8 pointsI usually use sunrise red. Maybe it’s just me but it seems the last tractor I restored, my C-175 is a bit more orange than my C-161 I restored. I’ve yet to park them side by side. Although I’m happy with the results, I kinda wish the 175 was a shade darker. But it’s done and I’m not painting it again!!

5 pointsOn May 23, we celebrate our favorite sweet and chewy treat on National Taffy Day. Taffy has a long history as one of America’s native sweets. Common lore has it that in the 1880s, a Jersey Shore candy shop got flooded, soaking the shop’s taffy stock with Atlantic salt water. On a lark, the owner sold the candy as “saltwater taffy” and an American delicacy was born! Today it’s sold on boardwalks up and down the Eastern seaboard of the U.S. and has even found its way to landlocked candyshops. National Taffy Day is a day to indulge in the sweet pastime of unwrapping that twisty wax paper and popping a chewy bit of taffy into your mouth. Yum!

4 pointsWoke my pulling tractor up from hibernation. Fired right up and came out to see the light with it's hibernation slippers still on the back. Got the engine good & warm, dropped the front weight bracket off and did an oil change. Also greased & oiled all the moving parts. Did some weight rearranging. Last but not least, put its work boots back on. Ready for duty. Sure like the looks of the 26x12x12's on it.

4 pointsI'm thinking the most likely scenario is: The hi-lo shifter is between gears. If it is the input shat will drive nothing. The hi lo fork gear will between the gears an won't be driving anything. Try shifting between hi and lo. Another possibility it the hi lo fork is bent /broken which is pretty common. If that's the case it has to be torn down. Also there is a key in the main cluster gear that may have broken. Here is a thread with rebuilding the trans and videos.

3 pointsI used Rust-oleum Farm & Implement IH Red on my Raider. Used a 12 dollar Harbor Freight gun with Acetone and Hardener at 40 PSI. Can say all HF spray guns are great, but that one is.. I bought two If them the other one is still in the box. I also painted my truck with that gun the paint was a bit higher around $140 a quart with the thinner and hardener.

3 pointsIn the vein of gaining knowledge by mistakes have you ever loaded a tractor on a trailer not attached to a truck…..I did and I rode it a across a low spot in the driveway for about 8 feet …. No damage to me or the tractor but thats not ever happening again. 😬

3 pointsMy 314-8 has had problems starting which I diagnosed to be the fuel pump. Installed a new OEM Kohler fuel pump, same issue. I then installed an electric fp and it starts right up. I made a cover plate for where the old fp mounted. So far, no issues, although I will be upgrading the fp to a better one than the cheap one I have on there now. Did a quick oil change while I was at it.

2 pointsThe Magnum rectifier will work on the K series. The issue is cooling. K series rectifier are big finned things mounted on the tractor body. The magnum unit is designed to be in the air shroud with lots of air blowing over it. That said I have been running a Magnum style rectifier on my D200 for many years. It is mounted in the hood stand...now there is probably more airflow there than on a C series hoodstand as the engine draws cooling air from the rear .

2 pointsDon, I love the hanging Fords. Been looking for Ford-embossed cans, but they fetch a high price down here. I found one where most of the logo was rusted away for $47.00. Rejected. Found two others with great logos like yours. They were over $150.00 each. Rejected as well. I'll keep looking. Also have several cans like the Toro one, but the graphic are worn too bad to read. I think if I squint I can see what might have been International.

2 pointsI would say your engine is worth $300-$400 if you find a buyer who wants showroom condition. That buyer would likely be doing a restoration vs a ‘spruce up’ which is what most of us do. I have a fully running 14hp with the complete wiring system, gauges and key switch still wired in that I wouldn’t sell for less than $200. Pictures of mine below.

2 pointsPete I just tossed a "mention" on a thread that has some good info. Trina ended up buying a Graco of some sort. Don't recall the model. @squonk. Love that white black hood. As usual, lots of good info in this thread. @8ntruck I remember that article vaguely too. The result was actually pretty reasonable. As with any other painting (or welding or many other skills) it's ALL in the preparation.

2 pointsI did some work building a false wall style paneled feature wall in our bedroom. There was a lighting circuit which was fed from a downstairs fuse box and had provided a light for a now removed staircase. I thought it would be useful to use that feed to power a standard lamp so that we had a bedside switch for it. Wired everything up with no problem. Fitted the boards to the framing, not knowing I had trapped a twin and earth cable between them. I found out when the downstairs fuse board tripped out and would not reset. The RCCB would not reset until I removed a lighting neutral from the bus bar. So it was a neutral to earth fault, I had clearly pierced a cable building the wall. But where? Took a while to find but the trapped cable was the culprit, and a 1mm air nail I had scored a bullseye with on it. Thankfully not too great a chore to free the trapped wire and cut out the damaged section. Just tells you to check and check again with any wiring installation. This is the completed wall ready for finish painting. Bed will sit between the reading spot lights. Sockets are higher than usual to allow bed side units.

2 points@Pullstart Definitely, I was loading my 312 for JCM’s get together last year on a landscaping trailer. I didn’t think the weight of the tractor would affect the trailer that much. my father had to use his truck. Yeah, I was wrong, I got to about the end of the gate onto the deck. Then, the tongue picked up and off I went.

2 pointsMy old house, the driveway was ever so sloped to the road. We had a 16’ trailer on my truck. Grandpa’s? I don’t recall. We borrowed a Tecuchi track loader from the farm he worked at for the weekend to do some digging for a retaining wall project. My brother was the equipment operator, so he was driving it the most. When it came time to load, he inched his way onto the trailer, and it lifted my truck’s rear axle off the ground. They started zooming towards the street. It was not a state highway, but for all intents and purposes might just ad we’ll be. He froze. I screamed at him to drive forward, and fast! Tongue weight matters.

2 pointsI know it’s been a while. Been really busy with school and I’ve been focusing on three wheelers. But I hope to have Reese going soon. I know I said I was doing a 212 but stock tank wouldn’t clear the shifter so I could only use 1st and reverse and not the other two. And I hate messing with original parts because I like trying to keep it how I was. But long story short I now have a nother 5horse Briggs but 1 year newer and it runs good and I already know it’ll fit and work. I will still do a 212 roundy some day.
