16. The HP rating and torque are identical. As Paul says the ignition system is improved on the Magnum engines. These are - IMHO - at or near the best single cylinder engines made. Extremely reliable. Monstrous torque for the size. I'd run a fleet of em. My understanding is that they're also easy to get a couple extra HP wrung out of them.

It is a K-341 with an improved ignition system...no points to adjust corrode etc...

I've driven long frame Wheelhorses from 1967 to 1986 or even into the 1990s. IMHO the pre 1978 sheet metal is the most comfortable, sets the best for me, and is definitely the easiest to work on.

Only question I have in said situations. Who was there first?? The stock car track in Oshkosh was shut down due to noise complaints. When the new fair grounds was built, including the race track there wasn't a house for a mile in any direction. Now the grounds is completely surrounded by houses. Don't build or by next to a race track or air port if you don't want the noise. Don't buy or build next to a farm if you don't want the smell. As far as the cars, gas or electric don't matter too much to me. If they get too fast rules are implemented to slow them down either way. Fire danger with the batteries could be a big deciding factor. Note: Electric cars have no soul.

Are you tellin' me that the headlights and taillights aren't functional? One of the funniest things I remember seeing at a local speedway was a purely street legal compact Powderpuff race with women who did not race in other classes. One of the lads used her turn signals when she was about to pass a slower car.

In my opinion most of the talk about electric vehicle racing is just political correctness and has no organic growth to fill a need. Considering the difficulty firefighters have extinguishing "E"car battery fires and the added weight of battery packs on racecars that are as light as possible I don't think there will be any rush to implement this.

Maybe not. The "word on the street" is that there is No fix at the moment. Seems to be either a machining or metalurgical failure in nature. Gotta get that one first - and gotta pass "life-cycle" testing with the new parts. Then whip up a batch of short blocks (I believe Toyota did the same with the Tundra / Lexus engines - complete engines cost too much.) Then get the recall notice for an appointment... then wait. Glad I do not own one.

Mine was the same ... it was a poke & hope with an over size pin for me. Spindle repairs like that are a son of a gun... nice job.

Not much, but it's on all fours. Still gotta finish the rear wheels. The fronts are likely temporary, but the originals are nasty and will take a while. I got tired of it being on the stand and at least it looks like a tractor a little more now. Haven't even started the sheet metal but I set the hood on for grins...

Axle repaired. Outer axle bearings and seals replaced. Regal red and ready for the shelf...just a backup in case the 10-pinion fails in a worker but wanted to get it done while a had the motivation
