7 points4 horses in two weeks. This needs to stop. I sold one already so I have 3 left. Scored this 867 to complete my 67 series and this a commando 8. 867 has the original seat, but i took it off for the ride home. They both run and drive. I was gonna sell the commando but it runs so good I don't know if I can do it Someone buy my raider 12 so i have room for these!

6 pointsYesterday, first time ever, I took off the carb of a tractor and cleaned one. This is my '96 312-8. This past Monday while cutting the lawn it started acting up and I could not keep it running. Tractor is fairly new to me, only put about 3-4 hours on it since I bought it last year. The dirt in the bowl is what came out of the carburator bowl when I took it apart 😳! Runs like a champ again. Thanks to @c-series don for the guidance as to how to do this!

6 pointsI was going to suggest the same. Also, if you have concerns regarding the reliability of the low cost pumps, it’s probably not a good idea to mount it to the engine, which has the potential to “Shake” it to bits!!!

5 pointsBoth correct!!! This is called a Cookie Cutter. It would have normally been used for carpets but vinyl and commercial tiles were also possible. He'd get a scrap from the customer. (He always left pieces behind back then). Cut the "Cookie" out of the scrap. Then cut the Cookie in the existing floor around the cigar/cigarette burn. Cutty pasty easy peasy.

5 pointsthis idea failed on the first hard to pull hub. The internal threads stripped. Harbo Fright purchase. Ended up using an old hub drilled out the thread and welded a nut to the hub. picked up a long grade 8 bolt and it will take all the onions you can give it.

5 pointsYes, it will hook up to the tractor. However as @wallfish says I’d be concerned about the belt rubbing the hood. I honestly don’t know if it would clear, if nothing else it will be damn close!! One way or the other that’s a really nice C-175, you don’t see too many in that condition. I recently restored my C-175 and have a two stage blower on my 417-A. I’ll see if I can take some basic measurements and figure out if it will work.

5 pointsI would be better to mount the electric fuel pump on the frame making it lower than the fuel tank outlet. Electric pumps are good at pushing fuel but they suck at sucking.

4 pointsHere's my experience, I measured the distance from the puller to the hub as in the third pic on the first post all around to ensure I was pulling straight and square to the hub. Even with this, I had to heat with my rosebud torch

4 pointsI personally don't care for prime rib but she just loves it so I just make believe I do. Went out to eat once with the boys and many ordered it. Couple of complaints on it so I told them when I retire I will spring for a big one and have you all over. Best ever. In fact I won't ever order it out. Not a supper club in the world can do do it as well as I do.

4 pointsHeavy plate, heavy nuts welded together and a 7/8" Fine thread bolt with nuts welded to it. The fine thread gives the threads more strength and gives you more pulling power. Think low gear instead of high gear.

4 pointsI've made a few pullers using the same design. About a 12mm plate with the bolt pattern drilled out and the jack bolt hole drilled & tapped in it ( some that I made use a 3/4" nut welded on it for the jack bolt). 3/4" ready rod with a nut welded on one end for the jack bolt. @ebinmaine has one of them. They seem to do a good job and mine has held up well so far. Here is one testimony for a stress test. Hub was soaked down with my favorite penetrating fluid in a can SeaFoam Deep Creep for a few days before any attempt was made to remove it. I have a long bar passed through the mounting bolts to keep the hub from spinning, and a long breaker bar on the jack bolt. The breaker bar was brought out after the impact wrench had failed to make any progress. Extreme pressure on the jack bolt and hitting the inner base of the hub to create vibration for a few hours proved fruitless. I applied as much pressure as I possibly could on the jack bolt, sprayed it down with Deep Creep again and left it sit over night. Next morning I could get another 1/4 turn on the jack bolt, with this spark of hope I went back to tapping on the base of the hub for a bit to create vibration. This gained me another 1/4 turn on the jack bolt, tap some more, another 1/4 turn, etc... This process continued until the hub was only hanging on by about a 1/2" then I was finally able to put the hammer down & just use the jack bolt to pull the hub off.

4 pointsAgreed. Obviously we can't hear what you do. And, all 12-16hp Kohlers have a small whine just from gear mesh. But if it's more whine than what you're used to, the balance gears would be a good place to look. And no sense leaving them in there. I took them out of my Bronco 14. The small increase in vibration just serves to remind me that the grenades no longer live in my engine. Peace of mind goes a long way to smoothing it out...

4 pointsI have fought a fuel problem with my 414-8 for weeks. It started not revving when on throttle-up from mid-throttle. Air filter was good, the Walbro carb only has idle adjustment and high-speed adjuster. I decided to rebuild. Two jets in the kit, plus a clip & a spring for the jets. I would either get no gas, or overflowing through the carb throat, regardless of combination and float setting. Today I put the original jet back & adjusted the float and no more issue with fuel level. I also found the mechanical fuel pump was failing. I went with a cheap electric one, but ordered 2 after reading about their reliability. I ran new fuel line, added a ball valve fuel shut off, and mounted the pump. I drove the tractor from my shop to my shed to fill the gas tank and it ran fine. When I went to drive it back to the shop, it wouldn't run. Fuel pump died! I decided that I would mount it better this time, and I created a better block off plate for the old mechanical fuel pump with a second plate atop it to mount the electric fuel pump. I routed the electric cables back under the dash and connected them there. Everything seems to be running properly now. I'm hoping this pump lasts a little longer than the last.

4 pointsBrought a spare hydro to the shop to go through it to have a spare. Needed to split the case to replace an axle that I've had sitting around waiting on me. Considering going through the pump. It was good when I took it off but it's never been open so I might take a look inside.

3 pointsI've been asked several times in open threads and by PM how we remove stuck hubs. PLEASE POST PICTURES OF YOUR OWN PULLERS. This thread will be used to highlight some info and link other threads that show good examples. Please do "mention" people with good pullers!! First and foremost. DO NOT USE A 2 OR 3 JAW PULLER. This thread is being created specifically to prevent the catastrophic damage and extra time of destroying a good hub. Several key points: PATIENCE IS PARAMOUNT. Your hub took DECADES to rust in place. It will take some time to remove it. HEAT 🔥 is usually necessary. Good quality PENETRATING OIL is necessary. No offense to anyone else but "PB" is proven no better than water. Please stop using it as such and try another brand. I've been thanked by several people over the years for that advice. WD40 Traditional Formula is NOT a penetrating oil. WD Corporation does make a good one though. "Specialist" is on the can. Kroil is likely the best penetrating oil spray on the market. But it's very expensive. I use and recommend the old formula Liquid Wrench or above mentioned WD40 "Specialist" Penetrating Formula. Home shop made penetrating mixes can include: ATF and acetone. 50/50. Melted wax. Here are several threads that show excellent options for DIY pullers: Search words. (ignore). Hub. Hubs. Puller. 3 pointsDon, I’ve used these steel pipe flanges on the front wheels in the past (hard to see in the grainy pic) double stacked. I’ve also hung those same pipe flanges under the frame up front.

3 pointsThanks they were on the Raider 10 I grew up on. Looks like homemade 1" thick plate steel cut with a torch, or plasma cutter. We didn't do that, it came with the tractor when my parents bought it. They are stacked double on both sides.

Years ago over at The Ranger Station is was common form for a regular member to post a thread with a question, the first response would be a continuation of an off-topic conversation from another thread. We'd usually get around to the actual topic by page 2 or 3. At least in this one we discussed the tractor a little bit, and the guys who might know what it was, before getting into fancy tapes, Canadian cultural icons, and misquoting classic political critiques.

3 pointsLove the ideas and entertainment here but @953 nut has a valid point. Your muscle & bone structure is very literally "use it or lose it". How many cans are we shaking? If there's a legitimate reason such as personal physical health or limitation then a mechanical shaker would be a GREAT idea. But otherwise.... keep using your people chassis or it won't be there when you really need it.
